    I love romantic suspense books and this one did not disappoint at all. Virginia did an excellent job of reigning her audience in and keeping them entertained throughout the book. I kept try to guess who the "villain" of the story was and I did not figure it out before it was revealed. Very strong lead characters. I would highly recommend this book - a must read!

    This is a highly suspenseful novel, one that keeps the adrenaline flowing. When Emily's high profile mother starts receiving items belonging to her daughter as a veiled threat to her safety, she takes action. Emily is an adult in her own right but caught in the crosshairs of a man out for revenge, she becomes the scapegoat for all the evils that beset one twisted man's imagination. Sam Mackenzie is appointed as a bodyguard to Emily Montaigne, having previously been on protective detail for her mother, but it is a role fraught with hidden dangers. The attraction between Sam and Emily is obvious from the start, but with a history of a dysfunctional family, Sam does not see a future with Emily. I found this novel to be well written and the suspense carries the reader right through to the end. Sam is a strong hero despite his emotional frailties and although having grown up in a privileged household, Emily is no shrinking violet. This well-written suspense is well worthwhile reading and comes to a successful conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review.     This is one of five books in the Shadow Heroes collection by Virginia Kelly and the first one I’ve read. It is a stand-alone, without a cliff hanger ending and written in third person.

    Grab a drink, sit down and get ready to escape into this fast paced, high octane and suspenseful novel! It captured my attention from the first page, where we meet wounded (physically and mentally) Sam Mackenzie. He’s a member of a Delta Force elite Army team, anxious to return to them, when he’s suddenly summoned to assist the Secretary of State.

    Emily Montaigne, on the surface, is a spoiled socialite living a privileged life. In reality, her life has is not a storybook; she has been a kidnapping victim, betrayed by someone close to her. When new threats put the foundation she manages, and her life, in jeopardy, Sam becomes her reluctant bodyguard.

    From their swoon-worthy chance meeting to the nail biting run for their lives on two continents, Sam and Emily’s story holds the reader in its grasp, not letting go until the final page is read! You don’t want to miss this suspenseful romance!

    This is an exciting tale that will have you on the edge of your seat at times and definitely keep you up reading late into the night. I know because that’s what it did for me. Emily and Sam both have pasts that impact their present actions, but their emotions run high and desires hot while on the run to find a safe haven. There’s a lot of drama, intrigue, and suspense to hold your attention and watching Sam and Emily’s relationship build in intensity despite the precarious situation adds just the right touch of passion to make this a real page turner from start to finish. It’s a thoroughly engaging romantic suspense that’s well worth the read.

    Delta Force Soldier Sam Mackenzie was ordered to protect Emily, the person he met at a party and was instantly attracted to. A protection detail had gone wrong in the past, how could he prevent this one from going the same way. Who was after her? I read the first couple of pages and went yeah! This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed the strong characters who had their own personalities. The attraction, the danger and the mystery kept me engaged.     I enjoyed the story line. Both main characters had a parent that was not a role model yet had developed the good character of their family. The main characters were defined. The story itself was very good. I finished it in one sitting. I would recommend if you enjoy military protectors. I received this book in advance and I am leaving my honest opinion of the story
