Rescue: A grumpy/sunshine MM alien romance (Rescue Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 713 ratings

Kipexo is a battle-wounded commander just trying to return to active duty. To get him back to the front lines faster, his friends suggest he adopt an Earthling, a rescued human from the dying planet Earth. He thought he’d be getting a simple servant ready and willing to lend a helping hand, but from the day Ethan arrives, it becomes clear Kipexo got a whole lot more than he bargained for.

Ethan doesn’t know a word of Kipexo’s language, can’t follow even simple instructions, and seems bent on disobeying his new master at every turn. As Kipexo struggles to tame his new Earthling, he’s torn between the urge to punish Ethan and the desire to hold him close. When he learns Ethan has some scars of his own, Kipexo wonders if he should find the human a more suitable master or simply give in to temptation and take Ethan to bed.

I'm not one to typically write a review. I normally click the stars and move on. I believe this series deserves a written review. I wish I could give this series more than 5 stars. I didn't know what to expect. I've read this genre plenty and it's always unique. The uniqueness of this series is on a whole other level. I love that there is a plot and it isn't all about sex. It keeps your eyes glued to the pages. I could not put this book down for the life of me and when I did it's all I could think about. The skill to be able to write such a unique and unpredictable book is astounding. This is the best book I've read in a long time and trust me I've read lots. It's definitely worth your time. Thanks to the author for all the effort they've put into this for our entertainment.

The Raugon are a species of four-armed, armor-plated aliens from the planet Raug that have recently begun rescuing humans from a dying earth, placing them in Raugon homes to work and live as companions and servants. But are these aliens really their saviors, or captors? And are their humans truly companions, or slaves? These are some of the questions asked by Mx. Alex’s Rescue.

Our point-of-view character is Kipexo, a member of the aforementioned Raugon and a battle-wounded soldier recently removed from active duty. Unable to fully care for himself due to his leg injury, he is encouraged to adopt one a human to assist him around the house, and is paired with our other main character, Ethan. Though the two are bristly at first, they soon learn they have more in common than they realize. Without revealing any spoilers, I want to applaud Alex for the representation these characters bring to the genre.

One thing I will say that I liked right off the bat is that the story is told from the perspective of the dominant character, Kipexo, rather than the submissive, Ethan. This is not all that common in the romance and erotica genres, and as a dominant myself, is one I enjoyed connecting and identifying with. The author, Mx. Alex is also a dominant, and I really appreciated being able to read the story through their lens.

The erotica is well written and builds up nicely over the course of the book. As all Raugon prefer their sex kinky, so are all our sex scenes. The author goes above and beyond to make consent between the two characters clear, by having Kipexo explain safewords and other BDSM best practices before each scene. At times this did seem to almost make the scenes drag a bit, having to re-establish consent at the start each time, but I understand the importance of showing this to the audience.

I did feel like there was something of a missed opportunity in the story. I am not in any way trying to imply that things are not fully consensual between Kipexo and Ethan. However, were this scenario real, then it truly could not be consensual. When Kipexo meets Ethan, he has been beaten and abused at his previous Raugon homes, and we are told a much worse fate could await him should things continue to go poorly. Though I do not doubt Kipexo’s intentions for a second, I could not shake the idea that as Ethan does not know or fully trust Kipexo, he could have only agreed out of fear of reprisal. I would have appreciated the two characters talking about this at some point, or at least Kipexo acknowledging it, if only just to put some of the audience’s minds at ease.

Sadly one, another thing that was also lacking in the story was worldbuilding. For a sci-fi novel, I had hoped for a bit more description of the settings and the characters, ways to show the differences between life on Raug and Earth. We do get nice details on what our characters look like, as well as their feathery pet Dex, but other than that, things are described in a very human fashion, if at all. Because of that and the way human names are used for everything, it left me painting a mental picture of essentially a place just like earth, but with aliens and spaceships.

While the major focus of the story is obviously on the developing relationship of our main characters, there is also a fully developed plotline running throughout the book. I love when my porn comes with a good story, and I was happy when my feelings that there was something deeper going on beneath the surface at the start paid off. The book does end on something of a cliffhanger; though we gain the answers to many of our questions, there are still a few revelations dangled just out of reach at the end. The sequel, Surrender, is already out, and I am looking forward to reading more. Thank you, Mx. Alex!

