The Unforgettable Queen of Diamonds (Cartwright Ranch Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

She's dreamed of a career in the spotlight, but now her family's secrets have put her center stage in his undercover FBI investigation.

Kennedy lives in the shadows, but craves something more. Through her work, she makes other singers' dreams come true. With the Summer Concert Series waiting in the wings at Cartwright Ranch, she needs to find a few hot new acts to bring in the crowds. But when Roman, a local music producer, enters her life, for the first time she considers putting her own happiness first. Even if it means the world falls apart around her.

Though he's a field-rated agent, Roman Palermo prefers to stay out of the heat. With a head for numbers, he spends most of his time with his nose in the books, but that's not an option this time. Roman's ability to blend in and become forgettable makes him the perfect agent to go undercover as a local music producer. He's assumed it was his lot in life to pass by without anyone noticing him, that is, until he meets Kennedy. For the first time, someone truly sees him. Problem is, she thinks he's a music producer, and he's worried she's too young.

Neither issue stops the chemistry from igniting, not even once Roman discovers Kennedy is tangled up with the players in his new case. Caught at the center of a brutal storm, Kennedy doesn't realize the danger surrounding her.

Roman faces a decision: Keep her close and risk her safety, or turn her loose and let her fall victim to a trap.

Either way, she's in danger.

This is a clean romantic suspense with no cursing, cheating, or explicit scenes, but still swoony while sweet. No Cliffhangers. PG--13 by movie ratings. Each story in the Cartwright Ranch Series is a standalone story, but it will make more sense read in order.

Nellie is a self-proclaimed country girl from Northern, California, USA. When she’s not writing or reading, she can typically be found baking up a new culinary delight in the kitchen, possibly barefoot while singing show tunes. Sometimes she’s even on key. She grew up around horses and other farm animals and enjoys long conversations with her chickens on her small ranch. Nellie loves kickboxing, dancing and jogging, and all of these tend to weasel into her writing one way or another. She was diagnosed with Mulitple Sclerosis in 2012 and vowed to leave no regrets. She’s a warrior and advocate for research into MS and other auto immune diseases. Nellie feels awareness is equally important. Most evenings are spent as a wife and mother, watching the sunset and dreaming of a character’s next adventure.

I enjoyed the drama with the egotistical boss. Enjoyed the twists and turns as the investigation progresses. I recommend this story for the young adult reader.

This is the 3rd book I’ve read by this author, and I love them all. This was sweet, laugh out loud, curl your toes kinda romance. So good. I can’t recommend this enough. Also that “five ways to get over the island” bit. Fans myself. So good.

The story is suspenseful with an exciting ending. I enjoy the author's writing style (still chuckling over Roman's "party pack"). There was a little too much repetitious angst for my taste, but the ending was good - Kennedy's hypersensitivity about guns was a little annoying, but she has an epiphany & becomes more rational. Meanwhile, Vic & Hudson more than made up for it, lol.

The overarching plot is to-be-continued but the immediate plot with Kennedy & Roman is resolved & the story is moved forward to set up the next installment with Vic.

*Romance level: passionate kisses, there's some unclear degree of physical assault on a kidnapped character implied, but other than someone changing her clothes, the details are kept minimal & left uncertain

I loved this book. I really liked how it has both Roman and Kennedy's voices in the book. You get to see everything from both perspectives. It's easy to fall in love with the characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and learn more about the rest of the family!

Another mystery/love story by Nellie Neves. This book is a fast and compelling read-- the type that keeps you up at night to finish a chapter, or the whole book. It's highly recommended.

Deep, relatable characters in a believable setting, that's a trademark for this author. Towards the end there were some turns of events that had me pull up an eyebrow, but by that time I was so engrossed in the story, I didn't care about realism any more. The story captured me and had me looking forward to returning to it. Fortunately, there's a sequel, so I didn't have to be sad when the book ended.
