Rebound (Pucks & Rainbows Book 1) Kindle Edition
Officer Geoff Logan has his plate full. His cop’s salary and Marine retirement aren’t enough to make ends meet. He’s got war wounds and demons that are in it for the long haul. His teenagers are, well, teenagers, plus they’re pissed that he left the boyfriend they loved. Can’t a guy catch a break?
Seattle Snowhawks center Asher Crowe has it all. A seven figure salary. A literal house on a hill. A stable, loving relationship with an amazing boyfriend. At least, that’s what the world sees. Behind closed doors, he’s been living in a private hell, and when he finally works up the courage to end things, his boyfriend refuses to go quietly.
One call to the cops, and suddenly Geoff and Asher’s paths cross. But is the connection between them simple chemistry? Kindred spirits? Or just a pair of lonely hearts looking for a hot distraction?
And even if it’s more than physical, is there really a future for two men from such vastly different worlds? Especially when the past comes knocking?
This novel is approximately 89,000 words long.

Rebound is the first book in Pucks & Rainbows hockey series. It's MM Contempory Romance. HEA. Ice Hockey, Sports. May-December. Men in Blue. Angst. Abuse. Hurt-Comfort. Can be read as a standalone.
This edition 429 pages, 27th March 2019.
I realized after a re-read that there's not a word of review and it's a fondly remembered favourite book and that even in this author's books and hers are my favourites.
I can't really put it to words how good and all the reasons why.
It's simply that good. It's so well balanced. There's simply enough of everything and nothing too much or missing, so well crafted in such a well made mold that it's just perfect for me. It's got a real good set of main characters and characters in general. There's such good conflict in it. It's about real issues and realistic. Believable. Addresses stuff that's good to talk about. It's so well written and mixed I can just wish every book I read was as good. And the guys on skates, of course, OMG, ice hockey players. Icing on top.
It's such a good series but this one's undoubtedle the most favourite which hits my "now there's a good book" buttons.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAs a general rule, I try to avoid novels featuring sports stars, and in particular, stars of American sports. I decided to give this one a try because I'd read a book by this author before that had really wowed me, and I wanted to read more of her work.
Geoff is a cop, and he's just left a long-term relationship where he was emotionally bullied and manipulated. His teenage children had no idea what was going on behind the scenes and resent their father for leaving the 'stepdad' who had treated them so well.
Asher is the ice hockey star, and when he tries to break up with his physically abusive boyfriend in a 'safe, public place', the cops end up being called and that's how Geoff and Asher meet.
'He’d been like a velociraptor testing the fence for weak spots, and once he found them, he exploited them. Okay, so that wasn’t the sexiest analogy in the world, but the sex we had wasn’t the sexiest either, so… Velociraptor. Fence. Nathan.'
Geoff goes out of his way (like, seriously out of his way) to help Asher after the scene at the restaurant. I was questioning how realistic that was, but then Geoff's partner started questioning it too, making it clear that this was not normal police behaviour. That helped me as a reader, because I felt like the author was acknowledging that Geoff was behaving weirdly. And he was doing it because he was both attracted to and felt empathy for Asher.
Overall, I thought the story was sweet. The characters felt real. I felt like there wasn't enough conflict to make it really gripping or involved, but that was okay. It was sweet. Sometimes you just want something easy and sweet, yeah? Not that this was particularly easy in that both men were dealing with the aftermath from the relationships they'd been in and the way they'd been treated by their respective partners, but between them, it was sweet. Steamy, yes, but still sweet. Okay, I promise I'm not going to use the word sweet again! It definitely made me smile a few times, and I like that in a book.
'“Frat Boys on Ice?” I laughed. “That’s even better than the Magnificent Dumpster Fire Riots.” He chuckled. “Maybe they could be our opening act.” “I’d buy tickets.” I wrapped my arm around his shoulders and drew him closer. “With bands like that, it definitely wouldn’t be a boring show.”'
One thing I particularly liked is that there's no 'magic cure'. Neither of them get over their past relationships just because they've found a new one, and Geoff's nightmares resulting from PTSD from his combat days don't suddenly disappear now that he's sleeping with Asher. The author acknowledges that these things take time, and sometimes the answer is to work out how to live with the things that don't go away.
The ice hockey thing didn't bother me too much (remembering that I've never seen an ice hockey game in my life) but I did feel like Asher (and therefore the author) were a little too insistent on this idea that an ice hockey player has to be aggressive on the ice (because fighting is part of the sport) and explaining to Geoff (and the reader) how that's separate from aggression or lack thereof off the ice. That point was a wee bit laboured, but it didn't significantly detract from the book.
I gave it four stars out of five, which is impressive from me for a book featuring an American sports star.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’ve never anything by this author (at least not that I’m aware of) but this book was fantastic. I’m not new to the M/M genre but I’m picky. I tend to prefer sports romance so this one hooked me from the start. The dual POV really works for this book because while both main characters have recently gotten out of abusive relationships, their situations weren’t the same and their reactions aren’t the same. I liked that Geoff (44 year old retired Marine now a cop) and Asher (25-ish year old professional hockey player) developed a relationship over a few meetings instead of jumping each other right away. I also appreciated that the author didn’t treat their relationship like a “Daddy” relationship (M/m or m/f, the Daddy Dom usually creeps me out) even though she could have gone there considering the age difference. The sexy times are detailed and hot even though she didn’t go the traditional M/M route. There’s some repetition that I could have done without but others made perfect sense considering that many abuse survivors can’t get some of those reactions and thoughts out of their heads and it tends to consume them. I could go on and on but I don’t want to spoil anything. Can’t wait for book 2 (although I wish the series had a different name).
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe first half of this novel is edited better than the second half, which means I skimmed through the second half, which irritates me no end since it means I was LIED to for a sale.
Plus, had the editing been better, I could've given this five stars, despite the whole 'why don't you two just TALK TO EACH OTHER' issue (too common throughout the genre). What they saved in time/editor cost, I resent and say so here. Any review adds to rating, but for those who read reviews (hi) I hope this helps you decide on this book for yourself.
Plot, a little slow, a lot sweet, a fair amount 'argh, TALK' and a lot creepy via each abusive ex. Surprisingly good epilogue, considering it's in the second half. Characters were good, all of them.
If only the boring and repetitive bits, dialogue and thoughts, had gotten the editing they needed, particularly the conversation filler phrases like "What do you mean?" - as if he can't offer a counter-thought. Or like, follow the thread, or whatever. It's lazy writing, is what I'm saying. Or lazy editing, an issue I have with this writer in particular. Every time I fall for another of her novels, I end up grousing about the clunky prose. Oh well. Maybe I can make this one my line in the sand, since it was good despite having to skim.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
Format: KindleVerified Purchase4.5* "Maybe I'll just read one chapter with my lunch" turned into me devouring this whole thing in one sitting. Hard to put down with a fab storyline, delicious characters, and the usual wonderful writing that just drags you through the book...what's not to like? Also silver-fox cop and hot hockey player with all his teeth? Show me someone who doesn't need that in their life and I'll show you a liar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Harmlos
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIch fand es etwas ermüdend wie gut und verständnisvoll Geoff war und wie unsicher Asher war. Ansonsten war es ganz nett . Nicht brillant aber okay.
