All the Feels
First let me say if you haven't read any of the previous Dark + Dirty Sinners books stop and do that first. Things will make more sense as the series is written to be read together! Now that I said that piece I'll tell you I've been dying for Rex's story pretty much since I started the series and it's SO.GOOD. It's definitely a heavy book, lots of emotion and tough subjects and ALL THE FEELS. When I first heard it was going to be a duet with Rachel I was unsure how I felt knowing it wouldn't be a complete story. BUT our gal never let's us down and this doesn't disappoint. Their story is so beautifully written. Full disclosure I wanted to chuck my kindle but because it's precious I didn't. I may have mentally pictured chucking it at the wall though 😉😆 I received an advanced reader copy for my honest opinion and review.

This is NOT A STAND-ALONE! It is the first part of a duet telling Rex’s (aka King) and Rachel’s story. Even if it wasn’t part of a duet, I still wouldn’t consider this to be a stand-alone read, as it is the last two stories of the Dark and Dirty Sinners’ MC series and it is part of the Five Points universe. There are multiple reoccurring characters, past, concurrent and consecutive timelines, and overlapping themes all over the place. Therefore, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend that these be read in Serena Akeroyd’s recommended reading order.

** Caution: The series contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some. High-level examples are listed below. **

If you have not read this story, or any of the previous stories in the series universe, then the following may also contain spoilers.

I have been looking forward to, and dreading in almost equal measure, the release of Rex and Rachel, because it means the end to this series. I know they will still be popping in and out of some of the other stories, but it just won’t be the same. That being said, this is an emotional story, made even more so because I went back and re-read the entire series to date.

We finally learn more about why Rachel is a witch (sub another word as needed), masquerading as an ice queen. The relationship between the two of them is different than any I have read before and not sure why some of this couldn’t have been handled earlier in the series, so more growth could have been realized with the most important figures in the MC.

Part of what I enjoy the most with Serena and this series is how it is written with multiple POVs per story, so that the story is built organically, scene by scene, and I for one feel like I get to know the characters more in-depth. I know this is a point of contention for some, but it makes it more realistic for me.

That being said though, there is no way an alpha male, Prez of a 1%er MC, with anger management issues is going to let everything sit stagnant for 20 years. I don’t care if it was because of fear of irrevocably breaking something or someone, just wouldn’t happen. This almost demanded that I lower the rating, but I am going to reserve judgment on this until I have read the second part of the story.

Otherwise, I am looking forward to how some of these storylines are wrapped and then transitioned into the Five Points universe.

There are some grammatical issues, but they are minimal, as I have come to expect with Serena’s stories. The biggest issue I have is with some of the terminology / colloquialisms used, as they do not fit in with the US readers’ lexicon or this genre. I uploaded my comments to goodreads for anyone interested. I share these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

⛔️ The interwoven SERIES contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including, but not limited to: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, (play) spanking for pleasure, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, alcoholism, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, rape, attempted rape, stalking, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use, drug addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, etc.

This is one of the last two of many other books in the Dark and Dirty Sinners series, so if you haven't read any of this series go and start on Nyx* so you can fall in love with him and Guilia before you revisit them and get another glimpse of their life and the continuation of their story in Rex.

Rex is the latest and last bachelor on the council of Sinners MC finally get the heart of his soulmate Rachel. After 20 years of life giving them both hell on earth, life is starting to turn around...at least in their relationship. I am so ecstatic for both them finally to get their HEA, because it’s about fecking time. Cannot wait for the next and last book of the series called Rachel and the second and last part of this relationship and the series, though knowing Serena, she will bring them back in another series or even have a reunion book for fan service.

Serena is an absolute gem; her writing is a balm to the everyday life women lead and her world building and character writing are genius. I want to become friends with each and every character she brings to life-if I was a part of their world that is. She is the crossover and fan service Queen who serves them up with style and class. I am looking forward to so many more of her new creations this year. And I am so happy to hear about her collaboration with Cassandra Robbins on their Filthy Disciple that is coming out next year.

