Starting for Home (Beck Family Saga Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 56 ratings

Succeeding in the oil industry obsesses her. A friend’s tragic accident makes her face the truth. Is her future going to bring joy? Or destruction?

Gerri Keffer is determined to excel in the rough world of oil extraction and climb the corporate ladder like her father and older brother before her. Now she’s landed a job as a production supervisor in the oil fields of Wyoming. She doesn’t have time for friends—old or new—or even a second glance at Kaiden Beck, a good-looking guy from Montana. The only valve she has for stress release is rock climbing where she too often takes extreme risks.

The tragic accident involving a lifelong girlfriend makes her question her life’s choices for the first time. Is she doing what she really wants to do in life? Or has her entire plan been a reaction to what she thought her parents wanted from her? Will success bring her happiness? Or is there another key, something she’s missing, to life’s joy?

Starting from Home is a woman’s fiction novel set in the drilling fields of Wyoming. It is the fifth full-length novel of the Rocky Mountain Front series. If you like western women’s fiction and family sagas, buy this book today and join those who have already discovered the strengths and loves of the Beck family.

Kaiden has worked hard to distinguish himself from his older brothers. His affinity for rocks has led him to work for an energy company that’s primary job is extracting oil from the ground. As he is learning and growing in his chosen career, he meets Gerri. Gerri has been driven to prove she can do whatever her brothers can but better. Now in a male dominated profession, she is passionate about doing a great job and building her career to move up. But her true passion is climbing which is how she truly connects with Kaiden. I enjoyed this couple and the challenges they faced in their careers but also in finding what actually makes them happy. The jobs they have don’t make having relationships easy due to the movement related to their careers but as they acknowledge a chance for love, they both end up reevaluating their path. Through this entire series, there is an overriding issue for the Beck family related to the mineral rights on their land. I love how Gerri is able to help Kaiden investigate through their shared love of climbing. I love how I am immersed in these characters daily highs and lows as they are finding their path through this challenge, we call life.

An uplifting and heartwarming read about family, love, and finding your true purpose in life. I enjoyed following Gerri and Kaiden’s journeys and watching them map out their own paths. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but her vivid descriptions and true-to-life characters kept me engrossed until the end.

Starting for Home is the fifth book about the Beck family. Kaiden's role in the previous books is small and somewhat mysterious as he is the only sibling who hasn't returned to work in the area. As a geologist working for the oil industry, Kaiden's job takes him all over.
Working now in Wyoming, Kaiden meets Gerri Keffer a new supervisor who is trying to find her way in a business where she believes she must find success as her father and brother have.
Both Gerri and Kaiden share a love of climbing and that is how they become acquainted. Kaiden enlists Gerri's aid in going with him to the Beck ranch in order to try to find out about suspected mineral rights that could be developed on the Beck land.
Readers will learn a lot about the oil industry and how difficult it is to get this liquid gold out of the ground, how few upper level jobs there are for women, and how very hard the workers must work for the salaries they earn. In addition, the descriptions of climbing in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming and Montana will let you 'see' how beautiful our country is. If you haven't read the first four books, I highly recommend all of them. This series reads like one, long, enjoyable novel with a family you will come to know and like. The series isn't finished yet and the next book already hints at being another read not to be missed.
