- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2020Sam seems like the stereotypical gruff, hard-nosed, whiskey-swilling private investigator until you enter the world in which he lives. A sci-fi, dystopian maze unlike any I’ve had the pleasure to explore. There are sentient holographic creatures along with androids and partial androids. Sam’s secretary is every man’s dream—buxom, curvy, blond, but with intelligence to spare. Sugar Kane, secretary/IT specialist/hacker, is the perfect sidekick for Sam as he takes on one impossible job after another.
I absolutely loved the character of Sam—though he’s not quite human, he proves himself quite capable dealing with both muscle and intrigue. The surrounding cast was equally entertaining. The amazing creative storytelling talent of Jago is on full display. Highly Recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2020This was a fun book to read! A blending of old noir crime with science fiction. I loved Sam's snarkiness. Characters were well-written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard-boiled PI with classic noir feel set in a sci-fi world.
Recap: A series of cases for P.I Sam Nero and his receptionist Sugar Kane.
Review: Loved the hardboiled noir feel to the books and characters. Real gangsters and family and money with some android and hologram technology thrown in. All the women looked fabulous and were able to ooze sexuality but that fits with the genre. I really liked the twins and there is so much world-building I foresee lots more cases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sci-fi detective noir with a side of Sam Spade /Sin City
Seriously excellent ... Short stories linked by some terrific characters and sharp underbelly plots. Snappy dialogue, dames and bruisers, saps and blasters, androids and holograms. Very intriguing world building.
