Sable: A sea-faring Tale. (Kingdom of Durundal - Age of Heroes. Book 10) Kindle Edition
In her dreams, a voice whispers to her. The voice tells her she is destined to wield a legendary sword and that her path will lead to greatness. It says the way forward lies in the handsome Viking set on winning her heart, but only if she unravels the mystery hanging over her first.
Waking up to a burned out village where everyone has been slaughtered, is nothing short of a nightmare for Sable. In an instant, every hope she had for the future has disappeared, along with her one true love who is lost somewhere at sea. But survival is just the beginning of an incredible adventure that will take her across mighty oceans, through many storms, and into the paths of murdering undesirables as she embarks on a journey to find the man she loves and unravel the mystery that surrounds her.
With great loss comes great determination and none more than Sable, even if it is painted with blood, strewn with bodies and scattered with the pieces of her own broken heart.

HISTORY OF THE KINGDOM
There are none who can say with certain knowledge when the Kingdom of Durundal began, yet this has not stopped the dragons, the kings, the sorcerers and other wise-ones from seeking the answer. What we do know is that dragons ruled supreme and considered by many to be the Dawn of Time.
This was a time when Elves, Dragons, Humans and Forest Folk were all at peace and lived in harmony—but in time, something changed.
Power and Ambition.
The Fates stepped in with a prophecy; a prophecy that proclaimed a 'chosen one' would rule the kingdoms with knowledge and wisdom and bring peace to the realm. However, the Dark Lord in his rage and eternal damnation vowed he would do everything in his power to stop it.
And so it was—the Dark Lord became unstoppable as his Disciples of Death searched out the chosen one. Barbaric! Uncivilised! Numerous! It is said that the earth cried blood and the barren soil left behind bore no fruit. The dragons disappeared, the Elves retreated, the Forest Folk went underground. Hearts were broken, loved-ones were lost, thrones were burned, and the kingdoms were in turmoil. Many said that darkness would prevail and man would never be understanding of acceptance and remain beyond all evil.
Yet—there was hope. The Prophecy was beginning to unfold; and with it came the Age of Heroes.
Welcome to the Kingdom of Durundal.

About the Author
I survive on a happy diet of historical and fantasy fiction and I particularly enjoy a good Viking Tale. My favourite authors are Bernard Cornwell, Joe Abercrombie and Madeline Miller.