Wow. I didn’t know what to expect from this book, and I thought it was a spicy alien romp in space. Yes, there are some excellent spicy scenes, but this book is so much more than that.
When Kipexo is badly injured on a mission, his friends keep suggesting he adopt a human. His life has become disorderly, and he needs help around the house. When he agreed, he’s offered an earthling with a bad history. He’s been put up for rehoming twice, and Kipexo is his last hope. Kipexo quickly discovers what’s been seen as obstinance is a disability, and he’s determined to help. As Kipexo makes the effort with Ethan, he blooms under his care. But Kipexo also sees there’s much more to Ethan’s past, and most of it is awful.
Kipexo and Ethan’s bond is really beautiful, and there’s so much more going on than their romance. Kipexo is learning that everything he’s known about his planet might not be true, and he cannot turn a blind eye.

This book was so enjoyable and the author does an excellent job at making you aware of the TW’s so make sure you are checking them beforehand.

This is a mm alien romance, I wouldn’t say full blown enemies to lovers but maybe dislike/like. Our Human is fearful, obliviously with good reason. It also rep of characters with disabilities.

There are some bdsm/bondage scenes. I appreciate the consent Kipexo and Ethan’s relationship had, which I believe cannot be said for all of the earthen’s on this planet.

The overall vibe of this book felt like modern day Aliens, if that makes sense like aliens in an urban setting. which I didn’t dislike I just wish that I could’ve been more submerged into the world with some more world building but the plot and the love story was amazing🖤. And the way that the book and dad has me so nervous to read book two but this is one cliff I’m not willing to leave hanging. 🧗🏽‍♀️

Wow! I had no idea what this book would be like when I decided to take a chance on it. Boy, was I ever surprised. This book is totally addictive and thoroughly engaging. About halfway through you start to suspect what might be going on but it doesn't diminish the buildup in the intrigue and excitement. The personal growth of the MCs and their relationship is like the chain that binds everything together. I loved reading about MCs that aren't physically perfect and how they actually use their disabilities to further the relationship. There's romance - of a sort - and definitely a fair amount of heat 🔥🔥, but it's all layered in a truly unique and captivating storyline. There's definitely a cliffhanger but it's done in such a way that you aren't completely left hanging. More of a tentative HFN. I absolutely adore a good sci-fi story and combined with the MM element and this book is already a favorite. I can't wait to see what the author has in store in the next book and I will absolutely be one-clicking it as soon as it's available. Just so good!

    Well Damn!
I enjoyed this way more than I thought, I’m not a huge sci-fi fan but I really enjoyed reading this one.
I liked the characters and the story was compelling yet I felt that the world building could have been more, I felt it was just describing earth but calling it Raug and I couldn’t get a clear picture of what the aliens really looked like but otherwise an really enjoyable short read.

Ethan was “rescued” from Earth and bought to Raug in the pretence of having a better life, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Kipexo has been severely injured whilst on active duty an after months of struggling decides to adopt a earthling to serve.

Kipexo is enamoured with Ethan and just wants him protected, safe and happy.
As secrets are revealed and Kipexo finds out how Humans actually came to Raug by being kidnapped he decides to try and make changes and I can’t wait to see how that will play out in the next book.

HFN for the relationship of the characters but a small cliffy for the overall story arc.

Honestly I enjoy myself a sexy book as much as everybody else, but this was just too much and it got really repetitive to the point I kept skipping the scenes. The plot was good which makes it even more of a shame that a book thats already this short was drastically further shortened through all the sex scenes. Besides cliff hangers are fine - to a degree. Here it really just feels as thoigh the author wrote one book and decided to sell two. Again quiet a shame, this would have been so mich better as a little more serious book with 300 pages or so instead of two mostly pornish books with not even 200 pages...

Normally I’m not one for these types of stories, but the author drew me in from the first line and never let go. There was just enough suspense from both areas of the characters’ lives that kept me hooked. I couldn’t put this book down. It was so well written and I immediately fell in love with the characters. So glad I bought this book. It’s definitely a new favourite.
