Swallow: A Forbidden Desires Spin-Off Story Kindle Edition
Meek, subservient, and eager to please, Wally Brand doesn’t doubt the tales he’s been told of the cruel and deceitful Amethyst clan, so when he’s forcibly taken from his home and entrusted to Grimbold Drake—the most powerful Amethyst dragon of all—he knows he won’t be long for this world. Only there’s a gleam in Grimbold’s eyes when he looks Wally’s way and a tenderness to his touch that Wally can’t understand.
All he knows is one thing: whether Grimbold means him harm or not, if he can be good to his dragon captor, maybe, just maybe, he’ll get out of this mess alive.
Swallow is a 30,000 word steamy romance set following the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains a broken young man who badly needs love, a curmudgeonly dragon with a heart of gold, new nicknames, familiar faces, and the sweetest dog known to dragonkind. For maximum enjoyment, Swallow is best read as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.

About the author

Piper Scott’s love of reading began at age ten, when she discovered that the magical worlds in adult fantasy novels were way more exciting than playground politics. As she grew up, so did her reading habits, and now not only does she like to read books on the steamy side, but she loves to write them, too.
A Canadian by birth but an American by marriage, Piper currently resides in Southern Illinois, where she leads a quiet life with her husband, their three dogs, a very demanding cat, and her office mate—her pet rabbit.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2020Swallow is the fourth book in the Forbidden Desires series, a paranormal series with dragon shifters and A/B/O dynamics. Although this book states it is the first book in the Forbidden Desires Spin-Off series, I fully suggest reading the previous three books of the Forbidden Desires series.
Swallow is a short novella that features Grimbold Drake and Wally, the shy omega who’s been abused as he grew up. Grimbold and Wally’s relationship was sweet and delightful and I really enjoyed this book. The story was well crafted with sweet moments and some great sexy scenes.
The audiobook was narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo who narrated the previous books in the series. Michael did a great job with this narration and performed the book well. I really enjoyed listening to this book and was engaged with the story the entire time.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2022This is the first time in the series I was cheated with pages, because their story deserved so much more time.
I loved stern Grim who turned out to be anything but when he became mushy Grampa Grim, and fragile Wally who wasn't fragile at all, he had survived so much and was full of determination.
We needed a scene with Wally simply gorging on éclair's, because he was adorable when he was lusting for them.
One of the best things about this book is throwing in some Buffy the vampire slayer and calling Giles an Alpha.
Loved the book, needed more.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2019I've only watched one episode of a Buffy show, years ago, and this book has a ton of Buffy references, plus a lovely quote on personal growth from the series. As a result, I might have missed some jokes. Sadly this book lacks the humor of the others in the series to date. It's hard to do a Dec.-May story involving the young character who has been seriously abused. This story originally looks like it might go into a light bondage-discipline story, but backs off hard--with vomiting and trauma. There is much less inclusion of fun humor relating to the dragon world's exaggerated fairy-tale wealth and hoards and, sadly, no ridiculous pet : ( just an old, arthritic dog. (I was seriously hoping for something odder after the pig, lizard, and peacocks in the trilogy--a hedgehog? a chicken? a llama?). There's some fun pastry references, but this is a pretty straightforward abused boy looking for safety finds a rich, sweet old man. The best humor has to do with all the characters of the original trilogy. This just lacks the high quality of the other three--the actual shared interests of the couples, the fight for what's true and right, and the general slapstick make for absolutely top-notch farce worthy of rereading. This one--not really.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2020I am so loving this world these two authors have created.
This is Grimbold & Walter's story and I'm so happy we get more of Grappy Grimmie. A few easter eggs along the way especially about one of my favorites, Perry.
Walter is a disgrace from the Topaz clan and is brought to Grimbold by Geoffrey. It seems Walter is having a hard time adjusting. Grimbold is full of shame for the way his kind has treated their offspring. But under the same roof and talking to some new friends makes Walter realize that the Amethyst clan are not the evil creatures he was taught. Plus how kind and caring Grimbold has been to him. Grimbold is fighting his feelings, he wants Walter of his own free will not what nature dictates. Some things occur that change and the outcome is beautiful.
Highly recommend this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2023Grimbold is NOT my favorite character. He has said and done some things throughout the series that have made me very upset. However, like Ingrid says in this book, old dragons can change as well as their views and he certainly has. He was so gentle and patient with Wally, who was VERY traumatized by what was done to him by his sire (freaking jerk), but somehow Grim and his dragon knew how to be patient and give Wally exactly what he needed to heal. And Wally is a fierce omega when he is out of his shell, just like Buffy. His magic might be my favorite as it is so cool and unique, but could also be extremely frightening.
This is a great and essential addition to this amazing series, and also a re-read for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2019Grimbold Drake, patriarch of the Drakes and head of the council is the ultimate Alpha, in my oh-so-modest opinion.
He is strong and decisive, careful and sweet, and will do anything for Wally (Walter, NOT Swallow)!
From sitting through re-runs of Buffy, to feeding Wally only the things he likes to eat, to ensuring him that he will never be harmed again...
Yeah, we all kind of need a Grimbold, don't we?
Or just a dragon.
The pairing of Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly is a match made in hoard gold, and we need LOTS more just like this, and I can't wait for more!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2023I do agree and wish it was longer, they're an insufferably cute pairing, but I will add I do think the ending was actually satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars So süß

