4.4 out of 5 stars 1,534 ratings

Discover a crime thriller full of shocking twists by one of the most exciting new authors you’ll read this year.

YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE. YOU CAN NEVER HIDE.

Albert Tanner, vicious psychopath and burner of men, is in the USA with unfinished business.

Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson and Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks must find him first.

Their task is straightforward:
hunt Tanner down and bring him home. But a few explosions, an assassin and a dead child change everything.

Dragged into a sordid world of high class sex parties they discover an Albert Tanner they never knew existed.

Then a child is snatched from her own bed and Tanner wants to do a deal. However the price is far too high.

Paterson and Clocks realise they have no choice but to hunt Tanner down their own way.

This is the fourth in a series of action-packed, edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers, with an ending that will have your heart in your mouth.

Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Damien Boyd, Rachel Abbott, Patricia Gibney or Martina Cole.

THE DETECTIVES
Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson is a young and (thanks to family money) wealthy womaniser, separated from his model wife and tipped to be the youngest ever commissioner of police. He knows he’s weak when it comes to practical policing and struggles to find a place among his peers, desperate to be a good policeman and not just a 'climber'.

Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks is a foul-mouthed, working-class officer. He grew up surrounded by rogues and villains to become a first-class thief taker with the Met police. However, his childish attitude has short-circuited his career and he spends his days antagonising as many people as he can.

THE AUTHOR
Steve Parker is a retired police officer who served for 20 years in numerous high-profiles squads.

Steve Parker was born and raised in south east London (Camberwell and Peckham). At age twenty-one he joined the Metropolitan Police where he served for twenty years in numerous high profile squads before being pensioned out with a serious back injury.

Thankfully, he was blessed with a complete lack of DIY skills so was legitimately able to get away with swanning around the house doing bugger all, all day long. Finding himself with plenty of spare time and a deep desire to never work for anyone again, he dug out an old screenplay he'd written when he was still a policeman and set himself a challenge to turn it into a book which eventually became his debut novel 'Their Last Words' introducing Detectives Paterson & Clocks.

Currently, there are ten books in the DETECTIVES PATERSON & CLOCKS series:

Book 1: THEIR LAST WORDS

Book 2: THE LOST CHILDREN

Book 3: THE BURNING MEN

Book 4: YOU CAN'T HIDE

Book 5: THEIR DYING BREATH

Book 6: CHILD BEHIND THE WALL

Book 7: HIS MOTHER'S BONES

Book 8: DEAD ON DELIVERY

Book 9: SLAUGHTERED AS THEY SLEPT

Book 10: THROWN UNDER THE BUS

DETECTIVES PATERSON & CLOCKS BOOKS 1–8 now available as a box set.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The tension grabbed me by the throat and kept me hooked to the end. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading a really good thriller.

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Book n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the advanced copy of this crime fiction/thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

DS Ray Patterson, along with DI Johnny Clocks, Inspector Lyndsey Mullins and Wallace Young, former Commissioner of Police have landed at the New York City airport, planning to meet a couple of FBI agents. Their job is to track down Albert Tanner. He is a dangerous, savage psychopath who likes to play with fire.

Much to their distress, they learn that Tanner is somehow connect to a recent series of child deaths.

Paterson and his team feel they are being suffocated and prevented from going after Tanner themselves. But when a tragedy happens to an FBI agent, they decide to ignore the rules of the FBI and go it alone.

There are explosions, murder, high class men's parties where all the attendees are not men ..and are not adults.

This is a well written crime thriller with lots of action beginning with the very first page. The suspense maintains a solid pace until the very end. There is a slight cliffhanger involved, just enough to whet the reader's appetite for more.

The characters are finely drawn and I really like seeing how they all relate to each other. Paterson is the quiet, somber leader of the group of detectives. Clocks is the humor ..an adult going on 12. There's the language barrier, which Clocks uses to his advantage and drives the American agents crazy ... and thank goodness for the explanations of those words or expressions.

This book was my first Steve Parker book and I enjoyed it!  It was a good thriller and fast paced.  This book is not the first book in the series I learned.  But I still enjoyed it very much.   Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson and Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks were good characters and I enjoyed the story enough I will probably go back and start at the beginning of this series.  *This book was given to me for free at my request from Netgalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

Five stars because it holds the attention. Fast moving with several acts of British behavior. Very educational on police procedure.

Steve Parker keeps you on the edge of your seat hoping for the capture of a murderous psychopath. Tanner flees to the United States to escape the Metropolitan police. The London police follow Tanner to the United Stateswritten . They will stop at nothing to stop Tanner.

I liked the characters and thought they were developed well. The story was well written and fast moving. A very entertaining read.

Love English detective novels, have read over 100 of them. This is a mixed English/American conglomeration and I can honestly say I didn’t care for it at all. It was tedious and uninteresting, but that’s just my opinion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paterson and Clocks are back
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 4, 2019
Paterson and Clocks are back so settle down and be ready for an adrenaline pumping read.

This is book 4 and although the books work as stand-alone you will enjoy it more if you read them in sequence. Unique characters and engaging story lines with twists and turns all the way through make for an intense page turner that I highly recommend for readers who like dark thrillers.

Paterson is a wealthy upper class Detective Superintendent who rose through the ranks via a fast track system. Clocks in contrast is a working class Londoner who has made detective by climbing the ranks as a result of hard work. In book one the two clashed each resenting the other Clocks thought Paterson a 'posh git' and Paterson thought Clocks uncouth and tactless. They have developed their relationship from resenting each other to a very effective working partnership each having the other's back 100%.

The story begins as they board a plane to New York chasing Albert Tanner following a turf war in book 3. Clocks had me laughing before he had got off the plane. They arrive at JFK airport and the action starts with a chase followed by explosions. It is game on and everyone is in danger.

Will they catch Tanner or lose their lives? You will have to read the book to find out. What I can tell you is that this is an absolutely gripping read that I couldn't put down and I doubt you will be able to either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Across the pond
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 12, 2020
The hunt for paedophile and murderer Albert Tanner takes Patterson & Clocks to America, accompanied by Lyndsey & Wallace - Clocks policewoman girlfriend and former Chief of the British Police Force respectively.
Tanner greets them with exploding waste bins at JFK. The FBI who are liasing with the British officers, immediately call it a terrorist attackb whereas Patterson & Clocks try to explain it was a greeting for the brits from Tanner.
It seems that Ruby, Tanner's daughter has been running the American side of the kiddie porn and prostitution business. Including exclusive clubs, where children can be ordered to clients specifications. It caters for all perversions and tastes - murder of said children is allowed if the customer wishes to finish his session that way.
The more the brits learn the angrier they become, and although there are casualties on each side, Tanner seems to escape unscathed every time.
    A good read.