*…or you can start from the very beginning of the major story arc with All Sinners No Saints which features characters which show up later in this universe of Irish Mob (Filthy Feckers series) and the Sicilian mafia who aim to take over the Italian mob (Valentini Series) again and are mentioned in Rachel.
Many of Serena's collection have crossovers in some form or another. One of the ladies from the Irish Mob in her leisure time mentions she's reading a certain romance book that I was pleasantly surprised was written in real life by Serena...the aforementioned book is part of the Quintessence Collection (Quints), in that universe you will find the Quints rolls naturally into the Veronia Collection and there's a new Next Generation series as well.

If you sign up for Serena's newsletter you will get deleted scenes, free books which are unavailable elsewhere, book suggestions from other authors, any special discount offers that happen anytime during the year for Serena's and other authors' books, and announcements about any newly published books.

We finally get Rex and Rachel’s story! They’ve been dancing around each other for 20 years and we find out why they aren’t together. Rachel suffered past abuses that forever changed her and their trajectory as a couple.

I love that we get to see Rachel’s “softer” side and her perspective in things. She’s portrayed as an ice queen in all of the other books, but it’s really a front she puts on to protect herself. I don’t want to give too much away about what Rex is doing in the story, but they spent the book mostly apart from each other. The book does end on a cliffhanger as well.

This may be incoherent because my mind is completely blown by the whole of this book but most definitely by that ending. WOW.
Serena has definitely become the Queen of Cliffhangers for me… 4…FOUR twists dropped on me! Oh how am I meant to function after reading this book?!

Throughout this series and even more in Storm, I completely fell for Rex, making him my Sinner Husband. His book, just compounds that for me, he is everything I knew he would be and yet so much more. He’s the kind of guy, us romantics dream of with the right amount of possessiveness, the devotion, the loyalty, and most of all, the way he supports rather than barricades his way into your business. He’s perfect.
Rachel is by far one of my favourite FMCs’ now. The heartbreak, the trauma that’s still very real to her even in this book broke my heart. She’s a survivor of a different kind, even with her cracks, she’s stronger for them and carries on with a strength that makes you admire and love her. Out of all the Posse, if there was every any of them that deserves their own book, it is Rachel. I’m so unbelievably happy that she’s getting that and I’m just made up to see more of Rex and the others in the Sinners family.

I loved getting to see POV’s from quite a few of the other characters in previous books… it’s just made the book that much more special.
Guilia. Reading hers and Nyx’s story, and all the other books we know how feisty she is but this book made me love her even more. She is everything, from caring to downright hilarious in this book. Rex has made me soften to characters that were nowhere near my favourites and yet has left me more excited for their books in this same universe.

Honestly, if you’re looking at this book or reading this review then you need to download it now… you won’t regret it. It’s become one of my most favourite books. I can’t wait for Rachel!
    Absolutely phenomenal!

I’ve read and enjoyed all of Serena’s books of the Five Points and Sinner’s MC to date. But I found this book especially poignant. Not sure if Serena works the plots of her stories so far in advance (a gargantuan task I’m sure) but it seems to me that the back stories and current story plot lines that have affected all the Old Ladies of the Posse come together in the first Posse meeting Rachael attends. Serena’s insight, writing and word choices touched my heart, although I’ve personally never endured anything of the sort. Their conversation inspired me to think how this related to the women I know who have endured and survived such heinous acts, to admire their strength and resilience in the face of such horrors. Thank you Serena, please continue writing suchamazing

Of all the books in the 5 points Universe, I think this one is my absolute favorite. Because I had glimpses of Rex and Rachel in all the previous books, I thought I knew them. I thought I didn't like Rachel, and I was so wrong !
Their story is, for me, the most emotional. Their mutual love through the years, their struggles, their family ties, everything spoke to me.
    A fabulous read