About the author

The magnificent Kingdom of Durundal ~
Series Information:
The Kingdom of Durundal is an award-winning epic 12-part fantasy/adventure/drama that boasts a wealth of researched history, mythology and folklore.
Book 1 is 'A Hare in the Wilderness' where the child of prophecy has been chosen by the Fates. Her task is to prove she is worthy of leading her people out of the darkness and into the light. The next 10 books follow the journey of those who cross her path - directly and indirectly.
The animals used in the titles of the first five books are totems; symbols of courage and strength, guides and talismans.
Books 6, 7, 8 introduce the Sorceress of the Sapphire and how the prophecy is finally fulfilled.
Books 9, 10, 11 expose the back story behind several of the key characters. Who they really are and what changed them; for the greater good . . . or for the worse.
The Prophecy is book 12 and a prequel to the series. This book details the origins of the prophecy amid the dawn of time - when dragons, dwarves and elves ruled the kingdoms and the Dark Lord vowed to plunge the kingdoms into eternal darkness and rule with fear.
Inspiration comes from my interest in the past; in ancient civilisations and dynasties; the kings, emperors, dictators, leaders and religious ambassadors. The Kingdom of Durundal is an epic 12-part-saga, steeped in layers of blood-feuds, warring deities, and at the centre of it all - the common people fighting their own battles in order to survive.
Books in the series are:
1) A Hare in the Wilderness
2) A Wolf in the Dark
3) A Leopard in the Mist
4) A Stag in the Shadows
5) A Moth in the Flames
6, 7, 8) Sorceress of the Sapphire parts 1,2,3
9) Severn
10) Sable
11) Sagitta
12/Prequel) The Prophecy
I had a specific reason for writing 12 books, as the number 12 carries religious and universal data in addition to mythological and magical symbolism. It represents perfection, completeness and holds a significant value in astrology. Notably, all my dragons in Sagitta ( Book 11) are named after the constellations.
When people read these books, I hope they enter a world that they will never want to leave behind - a story that, when retold, reveals even more than the first time around.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2021SABLE: Book Ten in The Kingdom of Durundal series by S. E. Turner
Sable was the sole survivor at the end of SEVERN, in which her people were slaughtered. It ended with a thrilling cliffhanger, and I was very much anticipating this book. I wanted to learn what happened to Sable; to hear her story. It is a most exciting one. For SABLE, I might add, you don’t have to have read the books before. Of course having read Severn, I was able to flow right into SABLE with full understanding. But Ms. Turner gives us clues, back stories, flashbacks…enough to make it all accessible.
And what a story it is. Turner’s Nordic Viking saga is also a tale of Magic and Myth with the added traits found in great fairytales; lessons to be learned, parables of courage and loyalty and the bonds of love and friendship. SABLE has endured much, but she is courageous, chosen, and she will do what it takes to find her love, kidnapped at sea by their invaders, to help her remaining people and to be a catalyst for world of peace. She is trained by Aquila, the Great Seer of their people, who was sent to her by her deceased mother. It is her destiny. Along the way, she must save another people and battle their enemies as well as her own. These battle scenes are well written, often brutal and clearly described, dramatic and disturbing in the right amounts to make the point. She writes well of lavish extravagance or misery.
There are three stories that we follow. The story of SABLE, her training and her calling, the story of the Kingdom of Al Geiba, and the story of Sable’s lover, Bard, imprisoned at sea with the remainder of Sable’s people. All three stories are brought together with some amazing surprises. If you love a saga of olden days crafted into a larger than life myth; this is the book for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2021This story delivers fast-paced action and suspenseful adventure, making it a highly engaging and exciting read. It continues directly from the action of Severn, but could also be read very effectively as a standalone.
Like the previous books in The Kingdom of Durundal series, this is a story of danger and bravery, and of the pursuit of both justice and destiny. Sable is a young woman who embodies bravery and loyalty, but also possesses special gifts and qualities as a Seer. It is her responses to the challenge of how best to use her abilities, and for whose benefit, that qualify her as a worthy hero. In her independence, commitment, strength and decision-making, Sable provides a very positive role model for young women, even though the challenges and decisions they face are almost definitely different than those encountered by the hero of this story.
The settings are colourful and richly textured, populated by characters who represent the gamut of humanity. Thus, the author contrasts the very good with the evil, the humble with the proud, and the servant heart with the corrupt. This makes the different personalities highly relatable and very interesting.
'Sable' is an excellent fantasy story that delivers both good entertainment and valuable, thought-provoking life lessons. It is a most worthwhile read, as is the entire excellent series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2021Another great addition to the series. Sable is a strong woman. She's suffered a great tragedy, but still she perseveres and hopes for a better future.
The story has a lot of historical elements that give you a "softer" look at the lives of Vikings. And there's enough magical elements to make the fantasy element work. I always enjoy learning about the culture, and the folklore adds to the belief systems.
One thing I enjoy about these stories is that they can all be read independently of one another, but they also tie in to each other nicely. The timeline of the series is not sequential, but this works. You get "ah-ha" moments when you discover something new about characters from earlier books. I love how it keeps the story fresh and exciting, keeping me wondering what new things I will discover.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2021I love the way the author weaves together mythology, adventures, tragedy and hope in SABLE - all done with finess and in a way that inspires and ties up loose ends. Even if you haven't read the other books in the Kingdom of Durundal series, you'll enjoy SABLE's story, but if you have, it will be a treat to hear the rest of the story as revealed in both seques and prequel. The story begins in tragedy, but quickly becomes a testament to the resilency and determination of the human spirit. There are surprises, wonders, dangers, and triumphs to keep you riveted to each page. A wonderful next addition to the Kingdom of Durundal books. I highly recommend the entire series.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2021I read Severn first, then picked up this beauty and man, was I in for a treat. This was a completely different perspective from the main character’s point of view and her journey to find peace and redemption. Once again, S E Turner has created an incredible world with great character development. Can’t wait for Sagitta.
