Scored: Sexy Sporting Romance Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 113 ratings

She's all about the story, he's all about the game. But which story will be told and how risky will the game get?

Okay, so I eat, sleep and breathe football and reporting the beautiful game is my dream career. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have time for a major crush on the England captain, Lewis Tate. The bloke is sex on legs, hot with a capital H. Add in his awe-inspiring talent, his brooding good looks and what’s not to drool over?

So my excitement is sky-high as I set off with the official press team to cover England’s battle for the European Cup. But when a series of unfortunate, or as it turns out fortunate events, attracts Tate’s attention my way, who am I to say no?

Add in a misogynistic manager, an over-zealous colleague, two blue silk ties and some incredible ball-handling skills and it becomes clear the road to victory, for me, will be an intensely romantic journey. Determined to savor every moment, I hang onto my sanity as best I can while living the fantasy and wondering if it can ever become reality. Because once Lewis Tate has taken me to heaven and back, its clear no one else will ever compare.

It has come to my attention that I have been very remiss in my book reviewing duties when it comes to one of my all time favorite books and my number one book boyfriend, Lewis Tate. It seems while I have done a video book review for Scored, I never did a written one and I'm here to rectify this appalling lack of a review.

Where do I even start with this book? It's probably one of the sexiest books that I've ever read and one that I've reread at least 4 or 5 times. Every time I want something that really sizzles I pick up Scored by Lily Harlem. Why? because Lily writes erotic romance like no other author I've ever read. She brings her characters to life and she makes you feel what they feel every step of the way.

With Scored, I loved Nicky as she is making her way and trying to make her mark in the man's world of sports journalism. It's all about the game for her and when she is commanded by her boss to dig up the dirt on the players she's been sent to cover, she refuses. Instead she focuses on the game and in doing so gains the attention of the delicious team captain Lewis Tate. Nicky is one of the most likable heroines I have ever read. She's got integrity, she's sweet, she's nice and she finds herself in a rather clandestine relationship which brings back many memories of my own courtship to the love of my life. I guess that's part of the reason why this story resonates so much with me. There are many elements of the story that are a reflection of my life which brings back some very lovely, very nostalgic memories.

Which brings me to Lewis Tate, all round sexy as all get out, team captain and general nice guy. That's the thing about Lewis. He's a nice guy and when Nicky asks him why he is visiting her, I loved his very simple and endearing response. "I'm just a guy who likes a girl, Nicky. That's why I'm here." How do you not love that response from a guy, who then goes on to say, "It's been a long time since I've met anyone who's been my last thought as I"ve gone to sleep and my first thought each morning." He's a sexy athlete with endless stamina, and he's willing to go to many lengths and break a few rules to be with the girl he's fallen for. It all just makes my heart melt.

I adore this story. If anyone asks me to recommend a sizzling hot erotic romance or asks what my favorite erotic romance is, the answer will always be Scored by Lily Harlem.

Lily, just remember, I saw him first and I've got dibs! I'm not sharing. Tell the other girls to back off and go find someone else! Thank you for writing such a delicious man.

As a girl who also loves sports, including football (American), the concept of this book was rather interesting to me. SO many people associate sports with men that they often fail to realize that there are woman who not only like them, but love them.

Now, I will be the first one to admit that I know absolutely nothing about soccer, or as the rest of the world calls it "Football," but I enjoyed having it as the backdrop of the story.

Famous, high profile, sexy soccer player and a woman who is determined to make it in a man's world of sports reporting. A book that shows the downside of fame, the upside of hard work and the loneliness of both. Assumptions are made, secrets are kept and lines are crossed, all while a journey into the unknown is embarked on by two people who really should be staying away from each other.

Attraction is evident, feelings are growing and love is inevitable. The key to making this work is to tread carefully, keep winning games and ensure that nothing is leaked out for the world to see. Not an easy task, especially when two people are keeping secrets, sneaking around and on the receiving end of threats.

I admired Nicky's resilience and her ethics. While she was more inclined to be able to get the inside scoop in the ins and outs of the team and specific players, she never once used Lewis' affections to her advantage and always kept it professional and honest. Have to admire a person who is not willing to compromise who she is as a person to gain leverage in a profession where her fellow reporters are against her and use inside and first hand knowledge to play dirty. While some would do that, she was always on the high road.

I also had a soft spot for Lewis. His personality was quiet, brooding and surly, but you knew that there was much more to him than that. His concern for Nicky before and even after they hooked up was touching, especially when he spoke of making sure she was okay with how he was and how he treated her. It was like he was waiting for her to be turned off by him and he seemed legitimately concerned about her changing her mind about him.

