Rock-A-Bye Baby (A Charlene Taylor Mystery Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 103 ratings

An aunt’s worst nightmare…

In the city of Denver, a series of baby kidnappings has the town devastated. With no ransom demands and no contact from the perpetrators, local law enforcement is at a dead end. No motive equals no answers.

A cop’s personal obsession…

Charlene Taylor’s niece becomes a victim, and the LAPD detective is thrown headfirst into a whirlwind case with similarities to one from seven years earlier. Out of her jurisdiction, and with no friends or leads, Charlene must walk-the-line between cop and sister.

Who can she trust?

Charlene has to decide who’s an ally, and when an unlikely partner steps forward, they must race against the clock: because that critical 48 hour window has come and gone.

I've just finished Luke Murphy's book Rock-A-Bye Baby.  If possible, it was even better than Kiss&Tell.  This book had many twists and kept me guessing until the end.  I thought I had it figured out, but of course I didn't.  I love the main character, Charlene Taylor, and hope to see more of her, Agent Matt Stone and Agent Smith.  Seems there's some unfinished business between Charlene and Matt, can I hope there's a sequel in the works?  I've already purchased Mr. Murphy's Dead Man's Hand and Wild Card and can't wait to get started.  Mr. Murphy is a very talented writer, and anyone who enjoys crime drama/mysteries will love his books.

Although this is sort of a sequel, reading the first book(Kiss and Tell) was helpful but not necessary. There was just enough background in “Rock-A-Bye Baby” on Charlene and her past case to familiarize a new reader, but not too much as to bore a returning reader like me. This story moved and pulled me in, and had twists and turns that had me trying to figure it out before the police and the FBI did. I had to keep reading late into the night as I kept changing my mind trying to figure it out. The main character, Charlene Taylor, shows a different side in this story--her fierce family side. The author's attention to detail reminds me of a Louis Penny book—intricate plot weaving with lots of little details coming together at the end. Very well written, Mr. Luke Murphy. I totally enjoyed it.

This is deeply personal for Charlene Taylor. There are baby snatchers and one is her newborn niece Martina. While taking a break from her LAPD job, Charlene goes to see her sister- and brother-in-law in Denver. This is where things fall apart. Charlene can't let anything go, it's not in her nature. She is a perfectionist, and she teams up with FBI agent Matt Stone, with the behavioral unit. This is a fast-paced, psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.

This is my favorite of his four books. The book works so well as a whole—plot, characters, setting, methods of resolution. The plot will keep you reading and trying to anticipate the ending. The characters are drawn in depth and Charlene Taylor feels like a real person. She’s a competent, tough police officer, but her family relations round her out in this book. I hope to see some of the new characters (Matt and Agent Smith) in future books. Get to work on the next book, please, Mr. Murphy.

Once again, Luke Murphy has written a book that leaves you guessing until the end. There are some subtle things that I believe he intentionally leads you to figure out on your own, but there is always a surprise at the end that you can't believe you didn't see coming. Any fans of crime novels should add Luke Murphy's books to their list of must reads. He has a way of setting each scene that makes you feel as though you are right there with the characters, and the story flow keeps you excited to see what's on the next page!

Another great book by Luke Murphy. Love the characters and the story line. As a mom I wasn't sure I'd be able to read this book given the plot but he wrote it in a way that I was able to enjoy it & my focus was on solving the mystery. Looking forward to the next Charlene Taylor book, hopefully Matt will be back!

Such a great read. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed but just...Wow! So many emotions ran over me throughout the story. Was exciting, fast paced and kept me on edge. I didn't want to put it down. I just had to finish. I seem to always want more when I'm done with a L. Murphy book. Luckily, I have a few more of his books to read! 5 stars for me.

This is a book I had been really looking forward to reading. I had read all three of the previous books, and had trouble putting each of them down. Rock-A-Bye Baby definitely didn’t disappoint! In my opinion, this is the author’s best work to date.
The story hooks you immediately, and then the characters pull you in even further. This is one of those rare books where the writing makes you feel part of the story. You can’t wait to see what happens next, but at the same time, you don’t want the experience to end. Do yourself a favour, pick up a copy of Rock-A-Bye Baby today, and then clear your schedule. You’ll be glad you did.

A superb follow up to Kiss and Tell. Darker and more emotionally intense with a perfect twist. I can't wait to see where the next books take us.
