Psychotic Interlude Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

Toneye, being of sound mind and body, takes no responsibility and makes no excuses for Eyenot's trigger-happy rampage throughout this collection. You will be disturbed, horrified, traumatised even, by the contents of this book. From the opening 'experiment' all the way through to the final flight of poor Brian, making it through unscathed will be an admirable feat indeed.
Psychopaths…Human Monsters – Nobody is immune. Nobody is truly safe.
Enjoy this spiralling descent into your very own PSYCHOTIC INTERLUDE.

This is a collection of horror short stories by Toneye Eyenot. Except for the final installation, the stories are of the incredibly disturbing in the fact that they are based in reality. Each of them could actually happen, which (in my opinion) makes it all the creepier. A lack of supernatural elements brings the fear closer to home. Like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, I had to keep asking myself what would I do in such a situation. Unlike Henry though, the protagonists of these tales are not the villains- which does not make the action any less painful to read.

A collection of superbly twisted, short stories that will caress your deepest darkest imaginary world. Would I recommend this to a mild mannered Horror fan, No but if you do not live in fear, Absolutely.

Brutal little collection of short horror stories. Violent and disgusting and sometimes hilarious, this is one is not for the faint of heart. But if you like your horror extreme (like me), then you won't be disappointed.

(Revised) I admit to being a big Toneye Eyenot fan, from his wonderful Sacred Blade of Profanity dark fantasy series to his horror stories and werewolf tales. He has a unique writing style that ranges from effervescent irreverence to elegant, poetic description, all the time maintaining a fast narrative pace. He can be scathing in his satire and irony, but there is always a tongue-in-cheek gentleness lingering in the background. As you read, you can almost see him giving you a knowing wink. And he can be outrageously funny. His writing is charismatic, speaking to me on a very personal level. In other words, there are a lot of tools in Toneye Eyenot's writing arsenal, and he uses them all well.

Psychotic Interlude is a collection of five stories that focus on psychopathic personalities and pain and suffering. I know of no other writer who can evoke the horrific experiences of a torture victim with more verisimilitude than Toneye Eyenot does. Talk about making the reader feel the pain! That ability comes to the forefront in An Experiment in Fear from the perspective of the victim, and in What's in a Name from the perspective of a revenge-consumed perpetrator. Don't be a C**t relates a savage backlash against society's institutions by a man driven beyond the breaking point by the injustices, hypocrisy, and callous manipulations practiced by those very institutions. An interesting feature of this story is that the narrator is a demon who provokes the violence. Is the demon actually an external entity, or is it a manifestation of the man's internal madness? It's up to we, the readers, to decide.

Petty Pleasantries tells the story of a very conscientious handyman who suffers from major anger management challenges. He is extremely scrupulous about making sure the problems he was called out to fix are professionally repaired. He's less scrupulous about whether his clients are still drawing breath by the time he leaves. Sanity Korpse is the alter ego of Santa Claus that emerges after a prankster slips hallucinogenic drugs into his milk and cookies. This precipitates a particularly nasty psychotic reaction in old Saint Nick in which the purpose of his Christmas visits is transformed from gift giving to life taking. And in the process, the name Christmas is transformed into Stressmas.

The stories are quirky delights, and the book is graced by the eerie, evocative cover art of the multi-talented Mar Garcia-Amorena. All in all, Psychotic Interlude is highly recommended to readers who are not over sensitive about a seasoning of sadistic torture sprinkled in here and there.

Psychotic Interlude left me feeling mentally violated. Of course, I mean that in a most complimentary way. But I am having difficulty finding words beyond that at the moment.

Notation: I received this book as a gift.

Dark gory stuff with a twist of dark humour. Slasher fans will love Toneye's take on the world in this collection of psychotic horrors. Christmas Eve will never seem the same after you've read the last offering. A highly entertaining read.
