About the author

Lynn Van Dorn was born in Ohio and left it for the wilds of Chicago in her reckless youth. She wanted to become a fairy princess when she grew up, but since there are few openings for that position, she makes do with being a writer.
In her spare time, she drinks entirely too much tea, snugs her cats, fills her house with flamingos, loves her husband and son, reads voraciously, and avoids housework. She loves to watch anime, travel, knit, bake cookies, and conjure up happy every afters for handsome men who have trouble getting there on their own.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2022This was a great read that takes you all over the place as a reader. When I says all the feels, I mean it even more for this one. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I fanned myself at the heat. There were ominous moments that kept me tense because you just knew things had happened and were afraid of how bad it had been for both Brett and Tony. It was so easy to invest in these characters and their story and want the best for their relationship. They do get a happily ever after, but it's a mess getting there and that makes it feel real and their story really seems like it will continue until they're old and hopefully die, happily, together.
That said, the story isn't perfect. It's very well written without any grammar issues that caught my eye, but it deals with heavy issues. The hate attacks Brett suffered were horrible, but thankfully not overemphasized or dwelt on. I kept reading through this waiting for Devon to get his comeuppance and that ended up being quite a letdown for me because I wanted something MORE than what happened. The idea that he stays a cop is unacceptable to me, but maybe more will happen in the sequel to address that. As for Tony, my heart broke for him so many times. That he never realized the imbalance of his relationship with Greg and that his loved ones never saw it was crushing to me. He really was 33 going on 19 and that's because a person in a position of power found Tony when he was vulnerable and made him dependent upon them. Not letting Tony get a job outside the home or finish college then molding him into what Greg wanted without even letting Tony think about what he wanted or needed because Greg loved him and was taking care of him. I appreciate the author pointing out this form of abuse and the damage it does when the controlling partner leaves or dies. The way that Tony was suddenly left adrift and unprepared to deal with life is so common with women, but rarely seen or considered with men. It's a negative consequence of being "kept" that no one thinks of until their keeper decides to end the fantasy or harsh reality, like Greg's sudden death, shatters everything. I think that was all handled very well by the author and it struck a very personal chord with me.
Finally, I have to point out a trope that I LOATHE being using in a way that I liked here. The horrid ex trope, be that ex a male or female, is something that I will rip to shreds in my reviews of stories that often only get 1 star. I hate that trope more each time I find myself reading it. Jacob, though, was definitely written with the plan for him to have his own story, because he was a bit annoying, but redeemable and the second he popped back up toward the end of the story, I knew he'd be perfect for Levi. Plus he never tried to make trouble for Brett and Tony, so the trope wasn't used in the ways that I hate. Plus, his reappearance brought Maxie into the story and I immediately started cheering for Maxie to go do his worst with Devon. Again, that bit was disappointing, but I remain hopeful that more will happen in the next installment.
That all said, this was a great and engrossing read for me. So many of the characters resonated with me. So many of them were memorable and left a mark, like the flamingos Armand and Betty - I went through so many tissues over that storyline alone. It was a richly developed world that I was drawn into here. So much more than just a second chance romance between Brett and Tony and I really loved that.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2018Reunion was a nice longer read with lots of facets that kept me on a bit of an emotional roller coaster. I will firstly say that overall I did enjoy the story. I know sometimes when I try and be fair and fully express my thoughts, the negative seeming stuff may shine through a bit more than the positive, so I want to make it clear that I did in fact enjoy the story before getting into everything. I feel this author really has some writing talent. The book has humor, character layers, flaws and depth, and despite the mechanism used for both their initial separation and then their climactic hurdle to overcome to achieve an HEA, I understood, rooted for, and enjoyed them and their story. I am not usually a fan of gross misunderstandings, and/or lack of communication as what either initially causes the first separation or is the cause of the issue they have to ultimately overcome for their HEA. At first I was a little leary when I saw that that was the case in this story. It kind of taints my view of things a bit when I don't know the source of the problem and it's obvious that neither do they really because no one will talk about anything. It can be very frustrating for me. However, talking did finally happen and while getting to know the characters and then seeing how things were finally revealed