- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2012Remembrance was an amazing debut novel by Michelle Madow. I had first discovered the novel when I came across the author where it stated that her novel was inspired by Taylor Swift's music video "Love Story", I knew that I had to read it and the description sounded really interesting. I finally purchased the book in January and I wasn't disappointed. The book drew me in from very first page. Part of me didn't want it to end but another part of didn't want to put down. Michelle made the story come to life.
Remembrance tells a story about a high school student, Lizzie Davenport whose life changes when she meets Drew Carmichael. From the moment that Lizzie meets him, something happens to her and she feel an instant connection to him, having feeling as if she had met him somewhere before. However, anytime she tries talking to him, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. However, he seems to know more about her than anyone else.
Things start to get more complicated when Drew starts dating her best friend, Chelsea. Lizzie can't seem thinking about Drew, and the more cold he acts towards her, the more her heart seems to break. When Lizzie starts to get flashes of her and Drew in Regency Era, England, she starts to get confused. Causing her to realize that maybe she was given another chance and that her and Drew belong together, now how she get for Drew to see that?
I loved Lizzie from very beginning, and having story from her point of view worked very well. I could actually imagine what she was feeling, especially when she started getting all those confusing feelings about Drew. I did feel sorry for Lizzie though, mostly because the way both Drew & Jeremy treated her. It seemed as people were hurting over again and it seemed as some people were trying to make decisions for her. When Lizzie broke up with Jeremy, it seems as if Chelsea wouldn't give up till they got back together, it seemed as nobody wanted to listen to her reasoning.
Drew, in beginning I wasn't too fond of his character but it was mostly because the way he treated Lizzie. Of course that's what made the story more interesting when there is some sort of conflict between the characters. I could see his mixed feelings for Lizzie through the story. I knew for fact that he cared for her when he showed up at Halloween dance and instead going for Chelsea, he went for Lizzie. I loved that scene, the dance scene between Lizzie and Drew, there was so much emotion there, and Michelle described that scene very well. I was hoping that after that scene Drew would come to his senses.
I loved Lizzie's drawings, and the masks. The way that Michelle described them, I could actually picture them. I loved how she mentioned Pride & Prejudice in the book, and I could see how in way it fit with what was going on with Lizzie and her feelings. I think what Chelsea did with Drew was wrong in my opinion; I think she should just talked to Lizzie about it, instead of hurting her. I could see why she did it though, she was hurt and I could tell when towards the end, when they were talking about him that she really cared about him. I just wish the two of them worked it out. I'm kind of hope that they do work it out in the next couple books.
The ending was extreme, I was afraid that Lizzie was going to die. I was glad when she found a solution, even though she knew it would hurt Jeremy in the end. I loved the very ending, glad that Drew & Lizzie finally got to be together. I can't wait for the next book. I want see what happens with Drew & Lizzie. I'm also interested to see what happens with Chelsea and Jeremy as well, if they find a way to work things out, or not.
I can see myself reading this book multiple time. Michelle has a bring career ahead or her, and she's a complete sweetheart as well, with a lot of talent. This book, she actually inspired me to finish my own book I been writing. This is one of best love stories I have read, I would recommend it to everyone. You won't regret it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2011Lizzie Davenport thought she had everything she wanted. A best friend who she knew she could count on, a boyfriend that she had known practically her entire life - even if he started to change and not for the better - good grades and a mom who trusted her.
She was happy. And she couldn't imagine her life being any different. That is until she laid eyes on Andrew Carmichael. In that briefest of moments, her world was turned upside down, and everything she thought she wanted paled in comparison to just how much she wanted him.
Seeing Drew brought back memories of a past that wasn't her own, of a time long ago and a place she had never before seen.
She didn't think she was going crazy. It must all be some kind of daydream. But if that were true, then why did Drew's mere presence make her feel like she had known him forever, make her skin tingle and make her heart race? And why did it seem like the same was true for him?
***
Remembrance is an enchanting story about love and second chances and trying to defy a tragic fate that seems doomed to repeat itself.
From the moment Liz sees Drew for the very first time, she knows that everything has changed. Seeing him is like coming home. And for an instant she thought he might have felt the same. But when he chooses instead to treat her as if she were nonexistent, and seems to only have eyes for her friend Chelsea, she is shattered.
Because for Liz everything is different. And all she wants is Drew. Even if he doesn't want her. Because seeing him reminds her of another time, another place, another her.
And when she suddenly knows things she couldn't possibly know and can do things she shouldn't be capable of doing, she suspects that Drew might have the answers she needs. But with her life on a collision course with destiny and with time running out, unless he's willing to reveal his secrets, their second chance just might be their last.
Author Michelle Madow has written a captivating story of a love that is strong enough to transcend time and break free from death's hold.
Her main character Liz is sweet and incredibly likable, and is a great contrast to her best friend Chelsea and her possessive and demanding boyfriend Jeremy.
Drew is that wonderful combination of sexy, mysterious, moody and at times cruel, with just enough of a protective, kind and lovable side to keep him from being too much of a bad boy.
