Rough & Ruthless (Notorious Devils Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 672 ratings

Mary-Ann Lukin has never had it easy. Having survived the torments of abuse for far too long, it's a miracle that life somehow managed to leave her with a little bit of hope—hope of a future filled with happiness.

Max "MadDog" Duhart has lived more than one lifetime, earning the respect he's due as the president of the Original Charter of Notorious Devils. Nevertheless, with life still yet to live, he wants more than the regret that's tarnished his past.

Their connection is instant, though they know they shouldn't act on it—not with more than thirty years between them. Not with their families tied together by the club's brotherhood.

Yet, there's something about the sweet, broken woman that whispers of a fresh start for an old man. And while he may be rough and ruthless, she cannot deny the way she feels when she looks into his haunted blue eyes.

One phone call. One cry for help. One motorcycle ride, and life as they know it is never the same.

Had someone told me that I was going to love, not like, but LOVE, this book, I would have called them crazy. I just could not wrap my head around it at the end of book 3. MadDog is Fury's father, and considering that Fury is old enough to be Mary-Ann's father, I was all kinds of freaked out. Mary-Ann is Sniper's 27-year-old little sister, a mature 27, but 27 nonetheless.

Before I get into the story, I have to say that whoever did the math here, confused the hell out of me. Fury was 35 in book 1. At the end of book 3 we are told that he and Kentlee had been together for 10 years. So that would put Fury at 45 now, right? But then we start book 4 and it says they had been together for 9 years. Fine, I'll take 9. That's gonna make Fury 44. But now we learn that MadDog is 60. And he had Fury when he was 18. That would put Fury at 43. And then later he says that Mary-Ann could not be Fury's daughter unless Fury had her when he was 14. Which would put Fury at 41. For some crazy reason, I obsess over details like these when I read my books. And I hate it when they change throughout the story like that.

But anyway, back to the actual story. I freakin' loved MadDog and Mary-Ann together!!!! I had not seen it coming at all. We already knew that MadDog did not look his age, but he doesn't act his age either if you know what I mean lol. He has known Mary-Ann for a few years now, but has not seen her in a while. He is taken with her charm and maturity. He feels he is old enough to know what he wants and act on it, so he does. He wants Mary-Ann and he takes her. She is not against it at all. Her childhood had been a bad one, worse than what even her brother was aware of, and then she ended up with an abusive boyfriend. Being with MadDog, who was protective and so into her, was like a fresh breath of air for her. They have to deal with the reality of their age difference as well. And the reality is that we live in a society where people are judgemental and seeing a much younger woman with an older man will get people talking, no matter what. I felt like that was a very realistic approach considering the situation. That ends up putting doubts in her head, and she has to work through it. They do get their happy ending, and what a trip to get there!!!

Next up, Torch and Cleo ❤️

Great read. I like that this book was a little taboo and outside the normal relationship type. Old H and much younger h. I liked how alpha Maddog was and how he was portrayed as still youthful and not your typical 60 years old man. Their romance was hot and I like that he claims her right away. He also seeks revenge for all the wrong she's been done in the past. Another great edition to the series!!! I also love how she builds up to her next book and gets you so excited for the next one in the series. I loved that Maddog got his happy ending after his rough life.

I have been waiting for Mad Dog and Mary Anne's story since it was teased in a previous book and Hayley didn't disappoint. Max aka Mad Dog is the charter President of the Notorious Devils, and 60 years old. Mary Anne is the sister of a member of Notorious Devils and 28. She finds herself in an abusive relationship and calls on Max to come rescue her. From that point on the two are nearly inseparable. What happens when Mary Anne's brother finds out? How will they handle the scrutiny and naysayers that say the age difference is too much.
I think this couple may be my new favorite. The steamy moments are hot and while I'm not normally a fan of guys who are much older, the way Max is described, it makes me want him and I totally forget about the age difference.
This book is another great installment in Hayley's Notorious Devils series. Looking forward to Torch's story now!

Young girl, older man, yeah that’s a fantasy I can get behind! MadDog is the president of the original Notorious Devils Motorcycle Club. He has a grown son who is president of the Idaho chapter of the Notorious Devils MC. Mary-Ann is the sister of one of the brothers in Idaho. She’s living in San Diego now and she’s in trouble. Her brother gave her MadDog’s phone number just in case she ever needed anything; well she needs something, out. MadDog is thirty years older than Mary-Ann but the attraction is immediate.

I enjoyed this story. I like the protective nature of the May/December relationship and the sex was hot. I enjoy this series and look forward to reading more from these notorious boys. 4 stars, 3 hands down the pants

I love the Notorious Devils MC but MD is my favorite. When my hubby was in the Navy, he was nicknamed Mad Dog so I have a special place in my heart for the name even tho my man earned that name because he was a crazy and wild driver of drunken sailors from the bars of Guam back to their bunks on the sub. All that to say, even Max's road name drew me into the story. What I appreciate about Haley's writing style is the characters feel so real..I like that rather than having these tough bikers act and think like girls or be really cruel, her MC boys are right where they should be. I encourage all to start with Book one of this series and then, read, read and read. You won't regret it.

Max is 100% Ruthless when it comes to protecting his Old woman and family.
I can definitely see how their romance evolved, Mary falls completely.

Loved this so much! It gripped me from the first word to the very last full stop! The bonus novella was a lovely surprise and as usual you are left wanting so much more . Max delivered above expectations and after a few missteps Mary-Anne figured it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars I’m sounding like a broken record with my reviews on this series…

Obviously these books are MC books, with violence and illegal behaviour.

If you’re wanting a sweet and gentle MMC then scroll on by. These books are based on toxic relationships and toxic men. The FMC are sometimes doormats and sometimes not. All the characters behave one way one minute, and then another way the next, it’s filled with contradictions. This book had a more palatable MMC though.

Now ask me why I can’t stop reading them lol…..I don’t know!! Each book just drags me back me in. The characters are all so toxic and I’ve had issues with each book so far…I’m shaking my own head at myself right now! I think it’s the writing style, the words just flow in a way that makes it easy to read and grabs my complete attention. The pace of the stories is fast and It doesn’t pull any punches.
    I just.. Can’t. Stop. Reading. 😆

I really enjoyed this book. I'd forgotten that I'd already read the first one in this series. It was good to catch up with everyone even though Max really frustrated me at times. I loved the excerpts from the next books in the back of this book too.

I have read the first 4 books and it is the same story, just rearranged. She is slim, very sub. He is older and dominant. Add the family/Friend do not like the union. Add a bit of outside drama. it is mostly of all sex, lots and lots of sex. What disappoint me is that the writing is good, and the outside drama could be developed a lot more and make it interesting. It made me wonder if the books where A1. I really hope not.
