Editorial Reviews

Review

It was a passionate tale of trauma, angst, second chances, self-discovery and healing as well as a reminder that with love we can overcome anything. We highly recommend Repaired; so beautifully written and encompassing everything we love to find in books; what we love to feel in books. Totally Booked

Repaired was an emotional heartbreaking story, about two men who were scared about the past and what the future may hold. But together they would face the future head on no matter what obstacles they encounter along the way.
Swoonworthy Books

Repaired was a beautiful and heartbreaking story about two men that needed to be repaired. I laughed, got hot and bothered and cried. The best combo!! Two Book Pushers

Collins has taken my heart and mind on a wonderfully yet heart wrenching journey of love. For the Love of Books

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it's been a dream.

Her passion for writing didn't start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn't long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa's brain and The Love Series was born.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book since Melissa first mentioned that she had an idea. I loved both Let Love Live and On Solid Ground so I knew this would be an amazing book.

    She did not disappoint.

First of all, you should know that this book is a M/M book about love at it’s most real. I love M/M books because the emotions seem so much more real and the character depth is just so much greater. In the first 10% of the novel came one of my favorite thought quotes from the whole book. Parker was talking about coming out to his parents as a gay man while in college and how difficult it was for him.

I never understood how who you loved made a difference in the person you were, but apparently, there were people out there far less open-minded than me.

Parker is a lawyer in his father’s firm who has dealt with distant parents his entire life. Liam is a mechanic at a local shop who ran away from home as a teenager because he couldn’t deal with his life any more. Parker grew up very wealthy and never knew what it was like to want for anything. Liam grew up with two working parents who struggled to make sure there was food to eat and a house to live in. (((And when he ran away from home, he lived on the streets for some time and often didn’t know if he’d get another meal.)))

As opposite as these two appeared on the outside, their connection and similarities were too great to ignore.

Their connection was so strong that they didn’t even have to physically touch each other to really impact the other. Parker was exactly what Liam needed and Liam provided something for Parker that he’d never had before. I was rooting for them from the very beginning.

My only problem with the book - which was totally necessary for character development and to make the story better in the end - was that Liam was constantly hiding things about himself from Parker. I wanted him to open up and really share his story with Parker so they could help each other. I felt like Parker was always there for support, but it took Liam forever to lean on Parker as much as he should have.

But once Liam started thinking about opening up, the story only got better.

Maybe if I let him in, let him repair my cracks while I helped repair his, we might just be able to make it work.

And not much later, Parker tells Liam how his quiet strength has impacted Parker’s life.

“Because you’ve made yourself a part of my life. Whether you know it or not, your quiet strength has helped me start to fix some of my broken pieces.”

I love Melissa’s books because she obviously writes with a great deal of passion. She creates characters that are so easy to fall for and so easy to love. Every time I read one of her books, I immediately want to go into my Kindle and hug them. And their depth and dimension is so much more than many other authors ever give.

I absolutely love Liam and Parker and hope that Melissa will give us just a little more from them sometime soon. They are a couple that will forever live in my heart in a very happy little corner.

    4 stars!!

“I knew he was never going to be the person who completes me. He was the person who helped me realize that I was complete on my own, flaws and all.”

I do love M/M books and I can’t for the life of me remember why I was so apprehensive when I dived into my first many moons ago. There is something about the connection in these books that melts my heart, everything is more intense and it is for this reason that I am an M/M addict. This was another one of those reads, that intense connection, it gave me the flutters and once again I was championing these two men.

“I’d tried for so long to hide that same look, that same anger at being trapped in a life you’d give anything to escape.”

Liam and Parker were as opposite as opposite can be, but then we all know that saying how opposites attract...even though their first meeting was far from smooth, even then I felt that sizzle, saw them fireworks and you just knew that if these two ever got together it would be intense and I was so right, this was intense.

“You’ve got a simple choice here. Accept him for who he is and what he had or use who he is to push away from him. What you choose says a lot more about yourself than it ever will about him.”

Liam was a runaway and throughout the book you are trying to figure out why and what he was running from, you have an idea but nothing is truly revealed until a pivotal moment and the build up to this stopped my heart. It was heart breaking. Liam was lucky, he was found, starving, dirty and desperate and was taken in by a man that had the hugest heart and became Liam’s one and only friend. He gave Liam a job and a job that Liam has remained in for over ten years. Their friendship is strong and he is the father type figure that Liam never had.

“Running away is never the easy choice...it means you must have had a really good reason for doing so and you were brave enough to do something about it.”

Parker is a lawyer, a lawyer that is a partner in his father’s firm. A man he doesn’t get on with, a man who hardly recognises him, a man who really despises him, a man who just sees him as a regret as a mistake. Parker tries so hard to make his father love him, respect him, it is heart breaking and when the real feelings finally come out, it was truly devastating.

“All I could focus on was that the man before me, who was once so afraid of what the future held, was now grabbing it by the reins and making it his b***h.”

Both of these men crave acceptance, they each have their issues, Liam more so than Parker but Liam is reserved, he is a hard nut to crack, he requires perseverance and thank god that Parker had the patience of a saint. Parker, in the beginning came across as the cocky, arrogant arse that you would expect from a lawyer, he does himself no favours, but underneath that false bravado is an extremely endearing man. Liam himself has a façade to break down and once Liam and Parker find the men underneath, sparks fly and they were truly amazing together. Sometimes you can just tell, you know that moment when you know they are “the one.” This really came across in this story; you knew this was the be all and end all for these two. Neither were looking for it, but it hit them over the head and in the heart anyways and while they have their issues to work through, they both took the time.