The story moves quickly, possibly a bit too quickly at times, but will keep readers engaged with the characters and plot as secrets are revealed, giving readers brief glimpses into an idyllic past set in the time and place of Jane Austen.
Remembrance is a book that's so easy to get lost in and one that fans who believe in destiny, love stories and the idea that two people who are meant to be will transcend time to be together once more, will find simply magical.
On a personal note:
What a sweet and adorable story. I absolutely loved escaping into it this past week. It was such a quick and easy read.
I love stories about reincarnation and the preface was intriguing and sexy and I couldn't wait to catch up to its location in the story and discover what came next.
Drew was gorgeous, mysterious and absolutely frustrating at times, but when all is revealed his behavior makes sense.
And then there was Lizzie, who was incredibly sweet and nice - way too nice for her boyfriend Jeremy who was kind of a jerk and her friend Chelsea who seemed much too self-absorbed to be called a good friend.
I was slightly hesitant about reading this book after hearing it was inspired by a music video. Also it was a contemporary, but one that didn't appear to have that crushing or devastating moment I usually like to see. But I was charmed by the love story and intrigued by the reincarnation aspect so I wanted to give it a try. And I was completely ensnared.
I would have loved to learn a bit more about Drew and Lizzie's past lives and Lizzie's present life before Drew, which would have slowed the pace a bit and given me time to stay in those moments a little longer. But their absence didn't take away my smile or make the story any less delightful or heartwarming.
I won't reveal whether there is a happy ending for Liz, you'll just have to read it yourself. However, I will tell you that I spent the entire read wishing and hoping that things would end happily for Drew and Lizzie.
And of course I just have to mention that I loved that the author gave the characters in the past the same initials as their counterparts in the present - and not just the two main characters.
This was such an entertaining and utterly adorable book and I can't wait to read more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down. Incredible read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical!
I had been seeing this book around for a while and knew it was based around the Taylor Swift music video for Love Story and quite frankly I don't know what took me so long to read it considering I absolutely adore that video.
Luckily it really lived up to my expectations and I flew through it, the story is about a young girl named Lizzie who feels incredibly drawn to the new transfer student Drew at her school, its kind of like she really knows him and she can't stop thinking about him. The trouble is she already has a boyfriend Jeremy but their relationship is starting to feel a little stale so I think this makes her even more attracted to Drew.
There are some gorgeous flashback scenes in this book between Lizzie and Drew which I don't want to give away but if you think of the Love Story video you can imagine what I mean. It all just feels so romantic, magical and like a fairy tale.
As soon as I finished this I downloaded the next book in the series, I am eager to know where the story goes. I was very impressed with how well written this book was as well, I know self published books can be a bit hit and miss but this one was of a very high standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating! :)
Remebrance is the story of a love that transcend time. Elizabeth(Liz) is just your average girl and happy with her long term boyfriend Jeremy and her best friend Chelsea, until school starts again and she meets Drew: From the moment Liz first sees him, she feels drawn to him. He feels so familiar to her, but then he starts dating Chelsea..?!
In fact I have to admit, that I love those kind of stories. Being reincarnated and finding each other again is just soo romantic :)!! So Remembrance did probably have a head start with me lol.
Even though the plot doesn't seem really original, since their past live is fitting the concept of "Forbidden Love" like in "Romeo and Juliet"(and there are so many others I could mention here now) and being reincarnated is nothing new either, I still really enjoyed reading about Liz and Drew.
I simply wanted them to be together so badly! Although it kind of made Liz look bad, stealing her best friends boysfriend and so on.. (view spoiler) In fact I have to admit I didn't like Jeremy either. >.<
Overall there didn't happen a lot in Remembrance, but it still was such a nice and captivating read, so I'm definitely looking forward to read more about Liz and Drew!! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely sweet young romance
This was a lovely tale of past lives and how love transcends time. Lizzie is happy, she has her best friend Chelsea and boyfriend Jeremy. Although things have been great Lizzie feels like something is changing, then the reason walks into her class. Drew and Lizzie are connected although neither does anything about it, they share some moments but these leave her confused. Lizzie then realises that she remembers Drew from her past life and that they are destined to be together. Drew tries to push her away but finds that he can't help his feelings and doesn't want to hurt her. Things are made worse by Jeremy and Chelsea. This was a great sweet romance with some interesting twists. Lizzie is a nice character but I sometimes found she lacked some back bone when it came down to the people around her. Jeremy constantly puts her down infront of classmates and she accepts this, Chelsea is confident and manipulative, making sure things go her way. When they don't she fails to see reason. Hence the sequel. Drew is lovely, sweet even when he's trying to push Lizzie away. I enjoyed the sweetness of this and the idea for the story. The plot is good, the characters are great and the writing is good. Would recommend to any lovers of sweet young romance.

New Hampshire high school junior Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England ... but she doesn't know it yet.
Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she seem to get him out of her mind?
Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, the pair of them soon find that fighting fate isn't going to be easy.
Buchgestaltung'
Was mochte ich am meisten? Liz.
