Scarlet Sun: A Friends-to-Lovers F/F Romance Novel (Sapphic Summer) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 101 ratings

A road trip with your best friends sounds like a great idea… Until someone catches feelings.

It’s only been two weeks since April has come home from college for summer break and she’s already starting to lose it. With her friends spread out over the province, April has already resigned herself to a very boring four months alone.

But when she finds an old list of twenty things she wanted to complete before she turned twenty, it looks like her summer plans may have just flipped upside down. With her twentieth birthday quickly approaching, the clock is ticking to finish everything on the list.
Skinny dipping. Camp in Algonquin. Fall in love. Can she manage it all in one summer?

A road trip across the country with her best friends seems like the only way she’ll finish everything. There’s only one problem: one of those friends is Bree, a girl that April is quickly developing a hopeless crush. April doesn’t want to ruin the best friendship she has ever had, but it’s killing her to keep her feelings to herself and she doesn’t know if she can manage it for the whole trip.

Maybe going from friends to lovers wouldn’t be as bad as she once thought…

Scarlet Sun is a 50k word best-friends-to-lovers romance, with a Happily Ever After ending. It features a lesbian protagonist, a trans lesbian love interest, and many other sapphic characters. Filled with hilarious banter and hijinks, it is sure to put a smile on your face.

I really enjoyed this book. It was light and fun. I gave it 4 stars for the spelling and grammar errors, wasn't too bad, but it was noticable. I wanted to give it a full 5 stars for a trans character alone. I was so happy to see that, and not make it all about her being trans. It was mentioned a couple of times, it fit the story, it was perfect. I definitely recommend this book.

I loved how they were all friends and wanted to finish the list of things to do before the age of 20 that one of them made. I thought it was wonderful that two of the girls they fell in love with each other.

Was it really a Sapphic thing? And why even mention a transgender person since you couldn't even describe her/him body. Even though this was well written story about five friends summer vacation, it lacked any real passion.

I have to admit I'm so glad I'm not as young as the women in this book. All the angst and anxiety, trying to figure out relationships and just life! The author tied it all together into a cute, sweet book.

Five friends go on a road trip to finish a bucket list that one wrote of things to accomplish before her twentieth birthday. When the fall in love item begins to happen it makes it a very interesting trip. Great short story.

April has just returned home after her first year away at college. As she is cleaning her room she finds a bucket list of 20 things to do before 20 that she wrote down when she was younger.
After a meeting with her friends, in which the list turns out to be a subject of conversation, they all decide that they will help April accomplish all the remaining items by the end of the summer, when April reaches her 20s. Thus, they end up on a road trip all together. A trip with your best friends seems like a great idea, but when April starts to have a crush on Bree, spending a great deal of time around her becomes cpmplicated, especially since April knows how badly things can end when you decide to date someone in your friend group.
Will April be able to ignore her growing feelings for Bree and continue to just be her friend, or will she let herself go, especially when she realizes that maybe the feeling is mutual?

This book was pretty quick to read and the romance was very cute.
I loved the summer vibe and the friendship atmosphere.
The group of friends of the main character (April) is fantastic. Not to mention the representation. Everyone in the group belongs to the LGBTQ+ community: April is a lesbian, Bree (the main character's romantic interest) is a lesbian and is trans, Harlee is also a lesbian, Kiara is bisexual and grey-assexual, and Elyssa is pansexual and demi-girl.
They are all very different, which makes the interactions between them very entertaining.
I really loved the idea of going on a road trip, it is something I want to do someday with my group of friends as well.
April was very relatable. It was very funny and sometimes embarrassing to see the way she acted with Bree.
It has a very satisfying scene in which it is revealed to the reader in which way each of the characters identify as, which filled my heart, to see the way they all felt represented.

Overall it was a very enjoyable and attention grabbing read.
I think the reason I didn't give it a higher rating was that the ending was a bit rushed.

Interested in reading future releases by the author.

Isabel Hansen has delivered a fantastic New Adult story with Scarlet Sun. This friends to lovers road trip romance is sweet and funny. The characters are delightful and I loved all the hijinks as April and her friends try to complete her teenage bucket list before she turns 20, all while trying to fight her developing feelings for her friend Bree.

The story is absolutely adorable. Five university friends crossing Canada together, full of bonding, shenanigans, and even romance. While mostly lighthearted there were a few heavier parts that really rounded out and enriched the story.

This cast of queer characters is super fun. Each of these five girls adds something all their own to the story. I loved getting to know them and how they interacted with each other. Kiara, Harlee, and Elyssa are wonderful characters and friends. April is sweet but surly, she spends most of the story trying to fight her growing feelings for adorable Bree. Bree is an absolute cinnamon roll.

Hansen Delivered tons of queer rep in a casual way that was very satisfying. Trans, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, Grey Ace. All of the different characters just are what they are. Their queerness is a part of who they are but not the entirety of their personalities just like in real life. It felt very natural.

The romance between April and Bree is super sweet. The way their friendship blossomed into something more was gradual and very cute. I loved rooting for these two cuties through all the miscommunications, adorable awkwardness, past hurt, and heartwarming attraction.

This story is super sweet and super fun. A heartwarming coming of age, friends to lovers romance. Sure to take you are an emotional rollercoaster.

Why is it so hard to tell someone you like then tell them you love them? You take a risk they feel differently... I do feel the plot was not really though out as well as it could be. It felt like things just happened. There was an HEA but it felt dortbof forced. Maybevits just college kids but....
