4.5 out of 5 stars 2,011 ratings

Vincent:
Forgetting about Eve was the plan.
Finding her at a party on my college campus was the last thing I expected.
But letting her go again isn’t an option—not this time.
Juggling the life I want with the one I was born into may be near impossible, but for her, it's a risk I'm willing to take.
My world has turned into a house of cards, where one wrong move can send it all crashing down…and us with it.
Eve:
Finally at a prestigious university—and on the path to living my dreams—I’ve left the darkness of the Blue Houses behind.
Still, a whole new host of problems await me.
Vincent is here.
He's king of the school, complete with a society princess by his side.
I thought I wanted to know what he was hiding, but unlocking his biggest secret leads me into entirely new territory laced with danger and lust...one I’m not sure I’ll survive.

Review

The whole book brought it's angsty A-game! I can't even form thoughts! My head is a mess. THE FEELS! Dead over them! Ugh ugh ugh!!! LOVE THIS SO HARD.- Angie, Angie and Jessica's Dreamy Reads

Poignant, passionate, and powerful, Reckoning is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and one of the BEST SERIES I've met! Reckoning OWNS every ounce of me. I was a GONER--so WONDERFULLY WRECKED by Reckoning. Hook. Line. Sinker. THIS LOVE STORY SLAYS ALL THE WAY!-
Karen, Bookalicious Babes Blog

Historically book twos in a series fall a little flat for me, the middle part of the story that deals with the why, how and what doesn't always have the holding power to keep my attention, but Reckoning...it had me screaming for more. Depression setting in when I got to the end. Swiping, my kindle needing more. Please...MORE! I am SO SO ready for book three. MOOOORE!!-

Jessica did it again!!!

Jessica did it again!!!
Jessica Ruben did it again! Another 5 star read. I feel like the book finished too fast... I needed more of Vince and Eve. You will definitely want to know more about their life. There's nothing I love more than reading a book that has a strong female character. She's smart, caring, loving, and is willing to stand up for the ones she loves. The male character is willing to sacrifice his life for her and his family. I love that they tried to not give in to their feelings for each other. I can't even tell you how many times I screamed to my kindle that it wasn't fair! I laughed, I screamed, and I cried. I was on the edge with this book. Jessica Ruben has such an incredible talent to be able to make you feel all this in her books. This book was amazing, perfect, remarkable, shocking... Definitely a must read...I can't wait for the next book!... Hopefully not too far away!

At the end of Rising, I was left dying for more. I felt like I had read the best book of the year. One that touched on all of my favorite tropes and feels, that felt as if it was written just for me. Reckoning quickly became my most anticipated book of the year, and my expectations were probably unfairly high. I wanted more, more gritty, more angst, more s*x and intrigue and bada-ness and holy heck, did Jessica Ruben deliver! This was CONSUMING. It was a kick in the gut, brimming with angst and feels, twists and turns, and one wicked ending that left me completely destroyed and dying for the next part.

Seriously, what a thrilling sequel to a series that is undoubtedly the BEST of the year. It's been a long time since I've read something this good, since I've felt so giddy, so completely over-the-top in love with a storyline as I do with the Vincent & Eve series. This truly feel like it was written with my likes and needs in mind (lololololol -- I know it wasn't, but it feels that way)! Every page speaks to my romantic heart, every moment gives me pure life. It RUINS AND WRECKS, overtakes and makes me want to live inside of this story over and over and over and over again. It's that freaking good.

Vincent and Eve leave us in an intense and exciting place at the end of Rising. Jessica Ruben kicks that into high gear in Reckoning. We get to see them together, watch what happens to their dynamic in a new setting, with new people, with so many new factors that work to keep this destined couple apart. Know that you are in for one hell of a thrill ride. Vincent is a bad-a** and Reckoning really showcases that side of him. We get to see his ties to the family, his struggles and demons, and his overwhelming need and urge to have Eve for himself. Ahhhhh! It was beyond words incredible. The connection between Eve and Vincent is so tangible, so seductive and sexy and heartwarming. I pretty much died over them.

This sequel is truly one of the best I've EVER read. Jessica brought it all, the gritty and intense, the raw and sexy, the ups and downs, push and pulls that keeps you engaged, on the edge of your seat, desperate for more of this couple. And that ending. IT IS WICKED. It leaves you desperate for more. I absolutely love and hate the feeling of being left dangling on the edge but man, am I counting down to the 3rd installment. There is no doubt in my mind that at the end of this, it's going to be one of the BEST series I've ever read. Already, it's taken a TOP spot in my heart and I can't stop obsessing over it, I can't stop recommending it to everyone I know. Frankly, this series is a MUST READ for every romance reader. Mafia + Fighter + Romance + a little Suspense = bookish heaven. What more can you even ask for? THIS. IS. EVERYTHING!

