Protecting Phoenix Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 127 ratings

All I have to do is keep him safe... and pretend to be his boyfriend.

Phoenix Breslin needs a bodyguard. I need a job. There's one catch: No one can know he's under my constant protection. So, how to keep that secret? His idea: I pretend to be his boyfriend.

At first I laugh it off. It's a good cover, and it'll explain why I'm with him 24/7. The longer I spend with him, the less of a joke it seems. I can't take my eyes off his lithe physique, or stop thinking about his strong hands and soft lips. He's hot and vulnerable, gorgeous and wild beneath his supernerd exterior... and every time I look at him, I catch him looking first.

After a passionate encounter, we cross a line and it's no longer a charade. I don't know what it is, except that I'm falling for him, and if I want to keep him, I'll have to save his life.

This is my second "bodyguard" book in the past few days. I can say with a great amount of certainty that it will not be my last. I really enjoyed her style and how she kept the mystery of who the person threatening the MC, Phoenix Breslin throughout the book. The bodyguard Jim Myers was an older retired military man. His serious super vigilant perspective contrasted with Phoenix's seemingly complete opposite style.

One was suit & tie while the other was tight jeans and a hoodie. One not really aware of what was going on around him and the other's eyes never stopped scanning. Pretend boyfriend versus hovering protector. Jim had a hard time being one or the other. This was an entertaining story about Opposites Attracting.

When protection leads to passion. Where the threats aren't imaginary. But don't be thrown off by red herrings. A young entrepreneur who wasn't looking, but ended up finding HEA. I'm not sure if Ivy Oliver's other books are held together by a common thread - though it bears repeating I will be reading them. If someone is aware of a particular reading order please let me know in the Comments section. Thank you in advance.

I know the author worked hard writing this book. It's obvious. (Compliment) I liked the story, but I found it predictable. There was a brief moment of mystery. Then it was gone.

I thought Phoenix was a little over the top. James was a bit stiff. (No pun intended) there just wasn't a chemistry that I could feel.

    Sorry.

First, I liked both James/Jim and Phoenix as people and a couple, and the plot kept me interested throughout. I even had a couple of chuckles in the beginning. But frankly, I didn't feel James was a very good bodyguard throughout most of this story. Too many times I thought that's not very professional or that shouldn't have happened. And also James wasn't as dominant as he should have been. Sorry won't be reading any more from this author.

Danger is stalking Phoenix and James is the man that will keep him safe. These two characters are fun, sweet and sexy. I love the bodyguard pretendingbto be a boyfriend theme and how they connect and fall in love for real. The story and characters are well written and plotted. The mystery of who is targeting Phoenix is entertaining and kept me reading.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

The more books I read by Ivy Oliver, the more I like this author's writing style. Ms. Oliver's book, Protecting Phoenix, keeps the readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The two main characters, Phoenix and James, are polar opposites. Add the instantaneous attraction they feel for each other, along with the growing danger that follows them everywhere, and this book becomes a most satisfying experience for the reader. Ivy Oliver's current book, Protecting Phoenix, has hit all five stars.

protecting phoenix is a great nerd/bodyguard story that will pull you in from the first page. phoenix is a computer nerd, one who has made it big at a very early age. now he's running a billion dollar company that is getting bigger every day. the problem is someone has been stalking phoenix, leaving little gifts behind that have him worried. Enter james myers. this job isn't what james expected in more ways than one and he isn't sure what surprises him more, the man he is protecting or the feelings he brings out in james.

there is a lot going on in this book and the author does a great job keeping things moving along while at the same time keeping the readers guessing about what will happen next and who is behind everything. of course it is easy to pin point the main trouble maker but there is still alot going on in this book. i love the characters and the way they come together. i also love the way that phoenix looks out for james as much as james looks out for phoenix. i would love to see these two come back with another story and plan to re-read this book again.

A cute story with a solid plot, fun dialogue, & good character development. So why three stars?

    - Typos. So many typos. When something is published, it should be ready to be published. Whomever is in charge of editing needs to not be doing so.

    - The ending. Super abrupt, like the author was just tired of writing and thought, “Good enough. The end.”

    - Artificially inflating the length of the book for monetary purposes. HUGE pet peeve of mine. The actual book ends at 82%, and the remainder of the book is a book excerpt from a prior release. It’s dishonest and is an unfair practice, and it puts honest authors at a disadvantage.

I like this author, so it makes me sad she’s chosen to do the latter bullet point. But if her next book continues this practice, I won’t support her anymore.