“He didn’t only need to give up control, he needed to give it to someone who could be responsible enough to take it, yet caring enough to earn it.”

I loved how these two discover each other, the time they take to “find” each other, that voyage of discovery. It is slow; it is intense and was truly beautiful. Issues that take time to break down, deal with and finally put away, that giving and receiving of complete trust, that handing yourself over, mind, body and soul. It was real, it was tangible, I felt every brick come down and with every one your heart beats that bit quicker. I was willing these two on, I wanted them to succeed.

“Because you’ve made yourself a part of my life. Whether you know it or not, your quiet strength has helped me start to fix some of my broken pieces.”

We have dark pasts that are dealt with sympathetically and empathetically, men that have never felt loved, never felt wanted and at times this was heart-breaking. This book may contain triggers for some but as I said above, it was not done for gratification, it felt like a real story, panning out before your eyes. My only little critique was that I felt one piece of the puzzle fell a little too conveniently, but overall this was an extremely addictive read. A book that once I started, I couldn’t stop until the last word was read. I had tears and I had smiles but at the end I knew that I read a great book, a story that I will remember and one that I loved wholeheartedly. I highlighted so much of this book; I love this author’s voice.

Another book that have received enough reviews already, but I'll add to the pile.

It's actually quite touching story written in a nice manner. Even if it left me with a question of the psychological nature.

Liam is a runaway. He felt at that time that he had no choice. And perhaps he really did not have. His maternal uncle was using him as his personal sex toy. The encounters were escalating, reaching breath- and knife play by the time Liam had left. The abuser was obviously very manipulative, leading Liam to believe that running away was his only option.
A decade later he has not yet recovered wholly, not willing to trust, not easily at least.

Parker is living seemingly a privileged life. Son of a well-to-do owner of a large lawyer firm, he is a capable lawyer himself. But he struggles, because his father has no love, no respect for him, belittling him in front of his co-workers.

Bit-by-bit the two men fall for each other - not so much completing each other than rather repairing each other. Parker is the more determined one, a bit more dominating, just the kind of man Liam needs. Meeting Liam and revealing Liam's past, helps Parker to take the necessary steps to free himself from the yoke of his father. Parker's love helps Liam to, at last, accept that nothing of what has happened to him was his fault. Together they can build a better future.

The question I was left with was about Liam's needs. He seemed to want the same things he had hated his uncle for doing to him (specially the breath play). It somehow does not add up for me.

This was an excellent book. The characters and story line were the focus and the sex added to the evolving friendship and love between these two me. Both men showed bravery they didn't know that they had and it was a pleasure to see them growing together. Neither gave up when there were hiccups but allowed the relationship to grow. I highly recommend.

"I never quite understood how who you loved made a difference in the person you were, but apparently there were people far less open-minded than me."
    - Repaired by Melissa Collins

I absolutely love that quote because, well, it's true. It doesn't make a difference in a person, I think. Anyway, that said I'd like to dive into how I think Melissa Collins wrote a touching, heart-warming, steamy novel that didn't leave me wanting (but maybe panting...)

I won't deny it... She did a great job making me want to rush through the pages to find out how it ends. It's something good, especially since I actually paced myself to NOT rush through the pages. You know what I mean. In my mind that book wasn't supposed to end. Like ... ever. Parker and Liam have so much chemistry, it's crazy. It made me want to lose my tie just so I can breathe a little easier. I don't wear ties. Hell, I'm not even a man and boy, I was affected. Haha, a lot women love M/M I recently read. Yeah, I'm one of them.

This book had heart, which is what I think matters in a world where suddenly the most important thing in teasers and such is sex. Yeah, we had sex, and it was hot and sexy and amazing, but that's not ALL this is about. Those two guys struggle with who they want to be, who their surroundings want them to be and they are more than a little shaped by their past. For one of them it's a past that is hard to overcome. Boy, there were so many feels in this book! UGH!

I am more than a little glad I bought this book and I swear, I will shove it into the faces of all the people I know and consider brilliant enough to see how epic this book is.
If you are into M/M (YES, TWO guys) you will not regret spending any money on that book. I'm so gonna put it on my shelf one day.

I look forward to read many many many many (many) more books by this lady. Simply great. This book gets 5 of 5 book-boyfriends!

(P.S.: Just for the fun of it one more quote I floved:

"No," I grumbled. "Just the same old s***." "Oh, you men more of him being right and more of you being stubborn?"

Wow. I'm fairly new to the world of MM only having read a few but I'm a massive fan of Melissa's I knew I had to read this book just because it was Melissa's book but wondered how she would pull it off but as soon as I started reading I knew she hadn't gone wrong and I'd made a great decision in trusting she would pull this off with style as usual Melissa takes you through an array of emotions in her writing when we first meet Liam he is a 17 year old runaway with a hardened exterior if Paulie hadn't found him and taken him in it would have been a different story when he first meets Parker they eye each other off with their stubbornness something in both of them breaks and a steady friendship develops and Parker is able to crack that hardened exterior and from their the rest is history. A great read and as the subject of the story is a very emotional one that contains child sexual abuse I think Melissa has done a great job of delivering the subject matter. Congratulations Melissa you are fantastic author that I will continue to support for many years to come.

I enjoyed Liam and Parker's story.

Liam's story was so heartbreaking...and painful to read. Parker's experience was less horrific but still so sad. Both were men damaged by people that were supposed to care for them, and circumstances outside of their control.

The book takes us on their journey...finding in each other the support and love needed to move past their harsh beginnings, 'repair' the damage, become the men they're meant to be, and have a future that they deserve.

    Recommended MM Romance Read.
