Kiss Your Scars: A Dark Enemies-to-Lovers Gay Romance (Loose Ends Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 265 ratings

Being the king of Atlanta’s underworld used to have its perks, but lately, all undercover agent Renzo Vega has seen is the downside. Someone is auctioning off women in his city, and he’s damn sure not about to let that offense stand. Just as he’s set to make a move, Renzo’s club is ambushed and he’s shot. Unsure of whom to trust, he turns to the one man he definitely knows wants him dead. Yanked from his bed, blindfolded, and spirited away in the middle of the night, Lowell Scott is shocked to find the darkly gorgeous Renzo bleeding and in need of his help.

The very last thing he wants is to come to the aid of the man responsible for his cousin’s death, but the knife at his throat doesn’t give Low many options. Close proximity doesn’t temper the hatred Low harbors for Renzo, it only brings up new problems. Like the vicious attraction Low struggles to control, and bullets that won’t stop flying. It’s a tough sell to believe there’s anything good in a man as unapologetically dangerous as Renzo. And even if Low could forgive the unforgivable, Renzo is still shadowed in secrets. When they’re exposed, those secrets will bring far-reaching consequences that could sever not just their shaky bond, but Low’s family ties as well.

This is book three in the Loose Ends series but can be read as a standalone.
Tropes include: enemies to lovers, angst, multicultural/interracial romance, mild Daddy kink

A Grenadian transplant, Avril now lives in Tucker, GA, with a madly tolerant husband. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who’s pretty meh about reading and school. Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing the plot points of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother.

Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. She’s been nominated for numerous awards, including Best Author, Best series (Brooklyn Sinners), and Favorite All-Time Author. In 2013 Avril won Evernight Publishing’s Reader’s Choice Award for the LGBT (Male/Male) category. Recently she took home the Golden Ankh award for best Male/Male romance for her bestselling novel, Sinner’s Fall.

Addicted to cake, the ID Channel, and the UFC, Avril writes Gay and Erotic Romance with happy endings; she remains a believer of love in all its forms.

Avril Ashton is a dirty, dirty girl. I like that about her! This the last Loose Ends story (boo!) but another spinoff will feature some secondary characters in this story (yay!). Low’s character was great and I enjoyed learning a tiny bit about Grenadian culture. I’m going to Google more but the vocabulary and cadence of speech was handled wonderfully in the narrative. I also loved the connection between Renzo and Syren Rua from the Brooklyn Sinners series. Having names and people from past series woven into other stories is something I look forward to.

Much like previous stories, there’s a dark and painful history that drives Renzo and he carries secrets about Low that he can’t reveal. Also like previous stories, is the consuming, passionate connections that draw these men together like magnets. Then there’s the raw, filthy sex scenes that nearly melt my reader. Holy shnikes! I’ll never stop enjoying the author’s particular style and brand of storytelling, the cops and criminals in lust and the racially diverse cast of characters rarely present in erotic romance.

Such a great, gritty and angsts story. I loved Low and his willpower to try to resist Renzo, but I was wrapped up in Renzo and his persistence. Two men come together in the worst of ways with one who has a broken past and the other so involved before he even realizes.

Renzo's pursuit of Low is emotional, sweet and bloody. Having brushed passed him once, he knew who would be the one to pull him out of the constant need for light.
And one thing Avril Ashton's characters have in common is that when they lay their sights on someone they do anything to get them.

And from the moment they know each other the air is on fire whenever they are close, and did it ever sizzle.
I'm on a mixed opinion about the Daddy kink, not because I don't like it but because I'm not sure I saw it fit in. But it doesn't go beyond bedroom talk.

Together they were lovely and I liked Dax's role in all of this, and of course Syren who makes his appearance known, and we get some missing pieces fit in after his book. I always love seeing our men again from other books. Specially since I don't follow the series, I jump from the latest to the oldest books.

This series(along with the others tied into it) are tied with another as my favorite. It is entertaining and different. The the thought put into intertwining so many characters and keeping them all "straight" 🤣 must be a nightmare but the author does it so well. And as each book goes the writing gets better and better. I will definitely continue with this author into the next series. Loved it as always.

    Great ending to the series!

I have read all of Avril Ashton books and she keeps on upping the ante every single time. Renzo after going so much pain in his life gets a chance to be happy with Low and for that he will do anything to protect him and ensure that he is in his life. This story made me so damn emotional, there was so much pain in my heart on reading about Renzo but Low being in his life, soothing him and loving him, damn Daddy, it made me so freaking happy. Definite recommend.

I admit I've taken my time with Avril Ashton. I'm glad for it. Her books can be really heavy.
I absolutely loved reading Renzo and Low. I'm Probably biased with the 'daddy' theme, but still it just suited them and it was raw, intense and it scorched me!
And ofcourse Syren's appearance was a must in Renzo's story and its all full circle. I really enjoyed this one.

Avril excels at this kind of book. Light shining through darkness, intense relationships and broken but beautiful characters. Loved it, but sad it’s the last in this series. These books are like no other and it’s a privilege to read them. I look forward to her next series.

That was a lot of things; intense, scary, sad. But damn, was it steamy!

I loved Low so much and only wanted the best for him. Which honestly, probably isn't Renzo. But I couldn't help but crumble for poor Renzo. So yeah, I just wanted these two boys to stay loving each other.
