    I loved Sarah and Philips story. Philip had his eye on Sarah and when she accidentally came upon him in the library at a ball she couldn’t be more startled and happy. When Sarah walked through that door he was elated, he stalked her and she had her first kiss with him.
    He stated to court her but then he abruptly compromised her sister Amelia and was engaged to her. Then her sister abruptly died and she wanted nothing by revenge on him.
    But everything Sarah thought she knew apparently was a lie. How can two people who have been hurt and one by her whole family find each other again.
    A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.

    Please Note: This novella was originally published in THE MIDNIGHT HOUR: ALL HALLOWS' BRIDES... A Collection of Gothic Regency Romance Tales. Which is a little strange considering this story didn't feel at all gothic to me. It's also connected to Ms. Scott's "Sins and Scoundrels" series as both the main characters from PRINCE OF PERSUASION (Book 2) play an important role and the hero from DUKE OF DEBAUCHERY (Book 5) appears as well, although he's a bachelor at the time.

    My Opinion: I always enjoy stories where first loves get a second chance so I was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately after the prologue Sarah turns into a bit of a shrew. Though seemingly justified she will uncover a bitter betrayal that proves otherwise. Sadly this didn't make it always easy to like her, though I tried to understand where she was coming from. Philip on the other hand was the perfect hero. A man who falls head over heels for his lady and never stops loving her even when he thinks they have no chance of a future together.

    For a novella I thought the characters were pretty well fleshed and while their road to happiness was a difficult one filled with strife, it was entirely well deserved nonetheless. Both of their lives were upended by the selfish acts of another, and I was so glad to see love win out in the end. I wasn't a fan if the final chapter however which was just one overlong sex scene. I don't really think this story needed it since the passion and desire between Sarah and Philip shone through loud and clear. Overall it was still a fast paced and entertaining romance 😊

    Setting: England, 1812... With a prologue two years earlier.
    Length: The story ended at the 89% mark on page 99 and location 1268.

    I loved this book. The MMC and FMC were lovely together. It was so touching how the hero pined after and wanted the girl - even after 2 years. I found it a bit frustrating he didn’t try to explain things to her at some point instead of just allowing her to believe lies. That was a small point. Besides that, I enjoyed the book and want to continue with the series!
