Novel Revision Prompts: Make Your Good Book Great - Self-Edit Your Plot, Scenes & Style (Writer's Craft) Kindle Edition
Revising a novel is fun. With each change, you see your book grow closer to your vision and gain more power.
In this book, I offer you ideas on how to bring out your novel’s full potential. Play with them, experiment, explore where they’ll lead.
To help you find the kind of prompts you need right now, I’ve sorted them into three groups:
Plot Revision
Use this section if you have a first draft - perhaps after completing a NaNoWriMo sprint – and want to shape it into a powerful, emotion-rousing book.
.
Scene Revision
Here you’ll find ideas to transform dull, dragging scenes into riveting reads with tension and sizzle.
Line Editing
Before you indie-publish your book or submit it to agents, enhance your style with sharp writing and a strong voice, where every word pulls the reader in. The polishing prompts help make your book sparkle with diamond quality.
With each prompt, I’ll provide tips on how you can put the idea into practice. Interpret them creatively and adapt them to suit your unique story. If you’ve already applied an idea, or if it isn’t a good fit for your novel, skip to a different one. Pick the prompts that make you tingle with excitement.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2019There is no doubt that this book has something for everyone. For those of you who aspire to write and subsequently attract readers to your creations, this book is a must-have.
Rayne Hall has many books and I have yet to find one that is not useful. With the glut of poorly-written books (by well-meaning potential authors), “Novel Revision Prompts” fills a yawning hole that could save hundreds of thousands of books from being tossed on readers’ Did Not Finish piles.
This is an easy read, with each chapter taking about a minute to read. The book is helpfully divided into three sections of revisions: plot, scenes, and line editing. I read the book cover-to-cover, underlining chapter titles and related descriptions, noting the ones that I felt I could work on immediately to improve my own writing.
This is not a book to skim through and then file on the shelf. Ms. Hall’s book is a compilation of items that can’t help but improve your writing and increase the attraction factor of your book. Five stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2016In the last couple months I've been seriously seeking books to help improve my writing skills. I've purchased and read over 50 and of all of them Rayne is the best. I've read all of her books, own them all, and refer to them over and over.
Rayne puts things in plain simple terms, easy to read and understand, thus making it easy to apply the techniques. I really like not having to read through another author's bragging about themselves before getting to what I really need/want to know. In my opinion, every author should have all of Rayne's books on their shelves.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2016This is such a helpful book. If you're stuck, Ms. Hall gives great ideas. If your novel needs more 'umph' she has great suggestions too! I highly recommend this book. She has suggestions for scene revision, plot revision, and even line revision. Terrific help for any author, new or seasoned!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2018I write a lot of reviews and also write pulp fiction
(mystery, crime, horror).
So, I tend to look at books a wee bit differently than
most readers.
Very seldom do I give 5 stars, for reasons you can probably figure out.
I gave, Novel Revision Prompts, 4 stars, because of the page
after page of useful, easy to grasp information, the author put
into the book.
Every writer has, or will, face the "revision/rewrite/edit" phase
of the journey.
It is part of the process and you can not escape it.
All you can do is enjoy the time you will spend revising and
rewriting.
The tips and ideas in the book will make the task easier.
I have read and reviewed just about the whole series, Rayne
Hall has written, and I reread one book a month.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2016Another great writing book from Me. Hall. She gives before and after examples that help show the idea. I'll keep referring to this one each time I edit.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2016Awesome advice as always. Rayne rocks it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2020I greatly enjoyed the tips on certain words and phrases to eliminate, as they are filler words. These were at the end though, so maybe put the best part of the book in the front vs. the back (the best part of the book for me at least), would be my main critique.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2016Rayne's books do it to me every time. I rarely get more than a chapter or two into her writing craft books before she shows me something I've never seen before or triggers an epiphany that sends me scurrying to my current project, seeing it in a new light, and fixing something I didn't realize was broken until she pointed it out.
It doesn't matter which of the prompts you pick, you will something that will make you think about your plot, where you are and what you need to fix in your book. Using this book, along with Rayne's Word-Loss Diet, will take you a long way in polishing your manuscript. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Another masterpiece from this author. Easy to read and full of practical advice. I can't wait to read another title in this series. Excellent presentation. I enjoyed the illustrations. A "must have" text in every writer's library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vital check-list all in one place.
I have a few of Hall's books on my iPad and they make wonderful check-lists for editing. I'd give them five stars if there was slightly more content for the money - and there is a little repetition within the books. The kindle price is worth it, I think the print version would be a bit thin for the price.
