Once again Rachel has delivered a well thought out novel of suspense, not just a cookie cutter story meant to meet a deadline. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot line, although as a mother of three, found it quite terrifying! The plethora of possible antagonists to choose from was also refreshing. So many writers these days spend a lot of time serving up several suspects to chose from, but not many choose to develop them into actual characters the reader can get a feel for. This can lead to frustration and disappointment at the end when a bad guy we’ve never been exposed to pops out of the woodwork, with a slightly plausible motive and completely implausible means and opportunity.

Thanks, Rachel for your continued dedication to your art. The readability was enhanced by superior proofreading which is so uncommon these days, making many books that have wonderful plot lines almost unreadable. I know there has been a dramatic increase in self published/edited novels over the last several years. I applaud all those brave enough to put themselves out there, and I rarely critique authors for this; but like a wedding photographer, proof readers/editors are not the best choice of cost cutting. Just a fresh set of eyes can remove text that was clearly meant to be deleted, but instead was left in because it was all spelled correctly. Too many of these errors can lead to a loss of interest because they’re so distracting. You have obviously gathered a great group of eyes!

I will eagerly await you next venture. Thanks again!

The story was so intriguing that I almost felt like I would get whiplash! Ms. Abbott shined in her storytelling but the ending was quite ordinary. There were many ways the finish could have matched the story but unfortunately fell flat for me.

Oh goodness! Where to start? I have read all of Rachel Abbott’s books and I love every single one but Right Behind You is my favorite so far! I read a LOT of books in this genre and I’m pretty good at guessing the endings fairly early in the book. Not with this one! I had so many theories that kept changing and morphing throughout the book but when all was revealed, I honestly said out loud, “I did NOT see that coming!” (Which woke my husband up as it was in the middle of the night.) I like a certain kind of ending and although this book didn’t give me that, it was written in such a way that I absolutely loved it and I really can’t see any other way that this book could have ended. I’m quite satisfied and I am now reading this book for a second time to see if I can pick up on things I may have missed the first time.
All of Rachel Abbott’s books can be read as stand alone books but there is a background storyline with her detectives that starts with her first book. I love falling in love with her detectives and new characters (and sometimes love to hate some characters). I highly recommend reading Right Behind You!

Don’t start this book right before bedtime or you won’t get any sleep. It is so incredibly riveting that you can’t put it down and sleep will elude you. So many dark secrets, betrayals, lies, twists and turns. When the truth comes out it will knock you for a loop. This author does not disappoint book after book. At the end my heart was racing and I certainly didn’t have a clue who was behind all the chaos. Stunning writing with a twist you won’t see coming.

This is the latest story in the DCI Tom Douglas series and tells the story of police knocking on Jo Palmer’s door and arresting her paediatric surgeon husband Ash. Shortly thereafter Child Protective Services show up and insist on taking Jo’s but not Ash’s biological child with them. Neither the arresting officers nor CPS are who they say they are and thus evolves the attempts by the Police and Jo to find both her husband and child.
I found it hard to believe that Jo would not insist on accompanying her child but appreciated her later efforts and determination to get her daughter back. I also liked the realistic character of Ash who commits adultery and the ending which is realistic rather than an all-round happy ending. 4 stars.

I've read numerous books by Rachel Abbott and enjoyed them, but this is the second one that I've completed recently and find them lacking. Overall, I thi k that she is a good suspense writer, but the funny thing about fiction is even though we know it's not true, it had to be believable. Even when I factor in the latitude that a fiction writer has to create a bit of the unbelievable, there are parts of this story that is too much, particularly the end. It was silly and ridiculous and just served to make me cranky. A bad ending can ruin an otherwise good book. I bought it because of all the rave reviews and really, I don't quite get that. Maybe I'm beginning to out grow these types of books.

A true page turner, packed with suspense! This book is number 9 of 10 in the series and as I close this book and go on to 10, it will be hard to leave the cast of characters in these books. Tom, Becky, Keith, and even Phillappa (sic).

This author is so gifted with the written word. Please don’t end Tom and the gang of Cracker Jack detectives! Being a Texan, I’m getting to know the use of the English language across the pond.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you’re meeting a work deadline, don’t pick up this book…

Don’t tell me you’ve not been warned. This is dangerously addictive. For me, I had to peel myself away from this book to clean the two bathrooms, if not nothing will be done over the last weekend.

The story is extremely intriguing and engaging. It is like watching a thriller on TV and you can’t leave your seat to go pee because every scene is revealing a clue. In this book, the author is cunningly ending most the chapters with a cliffhanger. First you thought this person can’t be the culprit, but at the last sentence in the short chapter, the table is turned. Damn.

For a story of losing a child, it should be an easy story to follow. It becomes a thriller when you don’t know if it is a kidnapping or an abduction. So, there is a difference.

I was kept in my seat turning the pages, but as I’ve said, I needed to clean the bathrooms. Yet, I finished the book in four days. Finally.

The story is even better when there are relationship issues, trust issues and work related issues that each character has to settle. These issues injected breathing spaces into the plot and make the story so alive with characters you’ll love, or not.
