- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2018What a great first debut novel from this author. I was completely invested from the first page.
I loved the back story of Noah, gave us an insight into his life from early years to 17 almost 18 when Mac comes into his life.
"Mac" a US Marshall ex military, strong responsible loyal trust worthy Alpha male just the man to save Noah.
By no means is Noah a weak MC even as a teenager we see his resilience to the hell his young life had been.
Noah finds himself attracted to Mac early on & Mac also finds himself with feeling for Noah but Mac's inherent ethics & Noah's
age keeps things on the up & up while they live together in a safe house. An incident happens Mac moves on they don't see each other for a few years.
I don't want to give any more of the story away but I found it a roller coaster ride & the Noah Mac knew is nothing like the
older Noah that comes back into his life.Great drama/thriller with romance that burns hot! in the end.
Wonderful secondary characters can't wait for Noah's & Mac's teams stories.
I really enjoyed reading this book. When I buy a book I want to be entertained & this book did it for me.
I love that the males in this story are strong & look forward to the next one which I hope will be soon.
Well done Reese Knightley. Great cover.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018This is an enjoyable book. The beginning is staccato and a bit confusing. The timeline covered is several years and there are a lot of jumps. If you read through without any expectations, all of the opening will be expanded on and explained later.
Noah's mother is killed and he's taken into a compound run by his stepfather and a drug lord. There's also sex trafficking going on. He's in the compound for six years and there are highlights (or lowlights) of the horror.
Mac is a US Marshall who comes into the compound to take down the evildoers and rescue the victims. He and his team rescue almost all of the victims but the head guys get away. Noah's just a few months shy of 18.
Mac keeps Noah with him for about 2 years and then turns him over to another US Marshall. Another 5 or years passes, Unbeknownst to Mac, Noah has become an elite member of a super secret off-the-grid spy squad. Noah's bitter because he loved Mac and Mac rebuffed him. Mac's good reasons, Noah was a protectee and Noah was too young, seem like excuses to Noah.
They re-engage when the bad guys return to the playing field, having gotten a leak within the US Marshall's office. The US Marshall who took over Noah's care ends up dead.
Once the book turns to the present time, the pacing is good and there are a number of twists. It doesn't head in one direction with a surprise at the end. The plot keeps moving and the reader has to keep up. Don't read when you're sleepy!
There are several extraneous characters. They're probably introduced so they can come up later in the series but I found them distracting and unnecessary.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021Ricochet started out with abuse and drugs and using children to trafficking. It was sad and I can see the author trying to show how children can be treated so cruel. Noah mother was killed and he was forced to watch at eleven years old and the devastation to him. A stepfather who abused him. Noah had one friend Jenny who finally found a way to report the abuse of the children and how they were use to traffic their drugs to the FBI and US Marshals. During the raid Noah met Mac who was a US Marshal and who put him in witness protection. During the time he was in WITSEC Mac and Noah had an attraction but because of Noah age, Mac asked to be reassigned. Noah was so hurt and he took the pain to change who he was and became a powerful operative for a special government agency. Great story and I couldn’t put it down until the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2020Mac and Noah meet when Mac rescued Noah when he was younger and put him in Witness Protection. This book had so much action and adventure that it could easily be a TV movie. Plenty of characters to keep series flowing. For a debut book, I absolutely loved it. I was engaged from beginning to end. Highly recommend this series. HEA with an epilogue.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024I actually started one of this authors other series but thought I should start from the very beginning which am glad I did I enjoyed Mac and Noah’s story I just wish the father plot was fleshed out a bit more.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2024I know it’s part of the story but I’m not a fan of reading about abuse of children or animals. I did love Mac and Noah though and man did they have a rough road. Wondering what Noah will think when he finds out who his father is to him.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2021I enjoyed the book. I gave it three and a half stars due to the author's storyline having some flaws. They mentioned that Noah's dad was a very important man and his records were marked at birth with the FBI to keep track of him. yeah at the time of Noah's birth both his parents were 18 his dad was just going into the service but there would have been no need for Noah's records to have been marked at this time. His dad was a young kid just starting out. They also note that Noah's mom married Stevenson for stability yet again he was the same age as her. They went to high school together. Max parents kicking his sister out to her not dating someone within their religion yet there's no mention of Mac being religious or what his religion actually is. All the pieces of the puzzle just weren't fitting correctly. That being said I did enjoy all the characters and I'm curious to see where this series will lead them.

5.0 out of 5 stars So, so good. Absolutely Highly Recommended. 6 Perfect Stars.
Bloody hell, for a debut novel Ricochet kicked major butt. So, so good, this first book bodes well for a fabulous series, and the good news is there are a lot of team members in the Phoenix unit.
Noah, witnessed his mother’s death when he was a child, instead of being killed as well, he’s taken by the killers. Six years later, he saved from a hellish nightmare by US Marshall Robert ‘Mac’ McKenzie, when a joint raid between the US Marshal service and the FBI raid the ranch where Noah has been living under duress with his step father Rick Stevenson, and drug kingpin, Terrance Manning.