Watching them explore each others likes and dislikes was fun for me. Perhaps it was the exotic nature of the backdrop of all those foreign lands, or maybe it was the lack of familiarity of the UK foundation...or it could have been the fact that I was actually getting excited to see if they continued to win the games and make it to the finals. After all, there truly was a lot on the line. It all added up to a pretty sweet read for me.

I am not sure if this is part of a series or a standalone, but if there is more to come, I just might find myself learning more about soccer.

This was my first book by Lily Harlem and I loved it. It's also my first sport-related story. I loved the characters in this book. Let's first start with Nicky Thomas. She is a female sports reporter for a magazine called Kick. She is the only female reporter amongst the sports reporters. She has been given the chance of a lifetime to follow the soccer team (England's footballers) as it battles for the European Cup. She will also get to follow Lewis Tate. He is the captain of the team and she has a secret crush on him.

Lewis Tate is sexy and a very confident footballer. At first he seems hard around the edges but once you get to know him, he is soft in the middle and very sexy. While playing, the players are restricted to certain areas of the hotel and are kept away from distraction of the female kind. Well fate played a role and put Nicky in the hotel room next to Lewis. That first elevator ride was hot!

This was thrilling (soccer games), sexy (footballers) and sensual (elevator kiss). Ms. Harlem words jumped on the page for me. I am a fan of her work now. I'm off the find more. I highly recommendation this for the sports fan in all of us.

Wow, wow, wow!! I loved this so much.
Nicky Thomas is a female sports journalist. I adored how strong she was and stuck to her moralistic guns.
Lewis Tate is the England football captain and officially my new number one BBF.
The story is a beautiful romance that had me sighing out loud and caused many a raised eyebrow from my husband.
Even the football part of the story had me gripped!
I absolutely adored this book and I know for a fact it will be a go to book for me when I want an uplifting story to make me smile and swoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love, lust and a few mishaps.....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 14, 2013
    Format: KindleVerified Purchase
I received this review copy free of charge in return for an honest review.

When Nicky was given the opportunity to follow the England squad abroad and get the insider scoop, it didn't take her long to grab it with both hands.
She was passionate about the game of football and privately held a bit of a fancy for the England captain Lewis Tate, so this was a dream come true for her. Not only would she get to witness some great matches, but she also had the chance to question a few of the players ....especially Lewis Tate.
Despite her best efforts, things never seem to run smooth for Nicky and she certainly encounters her fair share of mishaps ranging from dealing with her unruly hair to the inconsiderate (yet hilariously funny) timing of 'Big Ben'.
Nicky manages to attract the attention of several of the England squad, not least by their manager who takes an instant disliking to her, but her mind is full of one man and one man only ...Lewis Tate.
Will she manage to snare her prey or will the warnings from the manager persuade her to steer clear?

This is yet another amazingly heart-warming read from Lily. Nicky is such a likable character and very easy to relate to, I mean, we've all had that one day when we've ran into Mr Hunk dressed in our rags with no make-up and hair in curlers right?? Oh, is that just me then? lol
I love the way Scored is written in the first person as it gives a far better understanding of Nickys personality and her thoughts ....which at times, had me in stitches, and I even learned a thing or two about football as Lily writes with such great in-depth knowledge.
A beautiful tale of love, romance and gutsy determination with a few steamy sex scenes thrown in for good measure.

Nicky sports reporter for "Kick" magazine gets sent to cover England's football team playing in the European Cup. At the first press conference before the team head out, Nicky has a difficult time asking a question. The Engalnd manager doesn't seem to like women, there are no wives or girlfriends going along, and it seems that extends to female reporters, but Nicky makes her presence felt and insists on asking her question. She catches the eye of team captain Lewis Tate.

When her room at the hotel is double booked, her editor manages to get her a room in the same place that the England team are staying. This is where she next meets Lewis Tate in the lift. Nicky is surprised that his room is opposite hers, but he's only on her floor temporarily while a problem with his suite is fixed. From then on their paths cross more often, and Nicky finds herself drawn more and more to Lewis

Lovely romantic story that is sexy and very sensual. I liked the characters especially Nicky she was a girl with integrity, but sweet. Some of the things that happen to her are quite funny. Lewis was sex on legs, very handsome and irresistible. The love scenes were hot and passionate. With a fine cast of supporting characters made this a satisfying read. I liked the cover, the guy on the front looks to me very much like a player who once played for England.
