Retro Maiden: An Axis World Adventure (Axis World Adventures Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

A lot of love. A ton of hopepunk!

ReM has never met another human. At least, none she can remember. The Creator Wars ravaged Earth, eradicating humans and their history. By the grace of the Fates, ReM survived. Thirty cycles later, she’s still hiding in plain sight, living amongst those who would slaughter her just for being
alive.

A bot suit can’t stop ReM from living, or from uncovering her island roots. Something came before Axis World, before war and death. She belonged somewhere, and scavenging with her bot partner, Gear, is the perfect cover to find out where.

On a routine hunt, ReM stumbles upon a band of bot pirates. They’re after something big. And she’s determined to get to it first. But chasing bot pirates proves a dangerous business. One likely to betray her biggest secret. She’s
human and one deadly truth remains: Machines run the world.

* Retro Maiden is a light read with sweet romance and a swashbuckling adventure. Each book set in Axis World can be read as a standalone, though some may find reading the series in order more fun!

Disa Dawn writes hopepunk and cozy supernatural adventures featuring daring heroines, mystical capers, and sweet romance. She’s known for her slick, snappy prose, diverse worlds, quirky plots, and happily ever afters. She’s the author of the Tennessee England series and the genre-bending saga The Seekin Trilogy.

Loved the concept of the book! Great characters and was easy to read.

I won't lie, it took me forever to read this book. It's not bad but the first part was....slightly boring. Once I got really into it then I was hooked! Everything was great, the plot, the characters, the plot twists.....and then the final arc came. You'd think a book with this many pages wouldn't be rushed but it was and that's why it's 4 stars not 5. And what hurt even more is that there was one scene in particular.....that happens 'off screen'. Seriously? I would have loved to have read how it happened instead of reading the main character go......dun dun look what I got here.

Retro Maiden, ReM. is a human, the only human she knows. She wears a robotic outfit and travels with her best friend, Gear, in their sub. There is an evil ruler and a thick fog no one must go into. There was a war between the humans and robots. Then very strange things begin to happen. A great read - hard to put down. This book was made available to me by the author through Voracious Readers.

I recieved a free copy from voracious readers. While I almost didn't finish this story since it started slow, I pushed on and was rewarded with an awesome story.

I enjoyed this book once I began to understand the world ReM grew up in. The life she had to live as the only human left in a world full of bots was not an easy one. After finding out there were more humans she must make some difficult choices. Her story and the other characters kept me enthralled. Loo forward to the next in series.

This was a free book via voracious readers, I don't usually read punk rock stories. I loved it. ReM is a salvage robot collecting and repairing junk from the sea.there are no humans left so she is told. Adventures include, pirates, a human man, bounty robots sent by an egotistical robot who wants to control the world. ReM is fearless in her fights as Is Gear her partner in the submarine. Exciting outcomes come with scary steps first. I'd encourage everyone to read this if you ever get a chance.

I was hooked by the free sample and had to read the full story. I read it in two sittings, the first was about a quarter of the book, the second the rest because I could not stop. I liked the characters, each a complete person. The setting was imaginative, if a bit grim, but is was a post-apocalypse story, so that fits.

Read the sample: if you like it even a little you will enjoy reading the entire thing.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Didn't know if I would enjoy this one as it's not my typical read, but it was worth the read.

Fast paced and engaging with a cast of fully developed interesting characters.

    Recommend.
