Rescue (Wild at Heart Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 460 ratings

“No one’s ever pretended to date me before.”

Twenty-seven-year-old virgin Nolan has always struggled to get a date--until his cousin tries to embarrass him by buying one at auction. Wildlife sanctuary veterinarian Finn is gorgeous and kind, exactly the sort of man Nolan’s always wanted. But he’d never be interested, right?

Finn hasn’t been on a date in two years, and it takes getting auctioned off for the sanctuary to convince him to do it. But the guy he ends up with is cute, exactly his type, and turns out to be a kindred spirit. When he risks his own neck to save an injured animal, Finn knows he’s found someone worth keeping.

If not for his bully of a cousin looming over everything he does, Nolan could be the man of Finn’s dreams.

But will Nolan find the strength to break free of his cousin’s grip? Or is a safe and easy life better than pursuing his dreams?

Rescue is a complete gay romance and the second book in the Wild at Heart series, but can be read alone. It ends with a HEA and no cliffhanger, and contains: a Burmese python, the laziest Halloween costume ever, an injured otter, a shoebox full of adult toys, explicit sex scenes, and true love conquering all.

I liked "Sanctuary," the first book in this series, even though I was a bit annoyed of the gay4you aspect of it until it got more logical and sweet. On the other hand, I really like this one, not only because Finn and Nolan are both gay, but also because they have some interesting--and somewhat corresponding--issues with relationships which help them move along toward their own resolution.

Finn was the ever present veterinarian in the first book and Nolan is the newbie in here, trapped by his loutish and wealthy cousin (and boss) who bids on Finn at the animal sanctuary's fund raising auction and turns him over to 27-year-old virgin Nolan (whom I think is the cover boy). Oh, yes, this is going to work out just fine, eh?

Well, it does, and for the most part it's a smooth path to love everlasting with sanctuary owner May, Oscar and Ryan from the first book and Ezra from the next book interloping along. It's sweet and surprisingly sexy especially when it comes to the very inexperienced Nolan finally letting himself loose--what a hoot!

    On to the next one.

Great story with barely any angst. No jealousy or cheating. If you want a nice sweet read this is definitely a good one. I do wish a little more back story went into the mc’s. The one thing I really didn’t like about it was the overuse of the italic font. It kept me from fully engaging with the story.

I love Sean's book and this one is no exception!! His writing style is so amazing$. The characters feel so real I just want to join in their conversation! Finn and Nolan are so good together! I love that each one has doubts and insecurities but are trying to work through them. I loved it when Finn told Nolan that they worked together because they were two dorks and that was high praise. My favorite parts of their stories are when they both interact with the animals and how not only in sync with them but each other. I highly recommend this book!!!!

This one was just okay for me. I really enjoyed Sanctuary...and loved Finn's character. He deserved someone special. Everything between Finn and Nolan happened so fast and it seemed Finn was settling. When Nolan let his insecurities hurt Finn and he let him literally walk away....I was over Nolan in a big way. Too long of a delay and not enough groveling...at all really. Finn could do better. I have to admit....I did love the virginal and sexual discovery aspect. So, high and loss here but in the end, not really invested in this couple.

I think the best description of this book to me is that it is just a very sweet book. Nolan and Finn are both sweet guys, nice guys and both have their issues from the past. I liked Finn from the first book in the series, and continue to like him here, but I did like the first book better. There was a bit more angst maybe in the first book. I enjoyed this one though, as I do all of the books by this author and I would definitely recommend it! I received an ARC for an honest review.

I read Rescue in 6 hours, only stopping for lunch. What I love about all of Sean's books is the warmth, kindness and love we find in all his main characters and supporting charters too, except in this case, I had no sympathy for Gavin, Nolan's cousin. It is sad that an individual takes great delight in bringing other's down to make himself feel important.

I'm really happy Nolan stood up to him and made his own happiness his number 1 priority. I love the way too Oscar, Ryan and Ezra rally around Finn when he is hurting, giving him a warm hug and offer Finn words of wisdom and to look at the situation from Nolan's point of view, they are just not Finn's friends but his family also, along with aunt May. I'm happy to hear Ezra will find his Mr right in the next book.

This is a totally sweet and hot book. I did take a total dislike to Gavin, Nolan's cousin. When you read the book you'll understand why. Finn whom we met in the first book Sanctuary is back to totally fall in love. The angst in the story is not too heavy. The story is warm interesting, and of course, loving.

Who would have thought a charity auction would lead to true love? Great idea May it brought Nolan and Finn together and at the same time ruined Gavin's bullying tactics over Nolan. Thanks Sean for sharing this with us.

Sean Ashcroft has done it again! A hugely entertaining read, and more totally adorable characters. Nolan in particular is a total delight and his gradual unfurling is a joy to behold. Really looking forward to book 3.
