Barbara Ebel is an award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author who sprinkles credible medicine into the background of her medical suspense novels. Since she is a physician and specialized in Anesthesiology, her operating room scenes shine. However, her vivid characters and plots take center stage.

She has penned two medical suspense series, a separate medical novel, and five children’s books about her therapy dog.

“Doctor Barbara’s” Dr. Annabel Tilson series includes six books (which can each stand alone), and is based on a female medical sleuth who promises exciting times on the wards as well as in her personal life. Two books in the series have won awards: Death Grip, the 4th book, won the 2018 NIEA award (National Indie Excellence Award), and Deadly Delusions won the 2017 Kindle Book Awards Semi-Finalist for thrillers.

Her first series, the Dr. Danny Tilson novels, takes place in Tennessee and is based on a neurosurgeon who has his hands full in the O.R. as well as in his personal life due to a female villainess, a favorite character of readers (who have a love-hate relationship with her). Dr. Danny’s third book, Collateral Circulation, was the 2015 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist for Medical Thrillers. Operation Neurosurgeon, the first book in the series, was the top finalist for best-selling medical mystery books in 2012. (Best Selling Books' blog announced on PR Buzz Press Release Wire, Chicago, IL).

Dr. Ebel lives in a natural wildlife corridor in Tennessee with her husband and dogs. She maintains an active, non-clinical role in medicine, and loves to hear from readers.

Secondary Impact is really good a combines a good medical story with the family dynamics that have hooked me in the Dr. Danny Tilson series. I was left hanging a bit and wished there was another book to continue the story line. I've read 12 of Dr. Ebel's books and I could be at the end of the line, for now.

The subject of this novel is very interesting because a few months ago, I watched a documentary on the ongoing effect of head injuries in sports such as football and basketball. The effects of inner brain trauma experienced has not been on the agenda of coaches who usually send the player back onto the field as quickly as possible. As a result, sportsmen's lives have been impacted in later years by ongoing brain damage which may manifest itself in memory loss and other impairment.

Barbara Ebel's neurosurgeon, Danny Tilson, is on the ball in this excellent medical plot. His daughter, Annabel's boyfriend, suffers what is seemingly a minor knock out during a basketball game. At first there doesn't appear to be any damage, but Danny tells the youth not to play basketball AT ALL. Annabel, who knows very well that her father has issued this edict, stands by while the boyfriend, disregarding the advice of her father, plays basketball with his mates and of course gets injured again. This rather silly girl then blames her father for what happens, but this is cleverly used to set up the climax of the plot.

I am hoping that Dr Ebel is working on the plot for another Danny Tilson story because this saga is far from over!

Secondary Impact, #4 in the series, was such easy reading, as I had binged read the first three. I was so familiar with the characters I felt as if I were in the middle of all the excitement. Could have read in one setting, as you want to know what is gonna happen next. The medical advancements Danny has made are fabulous, the medical terminology is understandable, for us lay people. Thank you Barbara.
will there be a 5th book, so much more to write about this family. Seriously would not recommend reading out of sequence, enjoy.