Stevenson is abusive, and Manning beyond evil, over the years since kidnapping Noah, the crime boss has been shaping Noah to take over as 2IC of the operation, and to ensure compliance uses brutal, methods against the young man. During the raid, Noah is rescued and taken into WITSEC care by Mac, pending the capture and trial against Manning and Rick Stevenson.
Mac, 9 years older than Noah, a bit jaded with love, is drawn to the brave younger man. Before he realises it he is completely smitten, but older, wiser, he remains professional, not only is Noah a minor, Mac is a Marshal and he needs to remain diligent, professional, and aware that the young man has had a difficult upbringing and dangerous men are out to kill his vulnerable young charge.
Noah, is tougher than he looks, he’s endured hell on earth and come out with a heart full of hope. It doesn’t take long for Noah to also become completely smitten with his sexy AF hero, and as innocent as he is he wears his heart on his sleeve. When things take an unexpected ugly and dangerous turn, and lives are lost, MAC completely distances himself from Noah as a means of further protecting the now 20 year old, not realising that by walking away, he’s breaking the young mans heart. Noah, realises that he needs to do ‘something’ with his life other than pine and sets out to change the course of his future.
What a fabulous, fabulous debut book. Smart, tight writing, great pace, amazing characters with so many layers to them, even the baddies get enough development to really make you hate them, and Knightly wasn’t skinny on words either, secondary characters also got a lot of love as well, certainly enough to make their stories interesting and a tease. Great world building, excellent plot, good research and use of LEA jargon and practices, terrific action scenes, especially the fight scenes, everything seriously was so well written. Editing was spot on and as you’d expect in this wonderful epic second chances gay romance, smoking hot sexy times between Noah and Mac when they finally get horizontal, plus a great epilogue and a well deserved HEA.
So, so good. I am literally chafing at the bit now for the next book. I hope and pray it comes out soon because I really, really want more of this fabulous new series, Absolutely highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.7
A nice start to the Out for Justice series. The villains in this story are something else, and almost create more damage than is believable. The US Marshals Witness Protection program saves genius Noah, and Marshal Mac reluctantly gives him up, due to his age. Noah becomes a force to be reckoned with in the Phoenix program and the two do not meet again until escaped killers Manning and Stevenson re-emerge, hunting Noah. He is now well past the age of consent and the love between him and Mac burns hot and toasty. Many interesting male and female characters are introduced, leaving us curious as to who will be featured next. A satisfying read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising start to the series
This was a great start to the series, and a promising debut novel for this author. The worldbuilding was well done, the characters likeable and well written, and the storyline intriguing - especially the agent/spy theme.
The book started out a little stilted, especially with the time jumps. We meet Noah at age 17 where he is rescued by Mac and his team and put into WITSEC. There is an instant attraction between them, but Mac won't act on it due to the need to maintain a professional distance and also due to Noah's age (Mac being 9yrs older and Noah still being a minor). There is then a 2yr jump forward, where Noah is now 20 and they're attending a funeral. Mac then sends Noah away with another Marshall, and what wasn't clear until later in the book was that Noah had been living with Mac, and another Marshall and witness pair for that time. It read as if they had been separated, which then meant Noah's distress and heartache didn't seem justified.
There is then another 5yr jump forward and Noah is now a special agent, part of an elite and top secret team, but has grown a little jaded, and is definitely a very different individual to the one Mac knew before.
When the past rises up again, Noah returns home to protect the ones he cares for in the best way he can - by using his skills to seek revenge. When he crosses paths with Mac, he isn't initially recognised - Mac expecting him to be a regular guy, not looking for a highly trained and dangerous agent.
I loved how their reunion went - it was exactly what I would have expected based on who Noah is now. What then happened didn't fit their new personas. Mac immediately wanted Noah, didn't even seem to need to get to know this confident person who could protect himself better than Mac could - it all seemed purely physical attraction because there wasn't even ant chemistry between them at that point. For Noah, in contrast to their initial meeting where Noah stood up for himself, he almost instantly gave in to Mac, and suddenly they're a couple! This didn't make sense - they've been apart for over 5 years, are both very different people and yet got together as if they were the people they were 5 years earlier. I didn't see any new connection between them - therr was barely a conversation betwewn them and suddenly they were boyfriends and changing their lives so they could be with the other. It had felt like Noah's earlier attraction to Mac was a lot to do with him having rescued him - a bit of hero worship - especially with Noah saying he had gotten over Mac years ago and closed himself off to everyone. Now I'm all for soul mates reuniting, but even then there has to be some sort of chemistry/connection between them and this seemed to be lacking that. If this had been done better and explored who they were now before rushing to close out the book, then it would have been a 5 star read.
There were a lot of secondary characters introduced, and at first I lost track of who was who personality wise but it did sort itself out in the end. The book is definitely set up for the other characters to have their own books.
So not a bad start - it definitely shows promise and did keep me entertained. I was definitely more drawn to the agent side of things and the links with Noah's past and the other jobs he had been working on, as opposed to any romance side of things due to the issues with the connection as I mentioned.
I would recommend this book, and hopefully the subsequent books in the series don't have the same issues with the relationships.
