Rune Knight: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (Rune War Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 175 ratings

A dark prophecy is coming to pass and only a young knight, a retired veteran and a long-dead elemental master stands in its way.

Darg’s long-awaited dream has finally come true. He’s achieved the rank of Rune Knight, a protector of the realm, charged with defending his nation against all enemies.

His first task is easy, locate a retired knight and return him to the order. It seems easy enough, but what Darg doesn’t know–but is soon to find out–is that a darkness is coming and only the aged knight knows how to stop it.
Well, the knight and a long-dead elemental master who has decided to stick around for reasons he’s keeping to himself.

On top of the impending disaster, Darg has to navigate a corrupt city guard and crime lord who wants his head.

Perhaps his first quest wasn’t such a simple one after all.

Launch into the Rune War Series and discover a cast of dynamic characters in a rich high-fantasy setting. If you like characters that grow with each book, like Pug from the Raymond. E. Feist books and the epicness and rising stakes like the Wheel of Time, then you’ll love Darg’s tale.

Hello, thanks for giving this a read. Just a little about me.

I'm from the West Midlands, United Kingdom and I've loved Fantasy books ever since I could remember.

One of my favourite series is by Raymond E. Feist. That long set of books spread over many series started the backbone of my reading life, and I've branched out from there. You can’t beat a good fantasy book that draws you in.

But I don't just read Fantasy books, but Sci Fi and some Horror as well. Brian Lumley is one of my favourite Horror authors. Got to love his Necroscope series.

Sci fi wise, I've currently embarked on reading the Horus Heresy Books, so any WH40K fans want to chat come find me on my Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/TheRuneWarSeries

Another Sci Fi favourite of mine are the Commonwealth books by Peter F Hamilton. Something about them speaks to me, almost as if we’re just short of springing into space as a Race now. I hope I see humans living on other planets before my time here is done.

But… Back to my books. I've got a lot planned for this series of mine, lots of spin offs, prequel books and further exploration of my world. So please follow me and keep your eyes peeled for my new releases.

A story any sword and sorcery lover would love!
This story is set in a world of mant races, magic and magical creatures. Darg has finally become a Rune Knight and is sent on a mission that ordinarily would have been left to an expert. Instead of going to a camp or site where new Rune Knights gain experience, this rookie is sent to find Garret, a man bound to watch a tower. After finding Garret, a few interesting things happen. Darg learns he can open the tower with blood and can summon the spell to open it. A giant rock golem comes out to defend the tower. Darg gets inside and faces the undead! Then finds out that the tower was once a man. His name is Arakar and he is a soul now bound to a stone orb and he and Darg make a secret pact, one that allows Arakar to inhabit Dargs mind and they can use telepathy to communicate. Fast forward a little and now Garret and Darg meet a council and are tasked with finding criminals that are committing murder. While they set off on task, Darg learns from Arakar that he can learn to read minds and immediately begins to learn how to do just that. The story has a few twists and turns that really worked well and I really enjoyed this book. The prose is well done. This is a story any sword and sorcery fantasy lover would enjoy! I thoroughly recommend this book.

Forever trying to find writers and stories that capture our attention and imagination, we constantly deal with frustrating searches and disappointments. This is exactly the type of book that makes all that time invested worthwhile. Rune Knight is certainly solid, interesting and well written, especially concerning the magics, combat and breadth of storylines. Solid characters, if a little light on the building, mostly straight forward and appealing to our base emotions. I'm excited for the next one in the series and keep looking forward to what will happen next. Worth the read if you are looking for something fresh in fantasy/magics. A likable noble bright hero who has his work cut out for him, and the bad people being glaringly bad and extremely powerful.

I enjoyed the book, however, jumping back and forth between different characters was a little exasperating. Also, it ended in a cliffhanger, necessitating purchasing the next one in the series. It also was a little slow in places . I did enjoy the characters of Darg, Tank and Garrett and their adventures.

A newly-christianed rune knight must find a winter warrior and enlist his aid to combat a rising threat, but this is only the beginning of an intriguing tale with new twists around every corner. Do yourself a favor and give it a try!

A nice amount of action built into the world building, the author included beats that allowed for character development. I did not feel the characters went from one crisis to another, which was great.

It is an OK "read and forget tale"

I really enjoyed the way we were introduced to a new world by following different characters. It allowed us to get a more complete veiw of the world and built anticipation to when they would all meet.
My one complaint has to do with the editing. Characters get misnamed or identify throughout the books. It is really noticable in the 3rd book where the Chief of Chieftains is called a priest and where one of the Priests keeps getting called Jadek. It made for jarring moments as I had to mentally correct the error, which pulled me out of the story.
Other than that, I loved them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Fantasy

I am still currently reading the book so no spoilers here. But, I am completely taken away with it and it definitely holds my interest.

I love how you follow a few characters and their story, with their point of view and that there isn’t just ONE main character.

This book has hope, courage and of course like the other reviews have mentioned fantasy! Whether you like action, complex characters or anything else, so far from what I have read it has it. I think anyone can enjoy this book and I’m looking forward to seeing how the characters develop. Thank you for writing this book.

One of those books that makes you really feel what the characters are experiencing and eager to find out where their story goes.
An amazing start for a series that could span many books in a world full of history, interesting characters and complex stories.
Highly recommend for any fantasy fans.

This story was really gripping and has me excited about events yet to unfold in the upcoming books!
The book has some great characters and lots of action. However, my favourite aspect of the book is the depiction of powerful magic in this fantasy world.
    Bring on Book 2!
