Real Like Daydreams: A College Romance (Savage U) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,367 ratings

Seraphina…that’s a big name.

The first time I laid eyes on Julien Umbra, he made me cry.

That makes him sound mean, but grumpy would be more of an apt description. Besides, I always cry when I’m drunk.

Hate is a strong, strong word.

I’m back for another semester at Savage U, nursing a bruised heart and shattered ego. That’s what happens when your ex cheats and everyone knows.

Worse than that, the girl my ex told me not to worry about and then banged is vying for the one thing I want: drum captain of the marching band.

Pretend all you want to.

I have a chance to get what I want, there’s just one little thing I have to do: fake date the grumpy guy in the hoodie. The one who sits alone at the front of the class and growls at anyone who speaks to him.

But Julien doesn’t growl at me, and to my surprise, he agrees to be my fake boyfriend.

Breaking the already broken…

Julien is scarred in more ways than one, but he’s not as broken as he thinks he is. There's something about him that draws me in.

I like him, and the longer we do this, it starts to feel like it’s not for show.

All of this is fleeting.

I have to remember this is fake.

When I get what I want, Julien and I will walk away from each other.

The song will end.

But what if all I want is Julien?

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

Ms. Wolf is one of the best at character development. Her characters are so complex, and she reveals them piece by piece, in the most amazingly beautiful ways.

For the full effect, start the series from the beginning. It's important to see Julian at his best, when he is broken and the dark space he was in before his sweet, bright Sera gave him a guiding light.

I don't know how I can write a spoiler free review, but I will say, I appreciate J. Wolf for having the characters do the hard work to fix themselves. We see true growth and maturity. The partner is never expected to be the answer, just a puzzle piece in the solution.

I love him. He's the best one. I missed his carefree spirit from earlier books, but the person he grew into is just so sincere and devoted. The sweetness of him texting Sera through her insecurities and slowly healing himself at the same time was beautiful and I cried during the come to Jesus moment with Amir.

I love Julian’s and Seraphina’s romantic story. Julian became one of my favorite characters in previous books in this series. Seraphina is so likable with her sweet personality and awkwardness. I immensely enjoyed the growth both characters showed in the book as they dealt with emotional issues, family drama and an ex. I was happy the book was unpredictable and didn’t follow the typical plot in books with the same tropes of taking a bet and fake dating. It had greater depth in the plot then other books I’ve read with those tropes. I loved the perfect combination of hot sizzling chemistry and emotional closeness between Julian and Seraphina. I was a little worried in the beginning that Julian’s physical issues would bring down his attractiveness since I like heroes who are strong, protective and alpha like. There was no need to worry. While the girls in the series have their bats, he has his cane. He’s able to use his cane for more than helping him to walk. Even with his physical issues from an accident, he still showed strength and protectiveness. He also had the alpha like personality I love in book heroes. There was absolutely nothing lacking in those very steamy scenes. Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. It deals with sensitive issues and does have trigger warnings that some readers may want to look at before reading it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Real Like Daydreams was my first book by J. Wolf and I must say that I absolutely loved this book! The plot and characters were everything. I feel in love with Sera and Julien's story. I found myself smiling or laughing out loud with them and I found myself feeling their heart break and than it was healed with them. I will carry this story for a long time to come.

Real like Daydreams is Book four in the Savage U series by Julia Wolf. This book is superior to other books in so many ways. Dual storylines going on with Julian texting Sera as Phantom after a chance encounter at her then-boyfriend Seth’s party. Sera had no idea who the stranger was who spent time with her when she was abandoned by her boyfriend while he was doing his own thing. In music class Sera is challenged to take a bet that she will make Julian fall for her and then dump him by spring break to acquire the coveted “drum major” college band position. That bet changed both Sera and Julian. As Sera and Julian get to know each other the barriers protecting their hearts begin to crumble. Old emotional wounds become exposed as each reveals layer by layer the hurts from their past. In every book, Julia Wolf writes I fall in love with her hero and think that character will be the reigning book boyfriend. Instead, each new book outdoes her last book which is quite a feat since they are each amazing! No matter what book Julia Wolf writes I want another one right away!

