About the author

Adrian Sturrock is a writer, occasional musician, teacher, and ethnic minority (except when in Wales), specialising mostly in observation and unconsidered opinion. He currently lives in Buckinghamshire, UK, with wife, Natalie: his travel companion, best friend, and the person responsible for keeping him out of trouble on social media.
His first travelogue, THE SAT NAV DIARIES was well received on both sides of the Atlantic, gaining a string of 5-star reviews and culminating in a nomination for a 2018 Kindle Book Award. His follow up, THE SAT NAV DIARIES 2.0 (HEADING EAST…ISH) has been equally well received and has itself been nominated for a 2021 Kindle Book Award.
Adrian has also published two successful collections of humour articles through his RANDOM series, in which he considers a number of everyday pressing issues, from ‘how to get paid to fail a job interview’, to ‘why it is perfectly fine to blame French sociologists for one’s own first world problems’.
Beyond his own publications, Adrian Sturrock has contributed to a number of travel and lifestyle anthologies and online publications, as well as having had his poetry/lyrics displayed alongside those of Benjamin Zephaniah in Luton Town Hall (though it is unlikely that Benjamin is aware of this).
Other claims to fame include being smiled at by Madonna, and having once spent an afternoon watching Ace Ventura, Pet Detective in Barry Gibb’s living room, where Bee Gee’s manager, David English, remarked on his shoes.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2019I was looking forward to reading this after having enjoyed the Sat Nav Diaries so much. Adrian Sturrock's first book was a travelogue; this book is completely different...although in one important way it is just the same. It continues with the wonderful repartee that goes on between the author and his wife, but in a series of incidents or events in their lives. The stories themselves are simply snapshots and as the title says, they are fairly random. There are also a few flashbacks to Adrian Sturrock's earlier life, two of which I found quite poignant and touching. However, what makes this book so rich and so entertaining is the author's self deprecating humour and his fantastic way of presenting the witty, warm and sometimes wacky dialogues between himself and his wife. I laughed till I cried; I read parts aloud to my partner, and I constantly wanted to stop and share it with whoever happened to be sitting next to me on the tram or in the college coffee shop. It's a wonderful book that I will probably read again. Quite an anthology in fact and one I will treasure for future occasions when I feel in need of some cheering up. This book will definitely to that time and again.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2019Random does what it says on the tin. Random thoughts and musings from the very funny and intelligent mind of Adrian Sturrock. The book starts making me laugh out loud from the first page. Who else could turn a scam call into such a hilarious conversation? I was crying with laughter by the end of the first chapter. And the rest of the book is just as amusing. From Christmas, to vacation preparations, to acquiring a cat, Adrian's mind finds a warped and wonderfully funny take on every situation. I laughed all the way through his first book, The Sat Nav Diaries, and look forward to the insight into his life in his weekly blog. This takes his blog a step further and is a wonderful book. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humor.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2021Humorous memoir on one man's random life experiences. Just a mish mash of topics, some funnier than others. Bought author's first book to give it a try as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2020I'm not sure what kind of memoir this is. Bits of memories, maybe. Sturrock jumps from one subject to another while revisiting various times in his life from childhood on up. Calling the book Random is perfect for these random clips of recall from the past. Several are quite funny. On two occasions I nearly choked on my ever ready snack to be eaten while reading. Note to self: no potato chips when reading Adrian Sturrock books. They hurt when they get lodged in the throat while whooping an unexpected laugh. I look forward to reading more from this author, but without the handy chips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Genius!
After having read "The Sat Nav Diaries" I was left needing more...Adrian's style of writing is wonderous and hilarious! So, when I found he'd published another book I was more than keen to read it. "Random" is a very different format, but no less funny and thought provoking than his first book. I found it very difficult to put down, resulting in the disappointment of finishing it too quickly!! It had me crying with laughter from the off, describing his conversation with the cold caller who was informing him that he, Adrian, had had an accident. On the flip side of this however, he then had me in floods of tears writing about the time he had to take his wife, Nat, to hospital. Even through the tears I found myself laughing at the way the pair of them managed to keep a humorous edge to the clearly unfunny situation they found themselves in.
His unique outlook on life is positively refreshing and it is a privilege to have him share it in this brilliant book.
My only qualm is that it was over too soon....more please!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amusing and very entertaining book
Adrian writes with humour, insight and an ability to take the ordinary and making it highly amusing. A series of witty anecdotes and musings that make you stop and think ‘Oh thank goodness – I am not alone!’ as you giggle and agree with so many of his thoughts and antics. I sat and read over half the book in one sitting – my only warning is that I was so engrossed in the book, my legs went to sleep, resulting in me hopping around and cursing the writer than can draw me in to that extent! An excellent, genuinely funny, and at times poignant and unique book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny & quirky
It's a book that you'll quickly relate too, then sit & think....was that about me? Very cleverly written, plenty of laughs too

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny.
Another entertaining read from the mind of polymath Adrian Sturrock. As in the brilliant Sat Nav Diaries Mr Sturrock demonstrates how to leap from one subjective situation to another while taking the reader along for the ride, all the while keeping his audience laughing aloud. Mr Sturrock is a born sociologist, capable of identifying and then demonstrating the inherent insanity in everyday exchanges and experiences. He is indeed a gifted writer but his great talent is extracting the extraordinary from the banal in such a way that it makes our world a more cheery place.
Each piece is different, ranging from the poignant to thought provoking or downright hilarious.
Highly recommended for the dour and the bewildered.*
*and everyone else.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read which is perfectly summarised in the title
A mix of hilarious musings, sentimentality and love. Adrian summarises his main themes, thought progression, and the involuntary responses to various situations in the title of his second laugh-out-loud witty book, Random. His style shows various levels of depth and conscious self-reflection, and general silliness resulting in a very enjoyable read, with easily digestible chapters. The perfect book for commutes, lunch-breaks, and holiday reading.
