Quarter Mile Hearts (An American Muscle Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 528 ratings

Following an accident injuring her dad, twenty-four year old Leigh Storm returns home to the town she was once so desperate to escape.
It is only a matter of hours before she runs into Max 'Manwhore' Morgan. Dark eyed and dangerous to her heart, he is the very last person she wants to see. It might have been four years since she saw him last, but there's no denying the chemistry between them is as potent as ever. Max makes it clear he isn't about to let her run again, even if he is the one thing Leigh vowed to herself she would never date: a street racer.
After racing tore apart her own family and left a path of destruction in its wake, Leigh decided long ago that it is not the life she wants for herself. But when a wager gone wrong threatens her dad's livelihood, Leigh must go against everything she believes in.
This time there's more at stake on the quarter mile than just the family business— she's risking her heart as well.

'Quarter Mile' is what had my attention to this book. Then I read the blurb, and hit that 1-click button quick. The story is filled with sexy, hot guys, cars, and drag racing. What's not to love? Leigh Storm and Max Morgan had amazing chemistry even if she wanted to fight it like hell at first. Mrs. Siegel did very well on her writing and I loved how she potrayed the racing scene in this book. She also did amazing with the background on the cars that are mentioned in this book as well. Overall a very fun and great read.

Leigh Storm has made an emergency trip home after her dad's accident. Hoping to avoid the one person proves to be fruitless as he's one of the first people she runs into after returning to her small home town.
Max Morgan has missed the girl he couldn't get enough of. He's determined to get her attention now.
The storyline for this book is a little different as the heroine rides a Harley and is very much a tomboy. I really liked the characters and how realistic the story is. I also liked the minor characters. The story grabbed me from the first page and was well written.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

A story of two people that misunderstanding and fear of love and relationship drew apart... Now they have a second chance if only they'd fight for them...

"I always knew Max Morgan was dangerous to my heart, and that hasn't changed."

Although the beginning of the story was very promising - you can't get better love story than bad boy, a racer, who falls for a tomboy girl who has never even been kissed till she was 18 - soon it started to get on my nerves that characters clung to their immature games and previous, and wrong, knowledge of the other's character, and especially irritating was Leigh, who can't decide what to do with her life, even though we find out pretty soon she definitely wants Max. So it's a bit confusing. The sex scenes were great, but after some time they've become too repetitive...

The book was simply okay. The story line seemed interesting, but didn't have any real development and the background of characters was pretty bland as well. As I said, the story had potential, but along the way, it lacked something special, something that will make it unique. I stand by my opinion that the characters lacked a bit of strength and decisiveness that would for sure bring some intensity to the story.

Not my favorite, and I wouldn't recommend it if you like angstier, more intense stories; otherwise, it's okay for a weekend read.

When Leigh comes back into town due to her dad getting hurt racing, she knows she wants to avoid max for all its worth. But when she's sees him again the sparks of hate and love are still burning as strong as ever. Will she be able to keep hating that she loves him when he admits his feelings for her or will she keep blaming his manwhorish ways for the hate she feels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable!

    Nicole @ Nic's Novel Idea

I love books where the female protagonist is a bit of a tom boy, I think because I can better identify with those types of characters rather than the groomed and styled high-maintenance type and with Leigh Storm of Quarter Mile Hearts, that's exactly what you get, just with effortless style and a sparky personality. A lover of American muscle cars and an adrenaline junkie for the eye-watering speed of racing, Leigh arrives back to her home-town after a four year absence and right into the drama and chaos of a hospitalised father, a confusing hot shot racer/mechanic and the temptation of illegal street racing.

'I'm going to head out to the hospital and see my dad. You guys okay here?" Max straightens and turns, resting that gorgeous a** of his on the edge of the Chevelle, adopting his usual stance, crossed arms over his chest, t-shirt pulled taut over the obvious muscle underneath. Distracting as hell is what it is.
"Sure you go, we've got it covered." He nods and then his mouth curves up the longer he watches me. "Enjoy your date." He winks and turns, bending over the car and resumes his work.'

Max 'manwhore' Morgan is a sexy complicated enigma, at least in the beginning. He comes across as sarcastic, flirty and pretentious but as the story progresses and he and Leigh get closer and we see a bit of their history together, we're shown a different side to the infamous ladies man. Digging deeper to get to his concealed layer of sweetness, protectiveness and fairly sensible nature, Jenny Siegel manages to portray some great character development without it becoming too clichéd or overused. Leigh too goes through a pretty impressive overhaul. She starts out as a bit closed off and self-contained but with the aid of her cousin, her best friend and Max her personality blossoms, transforming her into a selfless and fearless young woman.

The storyline is pretty sedate, there are no massive overly exaggerated incidents, everything happens in a steady pace with realistic drama and dialogue. It's the characterisation that had me hooked from the beginning with the plot just being an added and well written bonus. You care about what happens to these people, you want them to get better, to rectify their situations and to achieve that happily ever after. No one stays the same, they grow and learn.

It was a great book, one I really enjoyed; there was plenty of romance, suspense and sensuality.

I first read this years and years ago and there’s a reason I keep coming back to it. I think I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read this book now. Leigh and Max are one of my favourite book couples and ugh I want to read it again already!

Storm is like her father a natural behind the wheel of a car but she knows it can cost lives when you race. Max always seems to have a tag team of girls around him and she decides to leave. Four years later she is back and Max is still there.

I love a strong tough female character. And you get that here with Storm. Also, how can you not love Max. While coming off as a tough guy at first, you soon realise he is a teddy bear in love with storm.
Racing is a part of this book, but not so much that it is unenjoyable for those not into it.
The chemistry is seriously hot and the plot keeps you wanting more.

I was really interested in reading a romance about a race car driver. I love cars and racing so I thought it would be a hit.
The story centres on Storm, a girl from a small town obsessed with drag racing. It tore her family apart and now it's landed her dad in hospital. He lost a race that put his business in jeopardy and she's left to pick up the pieces. A crush/enemy from her past is suddenly heavily involved in her life, making her question everything. With the pressure on to return to a sport she hates to love, Storm slowly realises the value of her small town life.
The male lead Max was interesting and nothing like the player you expect. Storm was a bit irritating at times, she left home 4 years ago and felt she could pick holes in everyone's decisions. Her dad is described as this amazing man who would do anything for her but he seems pretty content to let her clean up him mess.
I think the characterisation was a bit weak and they didn't act or respond in line with their described behaviour.
The driving scenes are pretty good but I would have liked a bit more description of the cars (sometimes the colour wasn't even mentioned). Also some scenes jumped from location to location without any explanation. The girls were having a conversation in the car on the way to the diner and midway through one is described as taking a sip of soda. So they must have arrived but it wasn't clear. Little things like that pulled me out of the story which is a shame.
I got this as a free book so it was definitely worth reading as the plot was pretty unique. I'm not sure if I'd try anything else by the author without trying a free sample of the book.
