Reaper Unexpected (Deadside Reapers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 3,744 ratings

Your dead are our business.

Got a loved one who’s passed? Want to ask your dead aunt where she hid that elusive will? Head over to Necro city and look no further than Soul Savers Inc.

One day the world was normal, and the next, it was filled with ghosts. And then the reapers came. Blood-sucking hot dudes with wings and wicked scythes. They took control, and now we have a system.

Now we have Necro city, the hub of all things untethered.

As a soul relocation agent, it’s my job to rehouse the dead until the reapers come to collect, but with so few of those dudes about, the wait isn’t pretty. Thank goodness for decent coffee, frosted donuts, and a pending promotion.

Things are looking good until they’re not.

One bar fight and a dead reaper later, I’m left holding the scythe.

Not just any scythe, but a scythe belonging to one of Lilith’s four favored sons—the most powerful reapers in the world.

For some reason, it’s chosen me.

Now, three very large, very pissed off reapers are on my case.

It looks like that promotion is going to have to wait.

A kickass Urban fantasy Romance with multiple love interests. Vampires, ghosts, angels, and demons. Perfect for readers who enjoy forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, or friends to lovers.

Summary: I recommend this for any one interested in a unique world with quirky characters. Strong female main character, with strong supporting characters and interesting potential love interests. Also those who follow the why choose/multiple love interest book trope.

To start, I came to this series after reading another series by Debbie Cassidy. Turns out I jumped into the series that comes after this one. The interesting (and honestly well employed writing method) that Cassidy did did not spoil anything in the second series in this universe with too much details from the first. What this means is when starting this series I did not come in knowing anything about the storyline, and more importantly to me anything about relationships (other than the main character of the next series). So that's a point in the pro column for me.

Now we start with Fee as a soul processor... about to get her promotion to Darkside. A promotion she very much wants to get to. But life had other plans for her. Fee tried to help save someone when she saw them in trouble. She was unable to save the person but was instead granted their powers (or she inherited them however you want to view it).

Now you follow Fee as she learns her new role and responsibilities, meets her cute and damaged coworkers, and learns more about the world she lives in than she ever knew before. Drama, Romance, Supernatural investigations, and dark themes abound to pull you into this story with multiple intriguing characters who aid in the story telling.

It needs to be said that this does end with a Cliffhanger of sorts. Not a huge crazy one, but still a decent one. Cassidy is very good (or in some people's opinions very bad/evil) about doing this for most books. However she does very well in gripping her readers interest to get them to jump right into the next story to resolve the cliffhanger.

I loved how this series was so unique compared to her to other books in the same universe. Some authors don't do that and it makes things repetitive in storylines. Each series has different personalities and different challenges.

WARNING! Cliffhanger… it’s relatively minor, about 3/5 on the scale, which is a life changing event and you’re left hanging!

    * * *

Seraphia (Fee) Dawn, is a soul processor awaiting her job transfer to Darkside, when a misguided attempt to help someone in need lands her as a Dominus, a scythed reaper.
The job comes with some attractive co-workers, none of whom seem to want her around; and the distinctly dangerous side effect of being hunted by monsters.
It’s up to Fee to try and harness those powers, and to keep herself alive.

    * * *

This is the first book in the Deadside Reapers series, and it is set in a Post-Apocalyptic London (England). Our heroine is a twenty-five year old woman, who was orphaned as a small child, and grew up with a foster-turned-adoptive mother. She has a mysterious heritage that is gradually revealed throughout the story.
Since this is billed as an RH romance, we also have three males of interest… the Dominus reapers: Mal, Azazel, and Conah. Being the first in series, and seeing as the romance is somewhat slow burn, it gets a 2 pepper rating, mostly because of Mal’s shenanigans!
There is a minimal amount of humour, but some heart breaking scenes involving children, consider yourself warned.
There is plenty of action, a number of fights and some considerable danger to the MCs.
Considering all the above, it definitely is an +18 book!

This is an urban fantasy with layers, and we haven’t explored most of those as yet. Some mysteries have begun to be resolved, but most of them are still concealed from us. It makes for an engaging read as we try to puzzle out who the hooded figures were, and what they wanted (I know I have my suspicions).
The reapers themselves are layered in shadows too, and it will be interesting to see where it all leads.

This is an engrossing urban fantasy book, for those who like their fantasy post apocalyptic, and with multiple love interests!

Again I'm blown away. Fee is tough, smart, courageous, funny and love sick. She needs to get laid. Malachi is a douche but straight forward. Conor is sweet but is playing with fire, He should be upfront with Fee. The story is intense and now Azazel is all sorts of crazy right now. I'm intrigued and loving this story. It has so many key point but most of all it has my attention and I'm going to continue this ride.

This book was great! I couldn’t put it down and really enjoyed reading it. I love the kick-ass, strong heroine. The world building is good and unique to any book I have read so far. The dialogue and inner musings are hilarious and definitely had me laughing out loud. Excited to see what happens in the next book!

So Debbie Cassidy really does bring us unique and amazing books
After I read the wolves of Hawthorne cove series which I have to add was the best series in the paranormal/ shifter section and that series brought me to the work of Debbie Cassidy and her incredible writing
I knew this series what gonna be good, what I didn’t expect was how good
I never read any reaper series before this and I love it. It’s different, got it’s own unique with a lot of history we know when it comes to Adam and Eve, Lilith and demons
I’m a huge supernatural fan hehe
So dead side reapers has ticked all my boxes and more
So our leading lady in this book is seraphina aka fee works with the dead/ghost so she already knows of shifters, vamps and demons
She was planning to move up her career with her promotion she just made giving her two weeks to find the chance she might be able to finally meet her dead relative and she finds herself trying to save a reaper and he isn’t just any reaper he’s part of the four sons of Lilith
Which again will explain more when you dive into this awesome series
Now don’t expect there to be romance straight away, another slow burner and if it’s anything like wolves of Hawthorne then you know the wait will be worth it.
It’s another series that has a lot going for it self and has its own charm to make it stand out to other paranormal/urban fantasy romance
And this is why Debbie Cassidy has become one of my favourite authors.

An intriguing world well designed a twist on the normal supernatural dogma. Loved the characters and the intertwining mystery as Fee learns of the hidden celestial and supernatural world around her, she is slowly finding her strength and her destiny.
