About the author

Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.
Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.
Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.
Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2021Wonderful and humorous story. Great characters. Story flows smoothly and has twists and turns. I did not want to put the book down until the last page and then I was sad it ended. Spirit uplifting story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019An entertaining read with a marvellous heroine in Clementine. Lord Sothern do ant com off quite as well. For a man of 30 he is rather emotionally immature and his temper sometimes verges on cruelty. In one way, I suppose, this leaves room for growth, but his volte face at the end is rather sudden.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2020I enjoyed this romance about a runaway who ends up being befriended by the hero's grandmama. Quite an action packed plot with some interesting characters. A good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2025Overall, I really did enjoy the story. It really draws you in. There were a few times that I did not understand what just happened during a social situation (and I love reading historical romances) so I told myself that I would just finish the chapter and move on to another book but before I knew it, I read another 2 chapters. I didn’t care much for the ending. It was very rushed.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2019The story was okay, but it almost read like a novella, where everything has to be tied up quickly. I really enjoy most of Elizabeth Bailey's books, but this one was just okay.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2017A delightful read with an engaging heroine, delicious hero and wonderful supporting cast. I particularly liked grandmama. In addition to Ms Bailey's always witty dialogue and perfectly rendered historical setting, this one has a fast paced plot, a horrible set of villains and a lovely romance. What more can you want?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2017This was a cute story and remained clean which was nice. This IS in the style of Georgette Heyer. PG rated.
For readers who want a clean author, this is hit and miss. So check the reviews carefully.
This book is a clean fun read and for those that enjoy something that isn't tainted with today's morals, you will enjoy this one. With the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019In an era when it was commonplace for the grooms of the nobility to marry younger brides, not only to beget heirs but to enhance their worth or property and riches and/orr noble contacts and influence, it is gratifying to read about couples finding their destiny within that world. You are a master of detail that gives your readers the impression that they are real people with real problems. Keep up the magic for us all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable
Another excellent story from Elizabeth, well written and with an interesting plot. 'Jake' Lord Sothern, was a bit of a rogue and a 'ladies man' until he met Clementina, a sweet young lady on the run and in need of protection. 'Jake's ' grand mama Lady Staplegrove, was a wily older lady of the beau monde and a bit of a manipulator to boot, and played a large part in the story. 'Jake's ' mistress also plays quite a large part in the story, beautiful, but not a nice person and although married was very fond of male 'attention' quite sad really!!! Add to the mix a convoluted inheritance and greedy relatives and the story proved to be a thoroughly good romp with a romance. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet, well-written romance
This sweet little novella with beautifully drawn out characters and their sizzling chemistry was just what I needed to come back from my reading slump!
Elizabeth Bailey's writing never disappoints!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like Georgette Heyer
This will not be the last book by Bailey that I will read. The original plot, intriguing characters, humourous and witty dialogue were a pleasure to read throughout the entire book. No slipping into gratuitous sex as so many modern Regency authors do. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another feisty heroine kept me up reading till the small hours!
I chose five stars for this fabulous if far- fetched tale because it engaged me fully from the first page and I was looking for another feisty heroine after Mademoiselle at Arms (Another Elizabeth Bailey gorgeous romping tale). This one certainly delivers the goods and the truth is I found it impossible to put down,
What I particularly enjoyed apart from the gorgeous lively interchanges between the lovers were Ms. Bailey's descriptions of the street scenes in Regency London. Her writing is descriptive and so full of life that you are transported to another world.
A great story that delivers everything one wants from a Regency Romance!

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet story
Very simple but intriguing tale of lovers who are crossed in true Georgette Heyer style and after many ups and downs they..........well you have to read it to see if it's going to be a happy ending. Loved this readable and entertaining book