Okay, so I am going to be a little lighter in my review of this book because I know it is book two of a three part series. Had this book been a stand alone it would be getting thee stars from me rather then four. Let me explain:

I LOVED book one, like truly loved it. And while this book was well written, character driven, and an emotional ride; a few things didn't quite work for me. When two characters enter into each others lives, there is a give and take, a learning curve. While these characters learned more about each other in this book, I do not think they grew. I might even say they stalled or deteriorated.

Eve: I get she had a hard life, but she was so whiney, so wimpy, so almost annying in this story that I lost some of my caring feelings for her. Where is her spine? Where was her determination to understand, too trust? I wanted more from her. I needed her to trust Vincent, to understand that if they were to be together sacrifices had to be made. I don't believe for a moment she thought about anyone else but herself. She felt selfish to me.

Vincent: where was that strong, determined, gruff alpha male from book one? He got all sweet and gooey in this book and lost some of his magic. He needed more strength when it came to Eve and to his wretched "girlfriend."

Plot: while I love that this story is character driven and "mafia light," the choices that were made in that plot line seemed a bit too unrealistic for me. Not a big deal, but didn't quite go with the rest of the story for me. Don't get me started on Daniela's story line lack of resolution. I am hoping she is in book three and gets her comeupins.

Now; having stated the basic reason for my four star rather then five star review; let me say this is still an amazing story and a wonderful book. I am hoping book three will balance out the previous books and complete the story for me. This is still a favorite series for me and I will still recommend it to others. I am immediately jumping into book three now. I am so happy to have discovered this series and this author!

This is the second book in this great series and I have to say I loved it! This time Vincent is gone back to college and Eve is just starting college, she is determined to be a lawyer, she is enjoying college life when she goes to a party with her friend when she see someone at the party she didn't think she would see again. That shocks her but there is more he has a long time mean girlfriend and she find also he is a made man and the Prince of the college. Now Vincent is not what he seems, is a made man but he is also a good guy and he trying to stay away from Eve but they are Soulmates , Eve of course is mad at him but she is can't stay away either. Vincent college girlfriend is a internet social star and she has to have Vincent with her and she has power over Vincent since her father does business for Vincent family. So things get hard for Eve and Vincent, it's so great to see them together even if everyone is against them but things goes bad for Vincent and has to make a sacrifice. I will not tell you more , you just have to read this great book, the third book is out so I have to read the last one to see Vincent and Eve HEA! Will recommend this book to all romance readers💗

Blimey where to start with this review.

All the way through Rising, I had to keep pinching myself that the book I was lost in was a debut novel. The entire journey from beginning to end was of such an outstanding quality, I truly wasn’t sure how or if Book 2 would live up to, or exceed my expectations. I needed so desperately more heart stopping emotions from Vincent & Eve to feed the insane obsession I have for this couple, it was crazy.

Gahhhhh I’m bursting, giddy with sweet satisfaction that JR delivered gut punch after gut punch with Reckoning, leaving me even more strung out & desperate for the final book, by the time my kindle blinked THE END. It was so damned good I could cry.

I got those emotions I craved ten fold. Angst, twists & turns, passion, tenderness & tears. Yup, talk about a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. Jessica pulled me back into their world with such ease & refused to let me go. Her character development stole my breath as I witnessed the heartache & rawness of these two damaged individuals, who continually tried to stop their pasts from colliding with their future. Hard hitting, gripping goodness of the highest order.

Truly a magnificent second book In what is proving to be one of my Top series this year. A debut author shining so blindingly bright is a joy to behold. Now for Book 3

I'm absolutely loving this series of Eve and Vincent.
I'd love to have a Vincent in my life! Cold, hard, ruthless son of the Mafia boss yet loving, kind, protector of Eve.
The second book in this Mafia series is a must read. A lot more depth to it compared with the first book and now I can't wait to read the next one.

I wasn’t planning on reading the second book in this series because I really didn’t care for the first one but I happened to read a review from someone whose opinion I trust and, somewhat reluctantly, I decided to give it a chance. I’m glad that I did because I have to admit that I think the writing, story and editing were better this time around and I’m actually kind of looking forward to reading the third and final book in the series.
