But for Claudia, it was a one-night stand. An opportunity to blow off the cobwebs following her divorce from Jack, and her impending redundancy.
Scarlett had just been a fascinating experience she would think of now and then because Claudia is straight, and Scarlett was a one-off. Right? I mean, who gets to her age and suddenly discovers they might be into women?
As a mother to three grown children, Claudia already has enough on her plate, when her eldest Diana asks for a favour. Her best friend from Uni needs a place to stay for a few days. Claudia agrees to take her in, after all, her youngest, Zara, is already home for the week, what harm could it be?

Claire Highton-Stevenson is a British Indie author. She writes heartwarming, Sapphic romance in contemporary settings. Claire's characters are bold, strong, independent women who love women.

However, she is also known to throw in a mystery or two. Claire likes to move around the tropes at will, and will often bend the rules to create exciting and often unique situations. She's not afraid to tackle darker topics either.

The trouble with Claire Highton-Stevenson’s books is you get absolutely nothing done, I was delighted to see a new book by this author was released. I started it and finished it literally in a single sitting. So worth the late night of reading and the too early, groggy morning wake up! 😉

As always this author has a way of really connecting the reader to the characters. Claudia & Scarlett our written well with their own unique personalities that interact with each other and with all the secondary characters to make an enjoyable story. (with out giving any of the story away) I found as always with her books, I can't stop reading, totally immersed and hoping, hoping for a happy outcome. Another must read from this Author ✍️ Don't ever stop writing! 5⭐️

I found this book very humorous and entertaining. I really liked all the characters in this story, especially Claudia and Scarlett who's real name is Letty. I liked that the author not only allowed the readers to enjoy hearing from Claudia but also from Scarlett. This made the story even better knowing what they were feeling for each other. I think the ending was lacking just a little. It was barely discussed what Scarlett planned on doing. Was she going to start her own business and how? Though this didn't change my opinion of this story. I whole heartily recommend this book to everyone that loves an age gap romance.

It was really nice to read a true age-gap lesfic story. I like reading of the women being in their 50’s. Usually age gap are women in their 20’s and 30’s. That’s not really an age gap to me. It is when they’re from different generations.

I liked Claudia from first meet. And then when she had a chance meet with Scarlett I was not sure how the two would find themselves entangled. It was rather steamy and unforgettable. Scarlett was way more mature than some women her age. But when you meet her parents and hears about her line of work it will make sense.

I guess you had to add a lot angst to the story. Claudia three adult kids were sort of a monkey wrench in Claudia feeling free to explore a possible relationship after being married for 30 years. There is so much to unpack in all of their lives. But love wins out in the end as it should.

I was so hoping for a HEA for Claudia, but even more so for Scarlett. She loves hard and gave it her all. She fought hard for this relationship. She received her just rewards.

Based on the cover- I was expecting a hot, sexy, sultry type of romance...

    And it was!

It was a lot more than that, though! There were so many great, wholesome characters in this story. I mean, Claudia and Scarlett were amazing, but the characters surrounding them truly made this a lighthearted romcom. It was a toaster oven, age-gap, forbidden romance, so there was some drama, but Claudia's daughter, Zara, kept everything fun and entertaining 😊

A fantastic read... can't wait to dive into the next book!

Light hearted, not angsty compared to other books I’ve read.

And I was a little skeptical if I could finish it because it’s an age gap story and so far the ones I’ve read in the past few months made me cringe or eye roll and just not finish the book.

But this is actually believable and I found myself laughing at the banter (not only between the two main characters )that I had to hight light those moments. I enjoyed Bea’s little lesbian joke and I won’t spoil it. Will use that in a conversation. ;)

Book needs a bit of editing, still. But well done Claire. I’m going to seek out more of your books.

Claudia Maddox is out with friends for a night on the town. At a club for lesbians she meets a woman much younger and has a one night fling. Divorced with three adult children she is completely thrown by how much she enjoyed her first encounter with a woman. When Scarlett shows up at her house because her daughter, Diana, is her best friend, they are both thrown for a loop. Age gap romance with lots of steam and laughter. Loved it.

Scarlett Fever was a good read. I like the story and it's plot but I wish the love scenes were a little bit spicier or more detailed.
  • Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2023
But the book was way too hectic, had too many arcs and had too many characters. There were too many scenes of the main characters trying to hide their relationship that were maybe supposed to be funny? The whole job and consequent redundancy part of the book should have been left out. It wasn't needed for the story. The MC could have just had the friends she hung out with because the job situation didn't seem to have any affect on her standard of living.
I won't keep going on ad nauseam. I liked the relationship but all the stuff going on around it was distracting at best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel good book

I really love this book and therefore it lands on my "read again list". It's been quite a while that a book made it on that list. The story is not new but it turns out a bit differently than stories with a similar storyline. In this book family, friends and MCs have a deep, loving, respectful connection. Therefore there is no unnecessary drama. They just communicate and listen to each other. Even when hurt about the other persons behaviour they listen and let the other person explain why they did what they did. That was very refreshing for me. I also liked that the characters in this book stay true to themselves throughout the whole book. That means, an open, loving character does not suddenly become judgemental and cruel.
So for me it is a really entertaining book with a lot of funny and also a lot of hot scenes. It left me in a good mood and I appreciate when a book does that. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this. The writing style was perfect, easy to fall into and gripping enough not to put down!

This spicy little number, features an age gap, toaster style romance between divorcee Claudia and art therapist, Scarlett. Claudia was out on the tiles, having fun with friends when she meets Scarlett. After a fun night together, a chance encounter brings them into each other’s orbit and has them questioning whether the one night remains that way or if there could be more.

I loved the self assurance Claudia possesses in every aspect of her life. The undeniable attraction and chemistry between her and Scarlett jumps off the page. Scarlett has such wonderful integrity that you know she deserves happiness.

What worked so well in this book, was that it was relatively low angst. It was a delightful read that brought moments of very British humour whilst carving some beautiful characters.

The spice is spicing too, so, especially as it’s on KU, definitely worth a read!
