    This box set includes all three books - or parts of the book - of the Riding with Warriors story. It's a western-inspired fantasy, medium-burn, reverse harem romance. I read this with a grain of salt and an open heart.

    Part One:
    I love this first part of Riding with Warriors. This is just the beginning of what is going to be a historical romance. I'm already in love with Mahpee and Alice. I just want to reach into the book and give them both big hugs! So far, things are exciting, fun, romantic, and a little scary (for Alice, not me). I want to know what happens next at the end of each chapter.

    A few of my favorite things: Alice's new name, fishing without a hook, Mahpee's wooing methods, the orange butterflies, and the bear in the river.

    Part Two:
    So far, Alice's journey has been full of romance, adventure, and excitement. I enjoyed learning more about Alice, Mahpee, Hinto, and Yas. The Chochmi people are my kind of (fantasy) people. I love how this blend of cultures shows that love (and romance) is universal and timeless.

    My favorite thing about Alice is how she is becoming stronger and embracing her new friends' ways. My favorite thing about Mahpee is how sweet and romantic he is with Alice, aka Brave Flower. One of his best friends, Hinto, is also romantic, however he takes a while to warm up to Alice. I'm intrigued by Yas, and I'm looking forward to reading about his part in Alice's future.

    Having said that, I noticed a little historical inaccuracy in Part One, and I thought the author was just trying to create a fantastic, slightly history-inspired romance. Then in this second installment, there were several things that gave me pause. While the story is set in the American plains, there is mention of a mountain that happens to share its name with a town in Alaska (which is very far away from the American Midwest). Also, there is a totem pole in the Chochmi village. Totem poles are found in Native American towns on the Northwest coast. These are just two things that stood out to me as out of place. There is also the unfortunate use of the word "squaw." I'm guessing that Lily Harlem had no idea that is an ethnic slur when she was writing this.

    I still enjoyed the story! The writing is excellent, the characters are interesting people (except for Old Conner and his friends), and I want to see what else will be mixed in with the plains tribe's ways. At this point, I'm classifying this as fantasy romance and not historical romance.

    Part Three:
    It's the finale! I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, sexy story. There's still plenty of adventure and steamy romance. I really enjoyed this fantasy based on history. The Chochmi people are not historically accurate, but they are historically inspired.

    Alice, aka Brave Flower, gets to know Yas better. She has a short - but sizzling hot - adventure with him while her other two men, Mahpee and Hinto, stay at camp to help the others and deal with Old Conner. I like how things ended, but the climax was kind of... anticlimactic. The resolution was sweet and bursting with mushy love stuff.

    Having said that, I love how each part of the book is about one of the men romancing Alice. I like how they are real people, not just one-dimensional stereotypes. Lily Harlem lives in the U.K., and I feel like she was influenced by Hollywood while steering clear of old cliches. It's always a pleasure reading her work, so I was bracing myself for some common misconceptions about Americans during the Western Expansion, as well as Native Americans. Yes, there are some inaccuracies (see my review of Part Two for details). Yes, there are "cowboys and indians." There are covered wagons and "maize." There are also good people who know we're all the same on the inside. There's also the idea of universal, timeless love.

    Riding With Warriors features Alice as she tries to find a new life for herself away from a man who threatens her well-being. She discovers inner strength and resilience while also falling for the kind warriors who befriend her, care for her, and ultimately, love her. I enjoyed this sexy Western. Ms Harlem did a great job of writing about the Chochmi warriors. I love the way she handled the Native American culture with skill and sensitivity. This sexy story is definitely worth reading.

    AS SURE AS THE SUN WILL RISE TOMORROW
    The stories of Riding With Warriors is an ongoing saga in a trilogy. The first tale will be what happens to Alice Bennett, and why she leaves the wagon train. It will have her willing to risk her life to escape and try and make it on her own. Finding an abandoned and somewhat rundown cabin, at least she will have shelter. Alice doesn’t know that Henry was a friend of the Chochmi, and taught them his language to aid them in dealing with white settlers as they traveled the lands. Time is of the essence to take shelter for the night and reassess her options in the light of morning. Why does she feel like she is being watched?
    Mahpee is shocked to see a pale face leave the wagon train in a hurry and worries others will follow. What a shock to discover it isn’t a man, but a woman, and while he should stay and make sure this group of travelers leaves tomorrow, he is drawn to this woman. He will follow her, watch her find Henry’s home, and make camp for the night. He will watch over her and keep her safe—even if she isn’t aware he is there.
    This saga plot is intriguing, and I love the chemistry that comes about between Brave Flower, as Mahpee has named Alice. Before he makes himself known to her, he returns to his village and confronts his two best friends, Yas and Hinto. When Mahpee makes himself known to Alice, she has a gun pointed at his chest, but he remains calm, presenting her with a flower. When he helps her, bringing her fresh berries and fishing to feed her, he gains her trust.
    The story is a beautiful romance of a strong but frightened Alice meeting a Chochmi Warrior, and he shows her he is her friend, there to help her, lend his strength and protection.
    “I said I would care for you, and I will. I do not wish for you to ever get one scratch or bruise or moment of pain, hunger or sorrow.”
    The trust that Mahpee and Brave Flower share is full of adventures, new experiences, and eventually erotic passion, and they become lovers. I am hooked on this new series and look forward to reading more and see where this erotic tale of two cultures will lead us.
    “I fear…” He pulled their joined hands to his chest, tugging her close again. “You are stealing my heart.”

    The stories of Riding With Warriors is an ongoing saga in a trilogy. The second story picks up with Hinton and Yas coming to inform Mahpee the Elders need to speak to him. That means immediately, and they will leave Alice. She will be alone, and with that comes danger in the two-legged variety, will she be able to protect herself? Will the Elders wish her gone so the wagon train will move on and away from Chochmi land? Or will she be under the protection of the Chochmi?
    “It is what the Elders would want. Yes, We have been instructed not to leave you alone; we must care for you, Brave Flower. And we are happy with our orders from the Elders, they are wise. This old wisdom they are able to understand what the future may hold.”
    Now that Hinton has witnessed Brave Flower in the face of danger, he feels a stronger connection to her. But what will happen when Mahpee sees the way Brave Flower and Hinton are together? Will jealousy become an issue? How far is Hinton ready to go to make a stand for his feelings?

    I can’t say I loved or hated this story. It was different from other RH stories, which I liked. The characters were interesting. But I found myself bored and skimming a lot, too. I feel like it probably dragged out longer than necessary for the plot. Also, quite a few aspects of the plot were just so unlikely and so far out of left field than I was never able to lose my skepticism. A girl running off on her own from a wagon train would have been dead in short order, and I can’t see anyone encouraging it.

    I liked the characters in the story and it ended too soon. The story moved along and I found myself wanting to know more details of day-to-day life. I realise that this would slow things down and wouldn't be to everyone's taste. I know so little about native American culture but I may be inspired to do some research.

    The themes in the book are universal. Are apparently kind strangers more trustworthy than the group you are with? Can you love more than one person? Will jealousy ruin everything? Can you find a home somewhere completely unexpected?
