Four Campers experience the unimaginable...

As they exchange legends about the mysterious mountain, something appears from the woods which defies all logic...

SETI Institute: A signal from deep space is detected...

Meanwhile SETI scientist and exo-solar planet hunter, Dr Lucy Davies, is monitoring the array of computer screens in front of her whilst carrying out a routine E.T signal sweep, when one of the screens starts flashing. Whilst it appears to emanate from space, it actually terminates at a remote location in the Cascade Mountain Range of the western USA - an area known as Cobalt Ridge.

NASA and SETI scientists baffled…

As NASA and SETI scientists scramble to determine if the signal is genuine, and what it might mean, Tom and his friends, along with a British T.V. film crew, set off on a mission to search for two members of their team, missing since the incident in the woods. Having to avoid the U.S. Military now closing down the area, they slowly but surely start making startling discoveries and uncover more clues as to what might be going on. Their search leads them down a remote series of old mining tunnels towards the base of Mount Shasta, but what they eventually discover there shocks them. The scientific community are not only stunned, but are as scared as hell...

With literally hundreds of people mysteriously vanishing in US National Parks, Salient is a fast-paced, unputdownable science fiction action thriller which will keep you up late into the night...

From the Author

SALIENT is a fast paced mystery thriller with a science fiction theme, mixing myth and legend with action and adventure. Mount Shasta and the Cascade Mountain Range is where pilot Kenneth Arnold, back in 1947, claimed to see a string of nine, shiny unidentified flying objects flying past Mount Rainier at speeds of 1,200 miles an hour. The term 'Flying Saucer' was coined as a result.

About the Author

Si Rosser is the author of the Robert Spire action-adventure thrillers. Eco-terrorism thrillers with cataclysmic themes; Tipping Point, Impact Point, Melt Zone and then Cataclysm of the Ancients. He has recently released espionage thriller Red Mist. Salient is his 9th novel and as soon as it has been released, the author will be starting on the next Robert Spire thriller for release in mid 2018.

I've enjoyed it each time, it's fast paced and packed with action. I've never really cared for sci-fi but this story held my attention until the very end. I'm a person who likes to go camping in tents a lot and I'd never would read a book like this before or during a camping trip. It would scare the bejesus out of me. Happy reading!

I read this book in one day. The plot, which starts a bit thin, picks up as it goes along, and does deliver serious action. It also drops us at the end, leaving as many questions as we had at the beginning. I suspect Mr. Rosser had a second book in mind, since he leaves so many questions unanswered at the end.
The plot revolves around four college students who have come to Mt. Shasta to camp out. As a stranger to that part of the U.S., I turned to Wikipedia to look it up and found the camping area the author was referring to. Having done that, his description of the park came to life for me, and as a long-time camper myself, I was there. So I was ready for the night sounds to spook our students, and their conversation about Bigfoot. (About that time, I very nearly quit reading, having NO belief in large shaggy humanoids. But stick with it, th plot is now beginning.)
What Mr. Rosser is positing is that aliens have set up a monitoring station in this remote wilderness, and (probably by accident) the Bigfoots are coming from our deep past through a machine within this station. He missed a bet with this plot device; it might very well be that they are being pulled from our deep past to keep people away from the site, and considering his idea that the aliens are monitoring us, it would be as reasonable as his suggestion that our long history of war against our own planet and one another are at the root of the need of surveillance.
It's a little sketchy, and a little uneven in the writing, but I did enjoy the book. The author needs to flesh out his main characters more fluidly, and brush up his dialog, but it's a good story and moved well for the most part. I'd go for a 'next book.'

Salient was an interesting mix of folklore and science fiction blending two of mans biggest questions into one genius story. I wanted to read it all at once. This was the perfect book to get back to reading with. It was quick and interesting with the right amount of mystery. This is a book to read when you want to escape the real world. I throughly enjoyed it.

Wow, thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced another brilliant book by Simon Rosser. My only problem is that the ending was up in the air, some plot points like the moon astronauts fate , were the creatures from the past or aliens?, I'm hoping there's a part two just to round it up. Don't get me wrong this didn't stop me enjoying this book as I have with all his books so far

I really enjoyed Salient and read it in one sitting. The author managed to include several concepts of extraterrestrial theory and Yeti in one story. I could mentally imagine it as a science fiction movie as I was reading it. And again I ask - what if it is true???

Salient portrays the results we can expect when our galactic neighbors grow weary of the carbon footprint we continue to impose on them. A tale of the rekindled mortal threats that face a group of campers amidst the stomping grounds of ancient creatures, Rosser's depiction of the impact of planetary depredation makes for a fast-paced, exciting read.

The dialogue is stilted and almost written for a juvenile audience. The plot became rather predictable and the ending left much up in the air.

Made for an intereting read. I like the environmentally-focused plot line.

Rosser needs better editing as small errors and inconsistencies detract from the story line.

A short, fast-paced and easy read with an intriguing concept at its heart.

Not my usual read, but a spur of the moment purchase and I am pleased to have done so.

Enjoyable, thought provoking and stimulating - and chillingly real enough to possibly be true.

I'll read some more of this author.
