About the author

Max is a published author of varying genres including historicals, a contemporary thriller, and a western.
He has lived all over the world, from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to Townsville, Queensland, Australia; from Gerrard’s Cross in England to Kingston, Jamaica; from Düsseldorf in Germany to Wellington, New Zealand; from Antwerp in Belgium to Collinsville, Illinois, USA.
Max has a Master’s degree, with Honours, in Plant Physiology, and has worked as a university lecturer and demonstrator, a research scientist, a school teacher, a technician, a quotes officer for a microscopy supply house, an assistant manager at Walmart and Max has even caught bumblebees for a living.
Max's main occupation these days is as an author. Having always had a great love of history and recently discovering writing, it made perfect sense combining the two, writing historical fiction – from ancient Egypt to World War II – but he is not limited to that genre. He has also tried his hand at horror, paranormal and westerns, and has plans to write fantasy and science fiction.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2013I have become a great fan of Mr Overton's works. His ability to take one to another time in history enthralls me and I loved this series as much as his other books. There is something unique about Mr Overton's style that constantly surprises the reader. I find his stories unpredictable, even when the element of historical fact may be known, who knows what is to become of his characters. I hope he continues to write as I am a ready and willing reader, and judging by Mr Overton's reviews, I am not the only one.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2014After the warfare & wanderings on the Scythian Plains our hero returns to the Macedonian army in Babylon and reconnects with the great Alexander and company. Although this movement causes a sea-change in the thrust of the previous two novels in the series, in that the military action is much reduced and is replaced by way more political in-fighting and intrigue; I felt that this change of direction would be a winner and I do believe this was the best of the trilogy.
Characters were very well presented, especially the true historical ones. They came over as interesting and, more importantly, believable. The story whilst a little rushed at the end, does give the trilogy reasonable closure and I particularly enjoyed the historical postscript that gave a great scenario of the actual consequences for the real characters in the years that followed these events.
Satisfying final part in the series. Well done Mr. Overton.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2014A pretty fun series, and possibly better than a 3 star rating. It's interesting, but predictable at times. Decent, but not great, writing. Overall, worth a read but not something you put in your "take with me in case I get stranded on a desert island" box.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2014What a great way to learn about history.
I have never known much about Alexandra the great until I read these books on him.
Not written as a biography but as a story woven thru time and history.
To egg the most from the book you should read from the beginning of the serious.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2013The first two books of this trilogy I found I owed a great debt to Max Overton for telling this story with these brilliantly drawn characters. I would have continued to feel that way if I had not read the third book. This trilogy shouldn't have been stretched to three books when two would have been better.

4.0 out of 5 stars oh no, it is the end!!!!
Read all the books in the series and the only dissapointment is that the series can't go on with the much loved characters even though the clue is in the title "Scythian Trilogy"
the whole series makes you want to finish each book to see what happens but at the same time you want it to go on for a lot longer.
the whole series will be a re-read for me in about a year.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a let down
Having read the first 2 books and thoroughly enjoyed them, I was looking forward to the final chapter. Unfortunately for me the book became boring and lack luster. The story becomes way to political for my personal likes.
The first 2 books were in my opinion up there with Scarrow etc, but this was a let down

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Max Overton;s trilogy is a riveting read. The story line intertwined with history is brilliant. After reading the first book I just had to read the second and third to find out what happened next. More please Max.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting read...
Normally an avid reader of Roman novels..I thought I would give this trilogy a try. From the first book to this the last..the pages were packed either with intrigue or action throughout. Although set in an era where gods and goddesses were taken very seriously, I found this element a little tedious but I guess this held the story together in a strange way for me
