The Prizefighter's Hart (Headstrong Harts Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 497 ratings

A spinster. A prizefighter. A marriage of convenience. This bout can’t end well.

Plain, prim, and beyond marriageable age, Dorothea Hart is resigned to the life of a spinster aunt. But she yearns for a family of her own, and is hopelessly attracted to the ‘Mighty Oak’—a prizefighter renowned for his prowess—who stirs previously unknown passions in her.

Widower Griffin Oake made his fortune in the ring—but he can’t buy respectability, or a footing in society for his daughter. After a disastrous first marriage, he has no wish to wed again, but is looking to employ a genteel woman to chaperone the rebellious teenager—preferably the plainest, dullest woman in London.

When Dorothea is publicly compromised, she’s pushed into a marriage of convenience with the object of her infatuation. Exiled to the country, with a husband who avoids her, and a stepdaughter determined to defy her, Dorothea’s dream of a loving family seems further away than ever…
and she begins to suspect that Griffin’s first wife’s death was not an accident.

What a fantastic ending to the series about the Hart siblings! Each story has been unique, yet so delicately intertwined, continually adding more in-depth understanding of how they each evolved into the adults we meet in each book. This final story about Dorothea was both heart-rending and enlightening. Thea is the older sister, the quiet one who defers to Dexter, her older brother, helping to groom her younger sister for society and keep house for her brother, thus putting aside her dreams of having her own love, home and children.

Watching her handle taking a wife’s control over her own home after being forced to marrying due to a compromising situation with Griffen, the Mighty Oak prizefighter, was a beautiful thing to watch. (There’s a very intricate and complicated backstory to Griffin and his daughter Rowena.) Suffice to say Thea handles things patiently with kid gloves covering a steel confidence and spine when it comes to the household and Rowena. Griffin is another matter … it takes a crisis to finally make him realize his love and need for Thea. Ms Royal writes an amazing storyline and develops her characters to be very realistic and identifiable. This is a series well worth the time to read.

The story was good. I sorry the Hart family is done. I missed Daddy's romance. But we know it ended happy.

First, I love that Thea was 30 years old. Personally I can relate to a character, who’s older, wiser, and more mature. It’s so frustrating to read stories of heroines who are only 18-19 years old, like I’m sorry I can’t relate that.
I literally have to search and beg for authors to write more spinster romances in comparison to romances about heroines in their first season being matched to a man who’s like 35 >_<.
Second, I definitely can relate to Thea’s feeling of inadequacy and low self-esteem at times due to her being plain and “old”. At times I found myself getting emotional at how she felt about herself but I’m happy she gets a happily ever after in the end. Overall, great book and I hope to read more spinster novels from Ms. Royal.

This is the final book in the Headstrong Harts and I’m sad to see them go! This family has taken root in my heart.
I’m so happy Thea got her happy ending. Emily a master story teller weaves words that paint the pictures of life.

When I started this series and through each book of it - I always wondered who Dorothea would end up with and I am glad she ended up with a hot primal male - Mr Oake !

I loved this chemistry between Griffin and Thea - even though she is a spinster - I loved her emotions and feelings.
A lot of drama, complications and suspense till the end kept me on my toes !

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvellous maelstrom of hidden desires & vulnerabilities!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 3, 2021
Well, WOW! I loved every minute of this heart aching tale. Thea, Griffin and Rowe's bumpy journey to family happiness is one of such potent connection and tender, hesitant, warmth. Cloaked in a thorned tangle of miscommunication, a harrowing secret and a cocktail of vulnerability, dimming hope and torment, I just couldn't help but feel each stumble and hitch of heightened emotion so acutely. I was captivated.
To be honest, I've never felt so connected to a heroine before, goodness knows what that says about me, but her inner strength and resilience in the face of constant disregard, however unintentional, had me shedding copious amounts of tears. I cried and championed each shred of happiness against each heart rendering misunderstanding, that brought these three every minimal degree closer to forming their binding family - one, ultimately so right for each other and so desperately needed - together.  A one in which needed such an injection of warmth, selfworth, understanding and resounding love for who they are, it just kept compelling me to keep reading.
I knew Thea's tale was going to be worth waiting for but I never expected to be blown away by such an undercurrent of passion, stabbing pain and drive for a trio's dreams to come true that I felt I was there right alongside them.
Marvellous, in its vibrant emotionally ensnaring plotline and churning sentiment. Emily Royal has forever cemented her place on my must read pile!!

Book four of the series, a delightful read and possibly my favourite couple and the addition of a teenage daughter for the main male character was a nice touch.
A well written novel with a compelling storyline, well worth the read.

    I really enjoyed this book.
It's a slow journey to know and love each other starting from zero.
I especially loved her, her vulnerability, her emotions and sadness, her bittersweet feelings... so good she gets what she wants in the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series of 4 books. My interest was hooked from the very first one. A glimpse into aspiring to be in and living with the “ton” in regency England. Each story has a different premise, a good storyline and each one has fears and tears taking you on an emotional journey before finally resolving into happiness. The family are all woven throughout all 4 books and you get to catch up on what has happened in their lives. Well done!
