- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2020I like how the story progresses. Not just from each persons perspective but the story flow itself. A lot of heart, emotions, feelings. Its like taking a hike through the forest, or horseback riding on a leisure trail, the laidback smooth flow of the story is relaxing and calm. I like this mellow change in reading. As Alice becomes more involved in Mahpee, Bingo and Yas's native world, she's learning more survival skills and new experiences. The Chomchi braves have developed feelings and an attachment to Alice whom they have named Brave Flower. The adventure continues as we the readers know what plans our braves have in store for their Alice. Their intention to make her their wife, with the priority being her safety and health. Beautiful story
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2020I really like this story. This is Part Two of the Riding With Warriors book, and should be read after Part One. So far, Alice's journey has been full of romance, adventure, and excitement. I enjoy learning more about Alice, Mahpee, Hinto, and Yas. The Chochmi people are my kind of (fantasy) people. I love how this blend of cultures shows that love (and romance) is universal and timeless.
My favorite thing about Alice is how she is becoming stronger and embracing her new friends' ways. My favorite thing about Mahpee is how sweet and romantic he is with Alice, aka Brave Flower. One of his best friends, Hinto, is also romantic, however he takes a while to warm up to Alice. I'm intrigued by Yas, and I'm looking forward to reading about his part in Alice's future.
Having said that, I noticed a little historical inaccuracy in Part One, and I thought the author was just trying to create a fantastic, slightly history-inspired romance. Then in this second installment, there were several things that gave me pause. While the story is set in the American plains, there is mention of a mountain that happens to share its name with a town in Alaska (which is very far away from the American Midwest). Also, there is a totem pole in the Chochmi village. Totem poles are found in Native American towns on the Northwest coast. These are just two things that stood out to me as out of place. There is also the unfortunate use of the word "squaw." I'm guessing that Lily Harlem had no idea that is an ethnic slur when she was writing this.
I still enjoyed the story! The writing is great, the characters are interesting people (except for Old Conner and his friends), and I want to see what else will be mixed in with the plains tribe's ways. At this point, I'm classifying this as FANTASY romance and not historical romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2020I find Lily Harper's tales to be quite interesting and erotic. The well described emotions of the characters places the reader as "a fly on the wall". I also appreciate the detailed descriptions of the settings.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2024I really enjoyed the first book, but with this one the story just gets better.
I love the diversity of the characters so much. Mahpee, Hinto, and Yas are all very distinct male characters where so often in this type of story they often can "mush" into one glob of a character. Obviously, due to their culture and time period there is much about each that is similar, but they have distinctive characteristics and mannerisms.
I'm excited to see how the story continues to unfold.
Side note: The only thing I have disliked about both books thus far is the use of the word "cụnny" during the heated scenes. I think this is the first time I've found a word that truly bothers me while reading. Who knew! I refuse to lower stars for something as subjective as that, however, as truly that has no bearing on the story or writing itself. But I did want to make note as that is an unusual (to me) version of the word Americans typically might see in these books. For me, it was distracting and pulled me from the scene, so I simply began automatically inserting "cụn+" in its place, which helped.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2022I enjoyed the drama of the story. Not sure I agree with the orgy with two men. I will not recommend this story for the young adult reader.
