Pure Silence (Virtuous Sinners) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 301 ratings

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all…

All Cassidy “Goldie” Nash wanted to do was be a nice guy. He certainly hadn’t meant to turn a corner too fast and knock a stranger down into a muddy puddle, and helping him up seemed like it was the right thing to do. He even gave the strange young man his coat because it was so cold out. Goldie thought it was odd that the man didn’t even say so much as a thank you before fleeing with his headphones firmly planted on his ears, and Goldie would later learn to regret his kindness.

He’d left his wallet in his coat pocket after paying for coffee earlier that morning, and now the silent man knows where he lives.

Goldie didn’t know it then, but speaking was the absolute worst thing he could have done…

Because the silent young man heard him, and he liked it.

Day Hanley was raised with a strict hand and a wildly perverse interpretation of scripture. Those who speak with venom under their lips and use their tongues to deceive must be quieted, and it is his mission to silence them. He hears it everywhere, a constant torrent of profanity and hatred spewing from every mouth that he has to shut out or he’ll go insane.

But Goldie is not like anyone else Day has ever heard before. Goldie speaks as an angel does, and Day has to find out why…

Even if it means he must silence him.

Virtuous Sinners is a collection of gay romance stories that center on killers who are guided by a virtuous code. These dark novels are connected only by theme and can be read standalone.

K.L. “Kat” Hiers is an embalmer, restorative artist, and queer writer. Licensed in both funeral directing and funeral service, they worked in the death industry for nearly a decade. Their first love was always telling stories, and they have been writing for over twenty years, penning their very first book at just eight years old. Publishers generally do not accept manuscripts in Hello Kitty notebooks, however, but they never gave up.

Following the success of their first novel, Cold Hard Cash, they now enjoy writing professionally, focusing on spinning tales of sultry passion, exotic worlds, and emotional journeys. They love attending horror movie conventions and indulging in cosplay of their favorite characters. They live in Zebulon, NC, with their family, including their children, some of whom have paws and a few that only pretend to because they think it’s cute.

It’s no secret that I love K.L. Hiers’ books and this one is no exception. With a creative new twist in creating Day, K.L. Hiers takes readers on an adventure unlike any they’ve experienced before. Don’t expect the average from this story, and check your TWs.Day is mute, deadly, and also adorable. A fascinating combination to be sure. Goldie’s act of kindness puts him directly in Day’s crosshairs… in a very fiery and fun way. Well, maybe not fun at first because… you’ll just have to read it. 10/10 ✨

Ok wow, this was really really good. Super hot! Lots of really spicy scenes. This is the first I’ve read of this series and this author but I’ll be going in for more!

What a strange book. Idk if i loved or hated it. The story line was very good. But the sex scenes felt oddly placed and tended to drag on unnecessarily. I found myself skimming almost all the sex cause I was dying to find out the unfolding or the story line.

    Kinda dub-con
    Dom-sub
    HEA
Duel third person point of view between Goldie and Day
Smaller, younger top with a large older bottom who actually didn't realize he was submissive until Day came around
    Age gap
Heat level and steam 5/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 There was plenty and I'm here for it all!!!
Unaliving people on page. Violence. Day hears the voice of his father telling him to be God' wrath and rid th world of sinners.

Day cannot hear anyone without hearing their sins. But one day he stumbled into Goldie and Goldie's voice is clear from sin or conflict. He likes hearing Goldie. Goldie likes the younger man and instantly offers the young Day his jacket, but his wallet was in there. This is how Day happens into Goldie's life. He forces Goldie to try and accept his mission. Goldie of course is confused, and while being enraptured with Day and his dominance he doesn't understand. Day leads him, Goldie follows.
Their relationship is hot. Even while Day shows Goldie how to come to terms with what he has to do to the sinners.

First let me say I like the cover art…it’s a great depiction of how Day is described. As for the book…it was just weird for me. I don’t know if Day was blessed and on a mission from God, a religious fanatic or just crazy and lucky or a little of all of the above. I was good with him repaying God’s wrath, but some of the other stuff just went a little far…definitely had me leaning more towards the crazy.

I’m giving it 2.5 stars because I liked the God’s wrath angle, I liked Goldie and Day, there was so story outside of the crazy sex, and I loved the pet name “murder muffin”. It’s actually what made me read it, but overall it was just weird and kind of long with some good bits here and there.

Something I’ve been craving in MM is just… something different. Something that’s different from the tropes and stereotypes and OTT drama or just general blandness… and boy was this it.

Minor spoilers here for content warning purposes

This is dark but not really dark in an angsty way. It was just DEPRAVED. Please read the trigger warnings! While I felt their relationship to be pretty fluffy, there is a bit of DubCon throughout. But I can be sensitive to that and within the context of this story it didn’t bother me at all. Also, if you are at all sensitive to heavy religious themes, either because of religious trauma or being religious yourself, don’t read this. One of the MC’s entire personality is bred from extreme religious indoctrination and his entire dialogue is in a scripture-like way, including dirty talk. But it made this story utterly fascinating. There’s lots of murder and sexual depravity but it was so dang hot. I absolutely ate up this book. Hiers is becoming a go-to author for me and I am so enjoying the ride.

Genuinely. I pride myself of finding the strangest dark romances I can find and this one is up there. It’s just so insane and hilarious. I loved it, it’s a good book, but I had to read sentences over to make sure I understood it properly because I couldn’t believe my eyes.

First off, mind the warnings on this one. Murder, violence, sex while murdering, and all that are in here.

    Spoilers ahead

This also has the twink being the Dom/God, the humongous wrestler being the sub, extremely long sex scenes, talking to God and dead dads, drug mobs, and someone who caused a career ending injury.

Ok so in here we have Day, a young man who can hear the bad things you have done/will do. And Goldy, a retired former wrassler, always in pain and not living a good life. These two literally run into each other and thus begins an instant connection.

Goldy, being so huge, has always been the dominant one but as soon as he meets Day, learns he is a sub at heart.

Y'all already know that Day is not normal. He kills people for God and his dad. He also does not speak except for bible verses. That's ok cause Goldy understands him and Day does not hear bad thoughts from Goldy when he speaks.

I'm gonna be honest, this got really good at about 89%. I loved the whole violent things that happened and the twist. I feel bad for the detective though.

But this needed less pages. Some parts dragged on and on. I think if this lost 150 pages, then it could have been a 5 star read.

5.0 out of 5 stars interesting story

I didn’t expect much going into the book and was pleasantly surprised by how well I liked it. Day and Goldie were both very interesting and well rounded characters. The story was engaging and enjoyable for the most parts. (I must admit that the s*x got a bit tedious to read after awhile ) but it was ok and the overall package worked well for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 8, 2022
Goldie and Day, all I can say is what a unique couple. The first thing that comes to mind for me is this book has the element of creepiness to it. That creepiness is in the form of Day. His behaviour is so creepy and odd I would run a mile, so I question Goldie’s sanity more for sticking around in the beginning.

It’s a very unique, psychological coupling which I would not say is not a romance but it has romantic elements. It’s possessiveness but not in the standard “alpha” ways.

They have great chemistry, lots of steamy time and just a really enjoyable plot and story, especially approaching Halloween.