This book was good in the beginning. In the middle the book fell off a little bit in being interesting. I liked the premise but the book seem to drag on for too long. I liked the ending and I wish we got to see the MMC propose and the wedding but whatever. I also would have liked the scene of them finding out they were pregnant. The end seemed abrupt and in a way rushed. The book overall was eh and some what average. I thought this was a fake dating book but the fake dating didn’t last long. The plot was wayyy too complicated at times and tried too hard. It wasn’t natural to read. I did like how the guy read her favorite fanfic so they could talk about it. The couple was cute at the end. In the beginning a little and in middle kinda but too much drama to like them together. Overall it was an okay book. I don’t know if I would recommend it it would depend on the person. 3/5

It was great reading. Loved the main leads, their chemistry, their struggles, and their happily ever after. This one has the best epilogue I have come across after a very long time. So happy I came across this one and read it. Will try other books of this author. Wishing her all the best for her other works.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/6.
    🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5.

This book took me by surprise! I wasn't sure if i would continue with it in the beginning because Seraphina wasn't really doing it for me and i'm not really sure why but maybe because of how she was before Julien because the person she became after Julien i was here for. I also knew what the conflict was going to be from the start so i also wasn't looking forward to it but at the same time i didn't really knew how it would pan out. I also wasn't feeling it because i adored Julien since BLM so it's no surprise that the minimum thing would not go well with me ( i.g when someone would belittle Julien because of his cane and Seraphina would stand there and not tell people off and i get it. Julien has a mouth and could defend himself and Sera is not used to stand up for herself let alone others but it still sucked, A lot, especially when we know what Julien thinks of himself and his situation. I guess overall in that aspect i expected more from Sera from the beginning but that was it, my expectations because it was clear Sera was the type to take bs from others and shut up until she wasn't anymore.

Julien is swoony, caring, protective, loyal and wise. I guess i wasn't expecting him to be this mature but i loved it. I just loved everything about him.
Sera grew into her own and she learned what was good and bad for her and despite it being difficult for her standing up for herself, she did it with dignity and with the thought that no one should take whatever the other person is giving and not fight for yourself. She did it and i was proud of her. She also accepted all of her but also Julien. Beautiful Story!
I loved their friendship and the meaning behind it and how it all came to be. I really loved seeing them being genuinely friends and lean on each other the way they did.

Now the bromance because i saw the book was almost done and i was a bit worried that we wouldn't have a resolution for Julien & Amir. I worried for something! Obviously i wanted the conversation to happen a bit early but honestly Jules wasn't in the place yet where he could. I'm so glad they are okay again and they talked about their feelings. They have an amazing brotherhood. Marco seemed aloof throughout the series but he's a deep guy. He just chooses to be selective of people he lets in. I wonder if J. Wolf has plans for him. Hopefully we get his story someday.

Beckett is the best little brother. I can't wait for his story with Luciana!
I loved seeing the gang all together and isn't Elena just amazing? I loved her so much!
I just loved that she was a part of Julien pep talk in order to get Sera back. Their friendship is very heartwarming but all of them really support each other no matter what and i loved to see it.

Oh Julien, I knew this book was going to rip me to pieces but it managed to put me back together again. We first meet Julien in book 2 and he is a confident man with an easy smile who loves to joke around. Toward the end of that book he is in a horrific accident that he shouldn’t have walked away from.

You see glimpses of him in book 3 and you see how much he has changed. The best way to explain him is that he is broken. He is still recovering from his injuries and he has closed himself off from his friends.

We meet Sera in book 3 and she is one fierce female. In the beginning you learn that she went through an awful breakup and she is still recovering from that. She shares a class with Julien who intrigues her slightly and when the opportunity to secure her spot as captain of the drum line she takes it.

    The opportunity? Fake dating Julien.

The connection these two have and when you start to piece the story together, it’s a beautiful love story. Like all the other books, it’s filled with angst and heartbreaking moments but promise me when I say, it’s worth it.

Wrapping up this series really got me emotional because I fell in love with this entire universe. If you are thinking about reading this series, don’t hesitate!

I love this series, the characters have really grown and matured into amazing people.
This book really had some real lows, I was brought to tears a few times. I loved their relationship journey, even if part was fake.
The judgement and superficial people really stood out for me in this book, those people that only look surface deep - they miss out on the real deal.
I was completely and utterly consumed with this book and couldn’t put it down until the very last word.loved the future epilogue- perfection

I really enjoyed reading this love story. It started slowly with some background to Sera and her first encounter with her Phatom, but moved swiftly with honesty being the best policy throughout. As always, I loved the 'We'll put each others broken parts back together' vibes, with Sera and Julien being such a sweet and devoted team getting over his slightly stalkerish behaviour at the start. Fab read, enjoy!
