Pretty Sweet (Boys in Makeup Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 979 ratings

Seth
Portland was supposed to be my fresh start, my chance to live for myself. Unfortunately, it’s not working out that way. I stay in the apartment Mom chose and major in finance like she wants. I let bad memories keep me from hooking up. I wouldn’t know the first thing about finding a guy who gets me, who’s okay with my need to be held and feel safe.

When I befriend a worker at the assisted living facility where I volunteer, I don’t expect to get invited to dinner, only to realize her son is Jake, a guy I met through friends last fall. Jake’s not only hot, he’s also sweet, a caretaker, and attracted to me too. Since he’s never been with a guy, and I’m a virgin, we’re setting the pace together, learning what we like, one bone-melting touch at a time.

Jake
My childhood was rocky, with an abusive father and a mother I needed to protect. The first thing I did after high school graduation was get us out of there so we could finally breathe. And start living. For me that means managing the garage I own with my best friend and enjoying the modest house I call my own.

Then Seth enters my life. Our connection is palpable. He’s shy, innocent, and sets my blood on fire. He makes it impossible to ignore my attraction to men. The trust he puts in me is more potent than any desire. I get as much from talking to or holding him as when we let our inhibitions go.

Seth and I fulfill each other’s needs—in and out of the bedroom. But our struggles aren’t easy to shake. With my urge to protect and Seth’s desire to fly, we’ll have to strike the right balance, but when we do, the results will be pretty sweet.

The title of this book could not be any truer. These sweet boys will definitely make you fall in love. Yes, they're sweet, but they're also sexy as heck and sensual but also have their own past and their own battles to fight. Seth, who is Jesse's friend that we met in book one, has been living the life his controlling mom has wanted him to live. From majoring in a study, he hates to the kind of apartment he has and even to the kind of car he drives. She thinks she knows what's best for him, but all she's doing is stifling him and making him feel small when he's anything but. He has so much strength he doesn't know about. He loves makeup and piano and makes people feel pretty. He's also a sexual person but is left scared and in a way traumatized by a bad experience in high school and hasn't found anyone he feels safe with to explore those desires he has with. And that's where Jake comes in. Jake is a caretaker by nature very much due to the chaotic childhood he lived with a drunk and abusive father. He had to grow up way too fast, and he's so used to wanting to protect his mom when he should have been taken care of too. Now, as an adult with his own mechanic business that he runs with his best friend, he still has trouble with his protective nature, especially with those he loves. He's always other people's safe place but doesn't have someone to be that for him. Until he meets Seth. Jake has always known he had some attraction to men, but he never met anyone he wanted to act on it with, so he kept it inside and just hooked up with women. But when his mom befriends a younger man who volunteers at the retirement center she works at and invites him for dinner, he's once again hit with that curiosity and attraction. Seth has a quiet vulnerability to him that sparks Jake's protective nature, but that isn't what attracts him to Seth. The more time they spend together the more obvious it is that the attraction between them is mutual and since Jake has never been with a man and Seth is a virgin they're both kind of on a level playing field in that aspect. They don't rush but instead move at a good pace and get to know each other, and when they do decide to get intimate, it's with consent the whole way through. Jake gives Seth a safe place to be himself and be comfortable and respected, and Seth gives Jake the care of listening ear and safe space he didn't always have before. Together and separately, they both grow and become stronger. It isn't all rainbows as they both have deep-seated issues they know they have to work on, but they communicate, and the love they have for each other is no match for their demons. This was a great book, and I'm really excited to read the last one in the series!

I like each of these authors, separately and together.
Here we get a M/M romance with a sweet guy, Seth, 21, who likes to wear some make-up, and who plays piano at a club, and volunteers at a retirement home, for piano and as a make-up artist, his specialty enjoyment.
Jake, a bit older, is a mechanic, muscled and strong, a protective man who lives with his Mom, after all they have been through. She is a Nurse at the retirement home where Seth volunteers and invites Seth home to dinner.
So, Seth the gay virgin and straight Jake meet at dinner with Jake’s Mom, and it’s a good start.
Terrific talks, playing games and getting to know each other is fun for each man. We learn their insecurities and strengths, the deepest of thoughts, and the developing attraction, too. Seth’s Mom is controlling and unfeeling. Later on it’s first times with a man for Jake, (and Seth) but it’s only Seth that gives him these thrilling new emotions and reactions. GFY.
Jake respects all of Seth ‘s wishes; Seth can be safe with Jake, not afraid like he was with the guy from his past. Each man is exploring for the first time and both are having great sexy times.
We see Seth stretch his wings, as Jake’s Mom does, too. It’s a lovely story of being unafraid, stepping out of your bubble, and grabbing a good thing when you see it.
    ENJOY !