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Dragon Romance
I absolutely love this series by Piper Scott and Virginia Kelly, so when a novella was announced I was ecstatic. I will admit that I was not the biggest Grimbold fan in the other books so I was a bit concerned. I can say with 100% honesty that he is now one of my favourite dragons ever. Grimbold has been an imposing character in the series. As leader of the amythest clan he is a force to be reckoned with, and having lived for centuries he is a bit set in his ways. New information in the past books has made him realise that their ways need to change. When he is told of Swallow (henceforth known as Walter) by his son, he knows he must play a part in rectifying the wrongs.
Walter - a disgrace found at an abandoned cloister - has had a difficult life. He bears the physical and emotional scars to prove it. He is weary and scared of the alpha he has been placed with, and worries every kindness is a test to which he will be punished. Grimbold originally sets out to help him as a guardian and perhaps friend, but his dragon shows him other plans. As much as he wants to act on these new feelings, it is clear Walter is not ready. If centuries of living have taught Grimbold nothing else, he has patience. With sweet care, loving gestures, and time he is able to show Walter he is not the disgrace he has been labelled his whole life; he is beloved.
Swallow is a great followup of old characters, but also has its own well-developed plot. I was entranced with the hidden depths of Grimbold, and how Walter learned his own self as the book progressed. With enough outside conflict to move the plot and a lot of character development, Swallow is a short but intensely satisfying read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story full of compassion..
Contains: a disgrace with a heavy past, the leader of the council of dragons, alpha-omega bond, heat, mpreg. /b>
Note: do not read as standalone.
TW: past of violence, abuse.
This book is the first in the forbidden series spin off. Short story that reads well.
It's a good read. We discover a skittish character and an alpha with great patience who tries to help as best he can, despite the words used that often lead to confusion. Will he be able to break through the shell around the omega?
I can't say more so as not to spoil your reading, but it was about time the alpha leader got his book . It reveals a more human side, a kinder, more understanding and admirable side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it !
OMG! This series is amazing! Dragon shifters, politics between clans. Wally always had felt unloved, abused and lonely, a disgrace, until he met Grimbold Drake, head of the Council... awesome series

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and heartbreaking
This was such a sweet and hard book. It pushed all my buttons in the right way.
I just wanted to comfort Wally, and give big hugs to Grimbold.
This was amazingly written and so easy to read (and very hard to put down). I would have loved for it to be longer and see even more of these two. They were amazing together. The bond and trust between them was beautiful to read as it slowly grew and solidified. They completed each other in ways that neither excepted or thought they deserved.
Great great read, really recommend
