Before I dive into my review, please be mindful that this book is dark and riddled with all kinds of triggers. If you are a sensitive reader, please read the trigger warnings before diving in. J Rose has completely blown my mind away with this second installment of her Blackwood Institute series. She will take everything you thought you knew from the previous book and throw it to the flames with all the twists and rip your heart to pieces with the truths that are revealed. She left me on my knees with the cliffhanger though. Brooklyn remains to be so strong, stronger than what she or her guys realize (except Hudson maybe). The self-sacrificing Hell she goes thru to keep her guys safe is just heart wrenching. But she perseveres thru it all. Kade, Hudson, Phoenix and Eli go thru their own trials - when I say trials, I truly mean it. They realize that something is amiss within the walls of the place that is supposed to be helping heal and they vow to escape the Hell within these walks. One person sacrifices herself to protect the men she loves and they vow to never leave her behind, but will they be able to bring her back from the darkness without drowning themselves in it? J Rose continues to astound me with her talent. She has woven a story of characters I can’t avoid loving and wanting protect from the evils lurking in the wake. This story is dark, gritty, suspenseful and such a mindtrip that is like nothing else I have ever had the joy of reading and I loved every word of it. I couldn’t tear my eyes away at all and I am waiting with bated breath for the conclusion.

    This one kind of dragged for me. It was more focused on Brooklyn and her mental state, rather than her relationship with the guys. There was a lot of plot and story progression. Eli still has my heart. Hudson is starting to grow on me. He’s the only one that won’t give up on the family. I love seeing Phoenix and Eli’s relationship grow as well.

But only the female knows what's up..some are pretending they don't see it... I've only ever wished for characters to *leave their earth* when I read A.A Dark books. But all I wish for the MFC is to remove the bad people in the books by force. But she can't.... and she can't find peace.. I hope it does end in her smiling as she leaves her world for good....If anyone deserves peace. In any book I've every read.. im 33 and I have been reading since I learned words... she deserves it. I honestly don't see Her functioning properly in society. I'll read the 3rd one hoping that they all find peace.. in leaving their earth together or getting justice and getting healthy..

    WOW--This book was a whole new definition of the word “toxic.” I have read so many tropes in my life as a reader, stemming all the way from average-cheating stories to dark-dark-dark. And…I genuinely believe that this series is getting close to the top of that "dark-dark" land.

    This book…it honestly terrified the heck out of me. I am the first one to automatically believe the government has many secrets, so who’s to say that this isn’t one of their secrets?

    Paranoia follows you everywhere at Blackwood Institute. You may think that you’re alone, but you’re not alone in the slightest. There are eyes everywhere, ears everywhere, and you are only fooling yourself if you think that anything will go unpunished—either from your hand or someone else’s.

    While the plot and storyline grip me, this one was definitely a little too drawn out for my liking. However, I’ve made it this far. Book #3, here we come.

    J.Rose is such a talented author and the way she writes such hard topics so beautifully is just incredible. This book was heartbreaking, real and raw and whilst it was hard to read at times, it was worth it in the end.

    My heart broke for these characters so many times during this book. They went through so much and I found myself wanting to protect them all from everything that was going on. The plot was even crazier in this one and after that ending I can’t wait to dive straight into book three to find out where it takes us next.

    This book was definitely DARK and heavy on the mental health representation, pls check TW. In the beginning there was a reference to the Standford prison experiment and I can understand why. Blackwood claimed to be the future of psychiatric care were they treated patients as science projects to create perfect monsters.

    I have to say, because I work in psychiatry, it was sometimes a bit hard to read. But nevertheless I was intrigued by this book and I will finish this series! The ending definitely has something to do with that.. 👀

    what just happened.

    i am in shock, literal shock.

    i started this series thinking it was just going to be a typical RH series; spice, more spice and a plot that’s practically none existent. i was very very wrong.

    the first book i really enjoyed but this one. it blew me away.

    i was originally reading this series for the romance (aka the smut😏) but am now fully invested in this plot. it’s crazy. i still don’t know what happened.

    the last 100 pages of this i was quite literally on the edge of my seat. think you know everything then bam, plot twist. i was reading it in college and had to stop or i would have burst into tears it was so raw and beautiful and heartbreaking.

    this book definitely focuses more on the plot that the characters unlike the first one, and i am so not mad. don’t get me wrong, there is still a lot of relationship stuff going on (😏) that got me hot and bothered more than a few times.

    unlike a lot of RH novels, the characters in this book have an incredible emotional bond between all five of them and the angst and twistedness of them all is 😙👌

    i don’t understand how no one talks about this book, it’s a literal masterpiece. seriously. it has become one of my favourite reads so far and i am truly in love. i can’t explain the feeling it gave me while reading it.

    it’s extremely dark and full of triggers so check warnings but if you can you have to read this. even if you don’t like RH. it doesn’t read like a typical RH at all. and if you read the first one and are debating on whether to carry on, TRUST ME it is 10000% worth it.