    Seth and Jake

It was sweet seeing Seth come into his own. Such sweet shy guy. Jake was just the guy to make him feel safe and confident in himself. Jake's mom was wonderful. I wasn't so sure about Seth's mom, but in the end, she surprised me. Great story.

Seth and Jake are two young adult men who will steal your heart. Neither is very experienced with the dating scene, and Jake is just beginning to embrace his bisexuality. They start off slowly because Jake has never been with a man before and Seth is a virgin who is insecure and traumatized by a previous experience. These guys are so sweet and honest with each other as they slowly forge a relationship. They communicate their needs openly and are patient and understanding as they learn to be together. This book is a slow burn but it’s filled with sexual tension and heat.
Pretty Sweet is told in dual point of view and written so fluidly, as we’ve come to expect when Riley Hart and Christina Lee team up. There’s rich dialog and heartwarming moments that made me sigh with delight. It is the second book in the Boys in Makeup series, and can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend reading book one, Pretty Perfect, first.

I'm still wrapping my head around this review. I loved loved loved book 1 about Jesse and Dane but more just liked this one. Now don’t get me wrong... this couple is sweet. But in my opinion, there does seem to be a bit of a mismatch with this couple. Jake is twenty-four (I think) but reads older and might be too perfect.....he co-owns a business/a garage, owns a house, is a protector, a giver, and carries a lot of responsibility. He’s very self-less. Seth on the other hand reads very young...he is 21 but developmentally he is more like a teen. He's unsure, doesn't have responsibilities, is still figuring things out, and fighting for independence. I found Seth to be inflexible and thought he was more enamoured with his lense of himself when with Jake rather than with Jake as a person. It was all about what Seth needed and wanted which of course is where Seth is in life but maybe it kept him from being the best match for Jake...and in the end I felt disconnected. This was however well written and smooth reading and sweet so I do recommend to any fans of this amazing author duo.

Really Loved this about Seth and Jake who I thought were fantastic together Seth being Jesse best friend from first book and though they no longer room together still see a lot of each other at the nightclub playground we're Jesse sings and Seth plays piano and he volunteers at a living facility by doing make-up for them and loving it and is friends with bonnie who works there and she invites him to dinner that's how he meets Jake he's her son and you can tell straight away they like each other even though Jake's never been with a man and Seth is still a virgin but that's the start of there friendship at first until it becomes more there feelings change but they take it slow helping each other because of what Jake went through with is dad and Seth what someone did to him he was a bit younger but being together makes them better and makes them stronger so cute together and so hot and lovey dovey thought this was brilliant 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Seth and Jake are just too dang cute! I loved their story, it was so sweet, tender and loving.

Seth has been living under his mother’s thumb, squashing who he truly is to appease and to not be in anyone’s way. After a bad experience with a crush when he was younger he also was made to feel like he was broken and a tease.

After meeting Bonnie, a nurse at a home he volunteered at, she invited him to dinner and introduced him to her son, Jake. They had a cute connection, and with Jake’s protective streak after helping and his mother escaped from his alcoholic father, he instantly wanted to help him with all the things he could. Feeling like Seth needed it.

They both bring out the best in each other, Seth gained so much confidence and stood up for himself more and started doing things he actually wanted for his life. Their exploration of each other physically escalated slowly but so perfectly. Loved them so much!

This book felt forced and contrived. If the 2 authors weren’t so accomplished, I wouldn’t have finished. So, I did read the whole thing but it felt so formulaic and was a bit boring. The 1st book in this series was engaging and fun and so this one fell a bit flat. I’ll still look for the next book in this series, all favoured authors can have an ‘off day’ so to say.... I wish I had liked this one more.
