The stories of Riding With Warriors is an ongoing saga. The first tale will be what happens to Alice Bennett, and why she leaves the wagon train. It will have her willing to risk her life to escape and try and make it on her own. Finding an abandoned and somewhat rundown cabin, at least she will have shelter. Alice doesn’t know that Henry was a friend of the Chochmi, and taught them his language to aid them in dealing with white settlers as they traveled the lands. Time is of the essence to take shelter for the night and reassess her options in the light of morning. Why does she feel like she is being watched?

Mahpee is shocked to see a pale face leave the wagon train in a hurry and worries others will follow. What a shock to discover it isn’t a man, but a woman, and while he should stay and make sure this group of travelers leaves tomorrow, he is drawn to this woman. He will follow her, watch her find Henry’s home, and make camp for the night. He will watch over her and keep her safe—even if she isn’t aware he is there.

This saga plot is intriguing, and I love the chemistry that comes about between Brave Flower, as Mahpee has named Alice. Before he makes himself known to her, he returns to his village and confronts his two best friends, Yas and Hinto. When Mahpee makes himself known to Alice, she has a gun pointed at his chest, but he remains calm, presenting her with a flower. When he helps her, bringing her fresh berries and fishing to feed her, he gains her trust.

The story is a beautiful romance of a strong but frightened Alice meeting a Chochmi Warrior, and he shows her he is her friend, there to help her, lend his strength and protection.

“I said I would care for you, and I will. I do not wish for you to ever get one scratch or bruise or moment of pain, hunger or sorrow.”

The trust that Mahpee and Brave Flower share is full of adventures, new experiences, and eventually erotic passion, and they become lovers. I am hooked on this new series and look forward to reading more and see where this erotic tale of two cultures will lead us.

“I fear…” He pulled their joined hands to his chest, tugging her close again. “You are stealing my heart.”

I love how diverse Ms Harlem is with her writing and her books. While she writes predominantly in the erotic romance genre, her books run the gamut in terms of topic and settings from contemporary to sci-fi to historical. This takes uniqueness to another level as Ms Harlem tackles a historical romance set amidst the Wild West and Native Americans. I have always loved Native American stories and have read many of them when I was growing up. Not as many recently since it doesn't seem to be a popular topic. I admire Ms Harlem for tackling what could be a controversial setting and doing it with respect and grace. Throw in this being a reverse harem story and it's about as diverse as it's going to get.

This is a beautiful introduction to Alice's story with Mahpee, Hinto, and Yas. The focus is predominantly on Alice as she finds her way after escaping her wagon train and an evil man, and her encounter with the Chochmi people in the form of Mahpee. I love how Ms Harlem slowly builds the relationship between the two of them as they learn and understand each others' cultures. Their interactions are handled with charm and care as they overcome a little of their cultural and language barriers.

I love Mahpee. He's such a sweet and gentle man. Of course, he's also a strong and fearsome warrior, but with Alice he's kind and careful. I love how he treats Alice and how he gains her trust through considerate gestures and thoughtful words. He does such a wonderful job of explaining his culture to her and how together they work on understanding their differences. Ultimately, they are just a man and a woman and their differences are less significant than their similarities.

Alice is lovely. She's lost and alone in the wilderness as well as frightened. Fear of the unknown and the wild, fear of the evil man who might come looking for her and do her harm. But she's also brave and bold, and she's willing to do what it takes to survive. She's a little wary to start but slowly learns that Mahpee means her no harm and she can trust him. I love watching her bloom under his care and willingly putting herself into his hands knowing he would protect her and do what's best for her. She's also not afraid to take what she desires.

We don't see much of Hinto and Yas in this installment of the series but hopefully will get to know them better in subsequent books. I'm enjoying this series and looking forward to seeing what life and adventures are in store for Alice and her men.

I came here looking for a Native American story with no other requirements, but was not sure it would fit the bill with a main female character that was not Native. Turns out, that didn't matter at all.

Mahpee is everything I was hoping for: wheat I wanted more than anything was to find a story that brought forth Native American culture and life, which Mahpee does. Everything about his character hones in on the beauties of this culture, if not all of them (yet, hopefully). I cannot wait to see how things progress further.

Alice is fairly well rounded character as well. Decent backstory, seemingly well developed, and overall a fully fleshed character. She has strength to her, but her reactions to her situation are generally believable, fearful but resilient.

I'm looking forward to continuing the story.

Its been a long time since I've read an Old West pioneer kind of book. It is refreshing. Alice is on a wagon train headed west with her ailing mother when the story starts. The full background quickly reveals itself as events occur to expedite Alice's departure from the bully who killed her father. Scared, alone and grief-stricken, Alice tries to find a safe place until she can resume her travels. She encounters an Indian Warrior Mahpee, who takes an instant interest in a pale-face Alice. Their love story begins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sweet story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 27, 2022
I loved this book, it's so sensitively done. It's sweet but sexy all at the same time. Her mother dies and the leader of her group is making advances towards her. Warned by this she leaves quietly and quickly. She finds an old cabin and little does she know mahpee is watching her. Mahpee, uncertain of what's happening, is drawn to the white woman. He makes himself known eventually, after explaining to his two brothers who he's found. Then the story builds with both building trust and friendship leading to more. I found as an English woman, I am completely oblivious to how native Americans lived and live. Its a great experience reading( especially in a romance book) how native Americans and early settlers survived and thrived. This is considerately done, showing the difference and similarities between both cultures. I felt her fear and his warmth. He's done so well that when she talks about gold and being rich, I flinch due to thinking 'ah you won't need that, you have him' II loved it and will continue to read the other books.

It's a disgrace. The story only goes up to the part where Alice meets Mahpee the warrior and then stops. Twelve chapters! You have to buy the next two books for the story to continue. In other books this would only be the opening chapters. What a con, obviously done for greed. Well...I will never find out the middle or end of the story as I will never be blackmailed like this. There are other and better authors who can fill ONE whole book with a story.
