4.3 out of 5 stars 606 ratings

Three for the price of two. For the first time ever, a handy collection of the first three novellas in the Scottish Werebear series. Titles include An Unexpected Affair, A Dangerous Business, and A Forbidden Love.

Scottish Werebear: An Unexpected Affair

When romance novelist Clarice Adler hides herself away in a secluded holiday cottage to finish a book, the last thing she needs is another relationship. Imagine her surprise when she falls head over heels for the man who runs the place.

Derek McMillan knows Clarice is his mate, but he's a bear shifter, and she's human, and the two simply don't mix. They are literally worlds apart; can they find a way to come together?

Scottish Werebear: A Dangerous Business

As part of the Alliance, bear shifter Aidan McMillan is hunting the Sons of Domnall, a secret society of humans sworn to destroy all shifters. Along comes Heidi Blackwood, his fated mate, and it suddenly becomes nearly impossible to focus on the job.

Scottish Werebear: A Forbidden Love

Alison Campbell has been told that shifters are evil and the world would be a better place without them. In her efforts to infiltrate the Alliance to gather intel for the Sons of Domnall, she comes across Jamie Abbott, bear shifter and Alliance leader, who doesn't seem so bad at all. In fact he seems to be all her heart desires, and the feeling is mutual. Where will her loyalties lie when it becomes time to pick a side once and for all?

The three romances have three different bears finding their mate. The first is a bear and a human. The second is a bear and a wolf. The last is also a bear and a human.

I titled my review of this box set Anchors because all the stories featured shifters who found their mates and the bond anchored them both. First a lonely , solitary bear found his anchor in a human who was also drifting after heartbreak. Then that solitary bear’s brother who was chasing shifter hunters and trying to solve a 15 year old possible murder, finds his anchor in a female wolf shifter. The female wolf finally has a taste of freedom from a rigidly rippled pack and her bear shifter offered her individuality. And last but not least, a bear shifter living with years of guilt finds his anchor in the female that was the cause of his greatest regret. One of the couples ended up with acceptable mates but you can’t fight fate!

I like the idea of acshifter bear, that they would be more of a loner than the wolves, and I love that they know when they meet their forever mate, they know it instantly. They may not be happy about it, it may happen at the wrong time, but they know that this is their mate.

Meh. It was ok. Characters seemed flat, but these were short stories so can’t really fault for lack of development. Each story was a HEA for each couple, but the story plot continues.

I like following stories like this. We follow the pairings of Derek a brown bear with Clarice, a human. Then we meet Derek's brother Aidan. He is a member of the Alliance. They are a network of shifters who fight The Sons of Domnall. These Sons are humans trying kill any shifter they find. So when Aidan finds his mate in Heidi a wolf, he'll do anything to protect her. The last story is their boss Jamie who links with a human who is the daughter of the enemy. She is Alison and he actually met her in the past when he lost his little brother. These were such enjoyable reads.

This series popped up on sale on bookbub and I decided to check them out. I enjoyed the first three books though confused at the endings. I am hoping they all wrap up at some point. I have already downloaded the next part of the series and am excited to read those

These three novels were a good start into the Scottish Werebears Series. Finding their fated mates among different species makes for good reading. The romance was impacted by their instincts. Good storyline too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the time...at all!
Reviewed in Canada on November 16, 2020
The short stories have very little character development, same plot and since there was so little story the ending just no more words. The writing is immature at best and lackluster - at the end it wasn't worth the time. Do not recommend.
