Rebecca lives near Britain's smallest city, St Davids, in the far west of Wales. Surrounded by stunning coastal and moorland scenery, she also loves to paint. She inherited her love of stories from her grandfather, who told stories with his hands: stories with colourful characters and unexpected endings. Her fascination with what makes people who they are, and the belief that life is many shades of grey, informs her writing. A Native American Indian proverb reads, 'Don't judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins.' Rebecca has based her life on this tenet: it is certainly core to her writing. 'We may not condone what a person does, but sometimes we can understand and maybe come to forgive.' In 2019, she won the IAN Fiction Book of the Year prize, the IAN Outstanding Historical Fiction prize, and the Readers' Favorite Gold Medal for Historical era/event Fiction.

Her books have been awarded Readers' Favorite 5-star reviews.

Well researched and well written. Since I had some of the background already, it was interesting reading the author's take on a few things. I'd recommend this one to anyone interested in the history of the Darian scheme. I'm not going to do a spoiler here. How Scotland got involved is interesting. The only thing I disagree with the author on is a personal comment at the end which had nothing to do with my enjoyment of the book.

Impressive storytelling from an author who knows her craft. If you enjoy getting to know characters and feeling at one with their extreme situations, this is a book for you. Ms Bryn enhances her meticulous historical research by producing not only entertainment but passive education for her readers.
When the Americas were a far away place and waiting to be discovered, there were folk in the British Isles who yearned to accept the challenge of discovery and settlement. Those who tackled the voyage across the ocean had their reasons, and likewise, so too did those who financed the trips. Not all trans-Atlantic voyages ended with a log cabin and a few acres of land because occasionally, the pioneers returned from whence they came.
In this tale, apart from the revenge highlighted by the title, you’ll find love, loss, fear, courage, betrayal, and much more besides. As with all of the author’s work, you’ll be absorbed rapidly by the plight of those in need, and the inhumanity and greed of those who have plenty. When those lives become interconnected in unexpected ways, within is a great story. Highly recommended.

Pirates with cutlasses and no compassion! Men with ambition and too much pride! A doctor forced the break his Hippocratic oath! A man who has six months to prove he can support the woman he loves before her father gives her to another! Scotland and England at loggerheads! A dithering queen...

Revenge is an historical novel based firmly in fact, and the characters stride the decks and live – or not. I love Ms Bryn’s novels, especially those set in the not-too-distant past, but this one is different, and the most enthralling of them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing historical moments to life

Bryn has an uncanny ability to get you into the mindset of her characters and make you feel you are living their lives with them. In the case of this book, those lives are very challenging. With two separate main plots with their own sets of characters, you are rooting for them all, but as she is true to the historical references she uses, not everyone can win. The intense rivalry between opposing factions in business and in politics in England and Scotland forms the backdrop to the drama which unfolds, and engulfs ordinary people in its midst. As always with her books, the interplay of the stories keeps the pace going and the reader wants to get back to each separate one. There are many touching moments in the book which are so well written. I admire this author and the way she brings history to life. Her meticulous research grounds the work but never overwhelms it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating tangle of lives and lies!

Tom, determined to marry the girl he loves, leaves his New Forest home and runs away to sea. From the scent of primroses to the taste of salt I was with him. He didn’t bargain on cargos of slaves. “They’re not human, Tom. They have no souls”.

Andrew, a skilled physician, treats so many charity cases in Edinburgh, he’s poor, so he’s tempted by the offer of work and a rich future as ship’s surgeon. Disease stalks Andrew, and unwittingly his efforts to heal patients pushes them closer to death!

Two men, two threads, and two nations – England and Scotland – on the brink of war, kept me guessing until it was all untangled at the captivating end of Revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars TAKEN BACK IN TIME

I had not reached the end of the first chapter when I was back in the 17th century in England. This author knows how to use her words to draw mind pictures and describe characters you care about and grow to love. I continued to read, ignoring meals, dishes in the sink and laundry. I was living during the reign of Queen Ann, walking the streets, sailing on the trade ships, struggling to build a settlement in Darien and listening to the court cases and travesty of justice. Great book, great story but I would expect less from Bryn as I grab every book she has written as soon as it is published. One of my favourite authors.