and the where's and why's of everything I thought that the author did a good job of mollifying me. Unfortunately the same scenario happened again, lack of talking/misunderstanding, to jeopardize their final HEA and I was a little put out by it but it all ended well and I was still #team Brettony haha :D So here's the thing. Brett and Tony are both very layered and flawed individuals and that is what made this story work, why it made sense and why I was ultimately ok with it and actually really enjoyed and was impressed by it. I very much appreciated the humor in the story. I would have liked to have seen more of it in the couple's interactions, but Brett with his sister was hysterical, and the two feathered inhabitants of the town were a riot along with some other humorous elements and a great supporting cast that kept the story from being too heady and a downer. Brett and Tony both could use some counseling. The dichotomy of character traits within each of them was actually interesting though. They both are incredibly, terribly insecure, and all of it is explained satisfactorily even if I still think they should speak to someone, but despite that deep internal insecurity and lack of trust and self worth they have for themselves, they also have this cool take charge almost alphaness to them too. I don't know. Although frustrating at times I just really liked that they weren't these completely sweet, lovable, well put together guys who only made me feel happy feels or sadness because of the situations they were in. I felt all kinds of emotions for them and that is a more rounded, fleshed out, realistic experience for me. They were frustrating, sad, understandable, sweet, sexy, funny, three dimensional. So yes, I got annoyed, but I also laughed. I rolled my eyes and said "really??" but I also went "aww I get it, I'm sorry for you". I said, "guys you need to talk not have sex", but then I said "holy hotness, don't stop!" I thought, boy they should really talk to someone professional, but then they talked to each other and I knew they were going to be ok and they were really really very good for each other. So yes, I enjoyed this read and Yes, I look forward to more in this series and reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Sexy, Serious Depth
Both MCs have their issues. Tony’s fiancé died and he was floundering. Brett, though a successful doctor, is mostly drifting through life. These 2 were head over heels in love as teens, planning their future but expectedly yanked apart in a way that left them with deep scars where the other was concerned. They meet up again and there is some serious high heat, but they both screw up mostly from poor communication. Background is well done, gives them both depth and perspective. Supporting characters add to the story but don’t dominate. Easy read, hard to put down. Really enjoyed it and moving on to the next in the series. And will look for more by this author. Happy to have discovered her via a free story give away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely steamy is an understatement!
Lynn Van Dorn is a new find for me and I am slowly but surely making my way through all of her books.
I loved Reunion. First off, let’s talk about that cover – the model may not look exactly like my image of Brett, but my goodness, he is a very fine representation of just why Tony is obsessed with him!
On to the story. I can be a little iffy about stories that revolve around a misunderstanding – the ones where if the MCs would just sit down and talk like two grown ups, things could be sorted out quickly. So I wondered how it was going to be handled. And I felt that it was handled really well. The circumstances behind how Brett and Tony broke up were heart-breaking on both sides and it was easy to see why neither of them were able to just call the other and sort things out.
I liked how they were both honest about their attraction to each other – extremely honest – and the sex scenes were really steamy, plentiful and fun to read. The fact that they began to fall in love again – that they could slowly work their way through what had happened in the past – was handled well. I also really enjoyed the fact that their blinkers on what they could have together were realistic – Brett didn’t suddenly become perfect just because he understood more of Tony’s life and how Greg treated him; Tony didn’t instantly become 100% confident in himself just because of the love of a good man.
They had to fight for their relationship – sometimes each other – and I really enjoyed that aspect of things a lot.
The backing characters were awesome – for some reason, the books I have been reading lately have had some stellar sibling relationships and I totally appreciate it! And as for Jacob and Maxie! I cannot wait to get into their stories – Maxie in particular!
It’s difficult for me to fully immerse myself in the small town aspect of things as I have zero experience of it, but it was made so clear how people can be shoved into slots and expected to stay in their lane, and I particularly adored Maxie’s role in exploding that whole thing with Devon.
Absolutely loved this book!

Brett & Tony we’re so in love, but tragedy struck & hearts were broken. This story has so much emotion in it & following these fantastic men while they reconnect & relive & work through the past hurts to try & get closure is an amazing read. I loved the ending too. I can’t wait to read more about the people in Oleander.
