RISKY MISSION an unstoppable crime thriller with a shocking twist (Frank Doy Book 1) Kindle Edition
“A good plot with lots of twists & turns. Look forward to more of Mr Latus’ work.” Sandra M.
Frank Doy, contract security specialist, is flat broke. Then beautiful and mysterious Vlasta George shows up at his door. She'll give him good money to take her to a secret location in Europe, no questions asked.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
The woman’s husband is a murderous Teesside gangster. She is running away to start a life without him, taking her two young kids and a million pounds with her.
HE WANTS HER BACK. DEAD OR ALIVE.
But there is someone even more dangerous — someone from the past — who also has an interest in the money. Before long, two of Vlasta’s circle are found dead.
Doy finds himself in a frantic chase across Europe, travelling into unknown territory, battling an enemy he doesn’t understand, for vendettas he is not involved with.
Will he be able to protect his client — and make it out alive?
Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Peter James, Robert Galbraith and Michael Grant.
MEET FRANK DOY, a quick-thinking, fast-talking security consultant turned private investigator. He has a talent for finding himself in the seediest corners of the most dangerous cities in Europe. He doesn’t go looking for trouble. He lives in a converted miner’s cottage on an isolated stretch of the Cleveland coast. But he never backs down from a fight and he never turns away those who are desperate. So trouble finds him.
WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT DAN LATUS:
“Dan Latus’s style is trimmed, hard and fast. There isn’t a paragraph or word in there that doesn’t belong, so the story really rips along.” Jack R.
“The more I read the more I enjoyed it. Good plot and characters with some twists and turns.” Atabarac
“What I greatly appreciated was this writer's ability to get me feeling that I was witness, not merely an audience.” C. W. A.
“More like this please, publishers.” Rob M.

About the author

Dan Latus lives with his wife in Northumberland. By instinct and education a geographer, his novels are inspired by the regions and places where he has lived and worked, and knows best. Several are set on Teesside and along the Cleveland coast, where he grew up and developed a love of hill walking and climbing. Others are located in Northumberland, which has long been home. Some are set at least in part in Central Europe, a region he has visited frequently over many years for work and pleasure. And "Saving Harry" is based in Western Canada, where he lived and worked for the best part of a decade.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseVery surprising turns of the plot at every opportunity! Even the ending is unexpected. Well-written with mostly real locations that can be found on Google Earth. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA quick, enjoyable, page turner. Believable characters and plot. Doy is a very likable hero, with a heart of gold. Brains? A little slow which somehow fires his cautious mess and his sharp planning.a
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseInteresting story. Characters were believable. I enjoyed the way the story was twisted just when you thought you had it figured out and then twisted again. I particularly enjoyed the ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere is so much gore and pedophilia in books nowadays. Great to read a well constructed mystery-thriller book
Worth reading
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseQuite a entertaining mystery. Lots of jumping around, so I could.not figure it out. But it did end extremely well.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2023Format: KindleReally good book. Moves along quickly. Crisp dialogue with minimal hooptedoodle. Frequent new revelations keeps you guessing. Well written.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2020Format: KindleThis story kept unfolding right from the start and did not stop until the end. It isn’t filled with a lot of unnecessary descriptions. Just enough to give you the picture and move along with the plot. This book is a fun read and kept me guessing (wrong) all they way through it. Full of surprise twists. Not your standard thriller story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2023Format: KindleI don't really enjoy writing a 1-star Review. Any author who puts the time in and gets the book published has earned my respect. But people reading the other reviews will think this a fast-moving, great mystery book. Not even close. First, it's a little slow in the beginning and there is little to no suspense. Second, the mystery isn't much since we know all the characters ahead of time (except one, but he's only mentioned in the end, and he's not really in any scenes) and we know all the bad guys. Then there's the so-called "twist" at the end. ***SPOILER ALERT*** ***SPOILER ALERT***. The money is counterfeit. Well, if the money is counterfeit, how did Harry (a bad guy) expect to get away with it? Once the other bad guy figured out the money that Harry paid him was bogus, Harry would be dead, so how would that work in the initial plot of this novel? Plus, it appears the female star also knew it was counterfeit or she would have asked for it near the end. Sorry, that was a nice idea that just doesn't work. This one is not worth your time. I won't be reading the next installment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solo rampage
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLots of action as Frank tackles a beautiful woman escaping her controlling crime boss husband, one million euros, and Slovakian mob. Nothing is as it seems and Frank has to wonder who is the enemy. There are quite a few bodies, mindless violence, and some more intimate moments.
Don't think too hard and just escape into the action.

3.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOnce you try to get over the myriad punctuation errors, you're left with an ending that's as counterfeit as the money. By the way, Mr. Latus, ever heard that there's no comma before a dependent clause?
