Micheal Maxwell is an internationally bestselling author whose storytelling stretches the boundaries of time and place, much like the captivating journeys in his Cole Sage and Time Pedaler series. With a voice honed by the influence of Bob Dylan’s poetic soul, Leonard Cohen’s lyrical enigmas, and the sharp observations of Charles Dickens and Robertson Davies, Maxwell crafts narratives that transcend mere adventure—his stories are odysseys into the heart of humanity.

Known for his ability to seamlessly blend suspense, history, and heart-pounding action, Maxwell’s titles now span forty books across six series. Whether through the time-traveling escapades of Chant Baker in The Time Pedaler, the down-to-earth grit of The Cole Sage Series, or epic the stand-alone novel No Road Home Maxwell’s characters aren’t just heroes—they are explorers, risk-takers, and champions of justice, often navigating the shadows of history and the complexities of moral dilemmas. His writing invites readers to take the leap into worlds where every decision could alter the course of time, or bring justice to the surface against impossible odds.

Maxwell is committed to breaking the mold of modern fiction, steering clear of gratuitous sex and profanity, and focusing instead on compelling, character-driven narratives filled with sharp twists, intricate plots, and an unwavering sense of fair play. His books are a return to storytelling that inspires, where heroes are defined not by their flaws, but by their courage and compassion.

Drawing from a life filled with travel, music, and encounters with figures as diverse as rock stars and revolutionaries, Maxwell writes with the authenticity of someone who has seen the world from all angles. He and his wife Janet reside in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where life’s next adventure is always waiting to unfold—both in his pages and beyond.

When the small city of Rohm is shaken with the deaths of three DJ's, Detective Max Harmon and his new partner Detective Paige are flummoxed as to why someone would target them at their two respective Radio stations. Of course, Max still has his hands full trying to clean up the slippery mis-management of the police department. Not to mention the politicians of the town. With a small but steady group of old and new friends, Max becomes more confident in bringing justice to Rohm in this second installment of Rohm Around The Dial. The idea of using two radio stations for the murder backdrops is a nostalgic return to our golden years of wonderful melodies played with DJ voices speaking to us through the days golden top hits. I loved the flashbacks of the music selections the author included throughout the book. Ah, to play a Vinyl record again...

So much happening in the little town of Rohm. Good characters, nice town, murders to solve, new detective in town. Still corrupted officials. Can it all get solved?

I really like this new series and the second book is even better than the first. Love Detective Harmon. He comes from Tampa PD to small town Rohm and finds lots of obstacles in his way to solving crime. Corruption to be dealt with and a serial killer on the loose. Loved it. Looking forward to more in this series.

Many thanks to the author / The Book Whisperer / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction / mystery / police procedural. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Detective Max Harmon is called to investigate when a DJ at a local radio station is found strangled to death while on air.

A few days later, another DJ is found in the same way at another local radio station.

He lost his partner a short time back, and just as he's learning to work alone, his supervisor, who doesn't really care for Max, presents him with a new partner ... a young woman with not much experience. Max has a suspicion in the back of his mind that she might be a plant. It's no secret that the supervisor would like to see him go ... it's a political thing.

When they have no leads, no clues, no evidence, and after questioning the DJs' co-workers, Max makes the decision to work the night shift at the first radio station. Max had some practice when he was in college, so this will be nothing new.

But baiting the killer while on the air brings consequences ... deadly consequences.

It's fast-paced, and although the killer and motive are revealed early on, it takes nothing away from the story. The characters are solidly drawn and I like how they relate to each other, especially when a news reporter is also brought in. This is the second in the series and easily read as a stand alone. However, I would recommend reading in order as the character development is so apparent.

Max, confronted by obstructions in Rohm’s political structure on the one hand, and a crime problem (homicide!) in the other, manages to keep the situations in hand by the end of this story - but an incident along the way with the specter of some sort of Federal operation hanging over it, clouds the horizon.

The pace keeps up through the story never getting boring but nice and easy to keep up with. The main character is very real and the background characters have just enough to stay interesting. Wasn't sure at first about this series but have found my self
enjoying it and looking forward to more.
