I highly recommend Second Chance
4.5 stars Second Chance by L.B. Dunbar this book grabbed my heart from the opening pages and did not let go. Second Chance as the cover and blurb suggest is a second chance romance about two people in the 40's; both these things peeked my interest and has me trying this new to me author. Well, I will for sure try another book from this author because I loved this one! True character development, deep emotions throughout and a world crafted that felt real. Mati and Denton are brought together after the death of her husband, Chris; as teenagers these three was best friends. I don't want to spoiler anything around this dynamic but I will say the way it unfolded makes the connections and feels bleed off the pages. Denton back in his home town after 27 years brings with it, hurt, whispers in this small town and secrets oh the secrets. Mati's sons and brothers and the glimpses of the past were masterfully woven into the story. In the end the happy Mati and Denton find feels so meant to be and the character development of some of the secondary characters was an added plus! I highly recommend Second Chance

    L.B. Dunbar’s Romance for the Over 40 series is the best thing that ever happened to the book world. All of the couples she writes about are full of love, hope and dreams that a special someone may be right around the corner, or right in front of them. While I was reading “Second Chance”, my emotions ran from happy and sad to hopeful and uncertain. Mati and Denton’s memories of the past were so powerful that it was hard to work through them and plan for the future. As with all of her books, L.B. writes with passion and her words are a gift that we will never forget.

    Denton never stopped loving Mati and she had been in his heart since the day he left. He will always remember how she calmed him down and took care of him after his father had beaten him. She was a beacon of light in his hours of darkness. The road trip they were going to take was their dream, but dreams don’t always come true. Denton never said goodbye and had not reached out to Mati after all these years. Their paths went in different directions at 18 but at 45, Mati and Denton collided at full speed on a bumpy road.

    Denton thought that he wanted and needed to continue modeling so he could receive accolades from the public. He realized that after reuniting with Mati, her love and acceptance was all he could ever want. His home in California was no longer calling to him because he was home, and it was wherever Mati wanted it to be. She was his future as well as the best part of his past.

    Losing your husband and father of your children is never easy. At the age of 44, Mati found herself trying to create a whole new life after the passing of her husband. With her children leading their own lives, Mati tries to find her new normal without the security of a marriage.     Mati grew up with the security of family and two amazing friends by her side. Denton and Chris were there for every pivotal moment in Mati’s life. Both Chris and Denton realized that the feelings for their friend were more than platonic.     L.B. Dunbar never disappoints me! Second Chance Is her latest book, and I loved it! The book starts out with a love letter from Chris to his wife Mati. There are three important people in this love story. Mati, Christopher and Denton. The three were childhood friends growing up in a small Georgia town. Mati and Denton were neighbors in a pretty affluent part of town , Chris lived in another part of town. They did everything together, and were always there for each other. Mati and Denton had a special relationship. Denton's father was the Mayor. He was also a mean drunk who 's favorite target was Denton. Denton would sneak out of his house after a beating and Mati was his safe place. As children, they would spend many a night in her bed huddled together, with Mati trying to soothe his mind and body. As time passes, and they become teens, the three remain friends, but things are changing. Both guys begin to have feelings for Mati. Mati and Chris end up as a couple, with Denton as the good friend. To celebrate their graduation, Mati and Denton planned a road trip, Chris wouldn't be going , because he needed to work. At the last minute, Denton told Mati he changed his mind and didn't want her to go. Mati was crushed, Denton left town and was gone for 27 years.
    L.B. is a master storyteller. I love that her characters aren't cookie cutter. They have lived, experienced life's ups and downs, and are stronger for it. This book was one of my favorites by her! Sexy silver foxes, and beautiful mature women who have lived life! A winning combination!

    Second chance we finally get to meet Denton Chance from Tommy and Hanks story.

    Denton Chris and Mati where childhood friends growing up, the three of them was inseparable but after graduation Denton leaves town to pursue his dreams to become a rockstar, 27 years pass before their paths meet again Denton returns to his home town not knowing what to expect can he face the women that he has loved all his life, all he want's is for her to see him just him, and she does all her family know that Denton is the one for her, Chris final wish is that she meets him again and she does lets just say sparks fly and they both realise they are meant for each other, LB has written a fantastic series with these over 40 books,I really have loved them all dive in and read them now you won't regret it I promise you.

    I actually don't think I've ever read a book with characters over the age of 40? It made me start to think if romance even happens after the age of 25/30. Romance does happen over 40 right? That's a thing, yeah?

    If not L.B. Dunbar definitely made it a thing, because this book was super hot and steamy between Mati and Denton. The teasing at the beginning of the story really created a great foundation for a slow burn and God was it a slow burn with it all starting from such a young age, but the sexual chemistry was so intense and gripping throughout. I loved the throwbacks from start to finish and how the story still brought Chris into the present, especially with how he shaped Mati.

    In all honesty, I don't think I like Chris. He was a bit of a douche-canoe for what he did to get Mati. Snakey. Not a fan. Shipping Mati and Denton all the way.

    I made the mistake of reading this and not realising it was part of a series, but honestly, I found it super easy to follow along with the storyline and it just makes me more intrigued to read the rest of the series. I also got the feeling that Gage Everly is from a spin-off? So I'm dying to read more of L.B. Dunbar's books just to quench my interest in the rest of these characters.
