Resonance: A Rhythm of Love Novel (Rhythm of Love Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 743 ratings

I gave the rumor mill fodder for a lifetime the day I walked away from a lucrative music career without explanation.

Dan: People can talk all they like; my record stores are my lifeblood now, and I’m devoted solely to keeping them afloat in the digital age.

There’s just one little thing distracting me: an earth-dwelling sunbeam named Owen Harper.
I don’t know what I was thinking when I hired him. In fact, maybe I wasn’t thinking at all.

Quirky and excitable, he’s a walking, talking danger to fragile objects. His energy alone could power a small country. That’s never been my style.

And damn does he love to push my buttons.

He’s other things, too, though. Things that keep me up late at night.
Things that make me forget I’m supposed to be simplifying.
Especially after we end up falling into bed together. (Okay, it was a sauna).

I should have more regrets about that than I do.
That’s the problem.

Owen: Who the hell just walks away from stardom out of the blue? My boss, apparently, and I’m pretty sure he’s been in a bad mood ever since.

That should be enough to stop the pesky little crush I’ve developed.
Should be.

But the heart wants what the heart wants, I guess, and mine has decided it prefers the company of the walking storm cloud known as Daniel Grim.

Not that I plan on letting him know that anytime soon.

Resonance is the second book in the Rhythm of Love series, and can be read as a standalone. It’s a steamy slow burn bisexual age-gap, boss/employee romance with lots of banter and two obstinate heroes who really, really don’t want to want the very thing they both need.

"Neve Wilder has done it again, but even better! I am so infatuated with this story, and these character's. Owen and Dan have taken the top of my favorite couples this year! Their quirky back and forth, the endearing way they care for each other and love each other. Everything about this book was excellence from start to finish! If you like music, if you like the older somewhat jaded and kinda Grumpy MC and the sweet, lovable and quirky younger man, then this is your jam!" --WickedGoodReads

★★★★★
"I was intrigued by the blurb but literally was blown out of the water by this emotional book. It challenged my concept on what to expect but in the most wonderful ways. This was not the typical rock star story I was expecting. I was immediately absorbed in the men's lives and their differences fascinated me." --Bayou Book Junkie

★★★★★
"There's just something about Dan that got to me right away. I could almost hear his voice in my head, with a slow, smoky-sweet drawl that would melt your insides when he sang." --Love Bytes Reviews

Neve Wilder reads promiscuously, across multiple genres, but her favorite stories always contain an element of romance. Incidentally, this is also what she likes to write. Slow-burners with delicious tension? Yes. Whiplash-inducing page-turners, also yes. And every flavor in between.

She believes that love conquers all. Except the heat index in July. Nothing can conquer that bastard.

Absolutely charming!!! I couldn't put this sweet and funny slice of how wonderful love can weave such a colorful tapestry through your life unexpectedly! Dan is a beautiful soul full of grumpy energy. Owen is a breath of fresh air with so much vibrancy and love unable to stop his rambling mouth from giving so much of his himself away. Both sexy and lonely. The spark between them growing ever brighter. Both are so very well written they steal your heart! They will live rent free inside my brain for a long time!!!😘

I liked this one. I liked that there was no big misunderstanding or external impediment to their relationship; they were both a bit tentative, a bit cautious, and they were both at career crossroads, and that was enough to make them proceed slowly.
This is a slow burn, friends-to-lovers story featuring two complete opposites who are somehow great together. No big angst, no big misunderstanding/miscommunication, just a good romance story.

I have yet to not love a full length Neve Wilder romance, and I have a hard time envisioning a book of hers that I don't enjoy.

Resonance is a slow burn romance between an employer and an employee with an age-gap, but despite having two tropes that I don't really care for, usually, it managed to be so sweet and organic that it didn't bother me. The power imbalance was addressed and resolved, and the age difference wasn't overly underlined or made creepy.

The character were already familiar from Dedicated, and they really grew on me in this story. Both Owen and Dan were fully fleshed out characters that felt like real people. Often romance authors fall into the trap of writing caricatures of people for the sake of having the tools for hot sex scenes, but here the hot sex was just an added bonus.

While the romance is slow burn, the physical attraction isn't. And that's another thing I appreciate - authors not mixing up physical attraction for love. Also the fact that not all sex has to be penetrative. Seems obvious, but anyone who reads romance can attest to the fact that to some authors it isn't.

The pacing of this book was also on the slower side, and the conflicts were on the real life scale. When reading romance, you get the feeling that a character needs to have some huge trauma to be interesting or relatable, but to me the most interesting are the ones I could actually imagine knowing in real life.

This wasn't my favorite of Neve's, but it still one of my favorite romances of the year.

Can I get one more in? Loved. I loved this book. I really love Wilder's writing. It feels so natural. Like these are real people. The dialog is amazing and nothing feels forced.

There are a lot of secondary characters, but they work, for the most part (I was a little lost about some of the characters that show up for really no purpose - like some of the record store customers - but, I guess that's real life. People come in and out of our circle).

Even the water leak plot point felt natural. Some authors would have belabored the issue until it felt really manufactured. But Wilder just puts it out there like a natural progression of life events, without making a huge deal about it, and it just flows into the story (no pun intended). I think that's why the characters feel so REAL. Life just happens and they are dealing with it. So different from authors that rely on overused, ridiculous tropes like coincidence!teacher or coincidence!boss. Wilder's stories just ARE. They aren't artificial or contrived.

My biggest complaint is that Wilder doesn't write fast enough for me to jump right into Aiden's (and I presume Jessup's) story.

I liked this story. It was sweet and predictable but not in a boring way. Very comfortable and easy to read. The steamy scenes were full of chemistry. And there weren’t any tense misunderstandings or drawn out dramatics.
BUT from the very first meeting of Dan (with Les in book 1), he is called “old man” and immediately in my head I pictured a jolly old has-been with a bit of a beer gut and overgrown beard, think duck dynasty. Now plenty of times after that initial meeting the author tried to tell us that he was actually only 40’s and still in great shape, blah blah blah. It didn’t matter. The story context and character personality go along with a super old grandpa type and that is all I could picture.
I ended up putting this book down a dozen times before I finished it because my brain was tired of working overtime trying to picture Dan the “right” way.

Wilder could not have thought up a more fitting title for this novel. Just not possible. Resonance packs an emotional punch that I was wholly unprepared for, and which resulted in me sweet-talking my husband into going out to buy me comfort chocolate right away.

Dan and Owen had me completely wrapped up in their thoughts and feelings. I can tell there’s always going to be this nebulous longing to just keep following their story. Another cast of characters where I’m going to have to get over my disappointment that they’re not actually real- the kind that, for me, is a top mark of good writing. Skilled characterisation is the key to my reading heart.

Wilder has become a favourite of mine, and Resonance is hands-down my favourite Neve Wilder book.

This one compared to Dedicated?? As alike as chalk and cheese 😜. This was sooo much better than book 1 of this series [for me anyhoo], and I think it could probably be read as a standalone if you wanted, although you would be missing out on some of the backgrounds to various characters. This is a well-written, fairly angst-free zone story 🎉🎉🎉. 4.5 stars and 💜💛💙💚🧡 hearts from me.

A lovely slow-burn romance between Daniel, 40 something owner of Grim's record store in Nashville and former recording star, and his younger, ditzy employee Owen, whom I absolutely loved. Dan came with baggage aplenty, and although he was aware of Owen, thought it best to keep strictly to employer/employee rules, but he couldn't resist being pulled into Owen's orbit 😍... We have a teeny, tiny catch-up with Les and Evan of Dedicated, meet Dan's younger, seemingly waste of space brother Aiden, and get to know some of the artists that Dan calls friends although he is a fairly private guy.

Hope the next one is about Aiden and Jessup Polk...there should be fireworks. 😉

Talk about a character driven story, this is it. The growth of these 2 MCs, the way they are slowly but inexorably drawn together is lyrical. (I imagine the extensive musical references would tickle the fancy of some readers but they mostly went over my head). I don’t tend to go for ‘age gap’ stories but this really doesn’t focus on that at all. Barely registered. It was chemistry and finding each other, finding they fit better together than apart. Medium steam, sexy where it counts, over all just a thoroughly engaging read.

Don’t be like me, I nearly gave up in the early pages. This is such a lovely, warm, heartfelt, sexy, feel good read I loved it. Not quite as much as book 1 that I didn’t want to end. I do love Neve’s writing, her construction differs from many other authors in my humble opinion

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow Burn with Hot Couple

I really enjoyed Nene Wilder's new novel Resonance. I hadn't read the first in the series, and while it seems some characters had already been introduced it can definitely stand alone (although I now want to go back and read book one!). The story centres around Owen, a young aspiring song writer with a colourful and upbeat nature, and his slightly grumpy record-store-owning boss Dan. Dan was famous as a country music artist in his youth but walked away from the career, holding on to much of his past in memorabilia he has at his shop. Surprisingly, it is bouncy Owen who seems to carry more baggage. This is a slow burn romance and it takes a long time for the two protagonists to move beyond casual hookups and work relationships, but when they do it is full force. For a longer book I did find a bit lacking - a few things weren't quite cleared up (although maybe that will happen in future books), and I would have liked to see a bit more of their developing relationship that was hinted at in the epilogue. Overall solid book with a sweet romance and really endearing characters.
